Bahay Kubo Restaurant

I went there around 2:30 PM and was surprised to find people lining up. I got a little bit of everything and they all tasted really good. It tasted like it was home-made and It wasn't too greasy, unlike most other filipino fast food restaurants. but their halo-halo was definitely my favorite !! will definitely go back again ! This is about my experience pre-ordering food for take-out at Bahay Kubo. The place has limited and narrow parking spaces. Its interior is a little bit too dark even during daytime. The staff is very ""friendly"" but not honest enough to tell you that your order is two hours late. The first time I went to pick up an order, I had to wait for an hour. Because of my previous experience, I came in an hour late (at 3 pm) to pick up my food w/c was scheduled to be picked up at 2 pm. I don't know if they sold my food to other customers but I finally got my order at 4:30 pm, after they told me it was going to be ready in 15 minutes, oh wait, it's another 10 min., oh, 5 min more... The lumpia shanghai was good, BBQ was a little burned, pancit was bland, and forget about the embutido - it was a little sweet without any hard boiled eggs, sausage, or pickle relish. As I was reading georgeanda's review of Bahay Kubo. I noticed that it was posted 6 years ago. It left them a bad taste of a nice Filipino restaurant. I've been eating here for the past 2 years and for $ 5.99 (dinner or lunch is the same price) a plate combo (two course meal and rice) with some free soup, I belive they have given people in the area, substantial value for their money. Would I bring a hot date to impress, maybe not. This is a fast food (turo turo) restaurant and people just want to eat and leave maybe on their break from work or too lazy to cook. What I like about bahay kubo is , it brings me the ambiance of a Philippine traditional turo turo restaurant with varieties of food and knick knacks on the side such as turon (banana roll), kamote cue, delicacies etc. For the most part, I like cooking my own food but if people are in a hurry and would like to get their quick fix of a Filipino meal, I recommend this place and maybe they can even catch a show of wowowie while they eat their food. Bahay Kubo.... sigh....the food they serve is a disgrace to the Filipino Cuisine! Their food SUUUUCKS! I ordered ""paksiw na bangus"" and they served it cold. Who would like to eat cold paksiw? My boyfriend ordered beef that turned out to be TOO greasy . The place was dirty ...imagine... there were flies roaming around the restuarant when I was there! Parking SUUUUCKS! A friend from out of town was craving good filipino food. Dilemma...didn't want to drive out to Glendale on a Sunday, so looked for a restaurant within the city limits. Based on the previous reviewer's comments, went to Bahay Kubo and was sorely disappointed!!! I had the pork and chicken adobo and fried fish. Despite the grease (a little never hurts), the adobo did not have that nice vinegar twang and the fish was doused with patis, vinegar, banana sauce....whatever I could get my hands on to give it some flavor!! Moral of the story...a trip to Glendale's Max's or Barrio Fiesta unless anyone else can recommend a tastier LA filipino alternative?!?! Pros: cheap Cons: limited parking, not appetizing more
