I had an attorney assigned to my case, who I met once. Every motion was handled by a succession of new associates. One attorney was so nervous that s/he couldn't speak in front of the judge, requiring encouragement from the judge. My assigned attorney stated that I was a candidate for spousal support -- after all, I quit my job to take care for our kids while my ex-husband worked, traveled, and got an MBA. I did not get support. My ex drained our bank account -- no action on my attorney's part. My ex attempted to get an order of protection against me, which cost me thousands to defend. He was not granted an emergency order -- it was an attempt to keep me out of my childhood home (see "Sword or Shield"). No action on my attorney's part. My attorney did get a settlement where I received the mandated amount of my ex-husband's retirement funds. This attorney attempted to get me to pay in full for a discounted rate out of those funds. I received mandated child support, but I had to agree to a disasterous split custody arrangement after painful mediation. At the end of 11 years of marriage, I got my children half time (which is terrible for them), little in the way of martial assets, no cash to live on while I established a new household, no furniture from the marriage, no spousal support even though I made less than 50% of what my ex-husband made. No spousal support. I would have to say that service was mediocre. I got a divorce, but not my kids. As mom, it hurts to allow their father, who hates me, to raise my children half the time. It will cost me $$$$$ to change custody. I am very unhappy with the boiler-plate divorce decree, incorrect information regarding custody and fighting over holidays (unclear in the divorce decree) and caring for my children whilst my ex-husband goes on business trips.
