Horrible Service and Food 7/5/2008

I went to Bayard's with a couple friends the other night and had a horrible experience. I usually know to expect mediocre food when I come here, but this time the service was even worse. Our waitress must have been quite angry that she had to work on 4th of July and was taking it out on everyone. One of the people at our table got sick from either the calamari or the wings. Granted, I plan never to return. Too many other great places to go in the West Village. I do not recommend this one. Pros: Beer Cons: Food and Service more

Excellent food and beer, poor service 11/20/2007

Went there for beers and dinner after high recommendations from friends. It did not disappoint. Bar was cozy and woody. I didn't even mind the TV's (I can't stand sports bars). Beer selection was on-target: ales, lagers, microbrews. Dinner was schockingly good: perfect preparations and sauces.\r \r The one issue I had was the bar staff. Near impossible to get their attention. Way too talkative. It almost felt like they were doing me the favor of serving me. Just not professional.\r \r I'll go there again...but not as often as I'd like to. Pros: food, beer, atmosphere Cons: bar service, TV's more

Perfect Neighborhood Hangout 9/18/2007

I've been to Bayard's a couple of times and I must say that it is the perfect neighborhood spot to hang, have a beer(from their large draft selection) and simply relax. Nice people who work ther. Oh yeah, good food too! more

I feel like Bayard's is a second home. I'm always greeted and treated like family!! 5/12/2007

I keep looking for something to dislike, and I can never find a reason. I've tried everything on the menu and have enjoyed every meal. \r \r This is the first revue I've ever written. I don't like crowded bars at all. I usually can find a quiet time at Bayard's, and when the place starts hopping ( usually on the weekends - Thurs - Sat), I can find a quiet corner there or just leave.\r \r One of my favorite menu items is the Irish Beef Stew. It has a ""down-home, comfort food"" quality that fills me up without over stuffing me. As summer approaches, I am going to have to find a new favorite, as this one is a winter dish.\r \r The bar replaces an old favorite of mine, namely, the Sazarak House. I never thought I'd be so quick to become a turn-coat on a favorite restaurant, but they aren't competing. As much as loved the Saz, these folks have re-invented this landmark location in their own vision. They haven't tried to copy or steal from the last place. I still miss the Sazarak House, but feel the scene in Bayard's Ale House is warmer and more comfortable/casual.\r \r If you are looking for a gastro pub with a flare for more than bar food, I would definitely recommend Bayard's Alehouse. \r \r I still hope to God that nobody reading this comes. The last thing I want to see is a line at my favorite place!!!!\r \r Peace & Good Eats,\r Craw\r \r more

Great Atmosphere! 3/14/2007

Bayard's is a great place to spend an evening. Always friendly folks at and behind the bar. Highly recommended! Pros: Great staff/owners! more

Food Sensation 2/21/2007

There are two new kids on the village block, Matthew and David -- West Village block that is -- and they couldn't be more welcomed. Located on the site of the former Sazerac House, at the corner of Charles and Hudson, these guys serve up the best soups, hamburgers, fries and libations to be had anywhere on this island called Manhattan. To die for is the blue cheese and bacon burger. The meat is fresh and high-grade (I asked David where he bought the meat and he replied, ""A butcher in Brooklyn""). Well if that sounds like the title of a sensational Broadway musical, be sure it is a, one and the same, sensation to the palate. I have yet to try the entrees or salads but I have overheard rave customer compliments and they are next on my list. Truly there is something here for everyone. I have had a number of the soups; they come out piping hot with thick slabs of fresh bread -- a meal in itself. Try the cheese and broccoli. There is a little secret for all of you who can't find a decent ice cream Sunday. The hot fudge is freshly made as is the whipped cream with a healthy overdose of fresh walnuts that will make you come sneaking back for more. Thanks gentlemen for opening your restaurant in my neck of the woods. I hope I can get a table when they start town-car-coming down from all parts of the Big Apple and beyond to savor your no-attitude service, friendly Irish welcome, and fantastic feast. Charles63 \r \r Pros: Best Burgers and Ice Cream Sunday more

Great place for brunch and evening drinks 2/13/2007

I have been to Bayards in the Village and the place is fantastic. The owners have got it just right with a super brunch menu for lazy mid mornings on the weekend and a good atmosphere in the evenings. The bar staff are second to none and there is a good selection of beer and wine. \r \r In short, well worth a visit for a good night out. Ask for Matty at the bar, good bloke. A great addition to the Village. Pros: staff, menu, location Cons: very few more

The French gave us the Statue of Liberty & The Irish Has delivers Bayards Ale House!!! 2/7/2007

This is the best addition to the West Village since the days of Stonewall! The Irish have now conqoured Hudson & Charles Street with the best of Food & Beer & Wine & overwhelming Irish Hospitality! Bayards has a wide range of selections on the food menu, draft beers, wine lists, and weekend brunch menu. Everything I have had there is supurb but I must point out that the rib app is devine and the chicken breast entree is most satisfying with its huge serving you will have for lunch the next day! The calamari was outstanding also.\r Mattie, Dave, Michael, & Niles bring in years of expierence to make this Irish Pub stand far and above any of its challengers. I have been there at noon for brunch and I have been there at 4:00am to close the joint at the bar and the warm 'welcome matt' is always out!\r You won't be disappointed! This is a Village MUST. Pros: Best value in the Village, Service, Hospitality, flat screen tv's Cons: Last Call! more
