we had a great shopping experience at B&H Photo camera store - Good prices - great customer service - knowledgeable sales staff. Thanks more

NEVER AGAIN – STAY AWAY! 11/26/2010

Terrible service, liers, slow process and they have no idea what they have in the store. I got a camcorder at the store and after I got home I realized that they gave me a wrong camera. Same box - wrong camera. I didnt noticed trusting them that when I want S20 - they will give me S20 in the box. When you buy it at the store you dont see the product until you are walking out of the store. And I didnt check whats in the bag trusting that right product is there. They pretty much destroyed my Thanksgiving. I had to return camera through the mail and it took them more than a week to exchange and on top of that they never updated warranty even though I TOLD THEM to update it. Salesman had no idea what he was talking about, they are not educated about equipment. I had to tell him simple thing that camera DOES NOT take the XC cards. Unbelievable experience – NEVER AGAIN!!! more

b&h is fine just as long as everything is OK. i purchased a Nikon camera from them a few days ago. after taking a few shots i noticed ALL the images are really blurry. it was definitely some defect in the camera. from then on, all communication with b&h was a nightmare. will never buy anything from them again. more

taped up box, missing video camera 3/29/2009

Good: Large store... Many choices. Bad: My missing video camera .... Improvements: Replacement of the camera.Wont happen though.I waited more than 3 days to open the package....The box had been taped up. When i asked B and H about it, they said that they check the stock to be sure the item is in there... thats why it had been taped up... but the camera was gone. the booklet, chords and other stuff was there but no video camera.Very disappointed in B and H.. They made me feel like a criminal.I will never purchase from them... ever...700 bucks down the drain.. Other: PLEASE PLEASE please check that your items are actually in the box BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE STORE... otherwise.. it'll be impossible to prove that the store is responsible. They'll speak with you over the phone, gather information, and then that will be it.And make sure you open your package before the 3 days return policy.. or that'll be it... Im hoping who ever is stealing at the store is gone by now...or caught. I hope no one else goes through this.... more

Bait and Switch 1/2/2007

I had always admired B & H for their inventory and pricing, but after becoming better acquainted with more and different electronic and camera suppliers over the years I became less impressed. Not that that stopped me from doing business with them, I just learned that more and more of their stock is the end-of-the-year sales models. What drove me to stop doing business with them was with a recent web purchase that once delivered, was far from what they advertised. I spoke with two of their sales associates two separate times who claimed that they would fix the situation and ship the missing portion of my order. But after several weeks of not hearing back from them and their not delivering what they claimed, I called a third time. Only then was I told that they would not honor their previous claims and that I had the option to purchase the missing parts or return the piece for a refund. My overall impression of this company is that they are NOT interested in customer satisfaction but they'll work extra hard to project that image onto the buyer. When it comes down to it, they'll lie to your face if it makes them a dollar. I've completely lost trust with them and I'll never shop them again. more

great for cameras, and more 7/31/2006

If you need anything having to do with a camera, this is your place to buy. J and R is another great choice, but when it comes to cameras, it's hard to beat B & H. Sales staff are very friendly, although sometimes a wee bit condescending and rushed. They have a lot more than what you see down in storage and can call it up for you to see. My most negative experience was buying underwater camera housing for my husband's digital camera. The box looked a little tampered with, but the sales associate assured me it was new. When my husband opened his gift, there were sand particles all over it. They took it back, though, and gave us a new one. B&H also has an extensive line of camera filters (colors, fog, etc.) and studio lighting and tripods if you need it. Be sure to check their hours - they observe all Jewish holidays and close early on Fridays. more

B&H 6/18/2006

B&H is a very expensive but very good photo store. Whenever I go in there the salespeople are always friendly and helpful and they even have special ordered a couple of things for me on occasion. A good place to go for anyone interested in photography whether as a hobby or professionally. more

The Photography Source 6/2/2006

If you need photographic equipment in New York City, this is the place to go. From cameras to reflectors to slide scanners to every sort of paper you can imagine for your photo-quality printer they have it. The store is chaotic and runs on a somewhat bizarre system (note the green bins of goods being moved through the store overhead. They are closed for all Jewish holidays (this means they are closed Friday afternoons and Saturdays as well). But the prices are great. Do whatever research you can before you go -- the faster you can get in and out of this place the happier you'll be. more

If you're serious about photography, you already know about this place 5/30/2006

B&H is the largest and probably most efficient photo shop in the city. The shop offers what most amateurs, semi-pro, and professionals need and they usually have the best prices for most equipment. Its an open secret that the other camera shops in the city often base their prices for used and new equipment off of B&H's prices. I've also purchased music equipment here and found that while they don't necessarily have the inventory of Sam Ash or Guitar Center, their prices are neck and neck. On the downside, it can be daunting to shop here unless you know exactly what you want when you walk in. The sales staff can be either extremely helpful and knowledgeable or just generally friendly but clueless. For people interested in specialty equipment, they may or may not have what you need so be sure to check their excellent website before showing up. The used department is also directly linked up through the website so be sure to check the prices and stock there before making a trip out. Be aware that the shop is closed on all jewish holidays so don't count on them being open past 1 on friday afternoon or at all on saturday and keep an eye on their website for other closings. more

If they don't have it, you don't need it 5/14/2006

B & H, in every sense of the word, is huge. Their store, website, and catalog caters the photographer, whether amateur or professional. My husband's mother, who is an avid photographer made this one of her top spots to see in NYC, before hitting Rockefeller Center or the Statue of Liberty. It just simple has everything you could need, not just for photography, but for everything electronic. My personal experience has been that even if you not sure of what it is you need, their staff will patiently ask you questions and work with each other to ensure you walk out the door with the right product. Even though the selection and layout of the store is somewhat overwhelming, you are in good hands. While picking out my digital camera, the associate asked all kinds of questions in what I was looking for, enabling me to narrow down the choice to a camera that remains effective for me two years later. For that kind of service, I would continue to shop at this store for all my digital and electronic needs. more

B&H is great 4/9/2006

I thought I already wrote a review on B&H photo and video, but I can't find it. B&H is a fantastic store for all your photo needs. They cater to all kinds of photographers, starting at the person or even child who takes very unprofessional pictures, all the way to the most expensive professional photo and video equipment. They take time to help you find exactly what you need. Their stock includes a HUGE variety of cameras. Need a camera -- go to B and H (hey, I think that is the line from their ad *grin*) more

B&H Photo 4/1/2006

This company is huge - both in real life as well as on the internet. I have never been to the actual store but have shopped through their website several times. I've never been disappointed with the service or the product. I was able to get a lot of things I needed for my business within a reasonable amount of time and for a great price! more

THE place to go for electronics in NYC 3/30/2006

B and H photo is legendary in New York and it is because it is a veritable supermarket of things electronic. It's always very hectic inside, but you'll be sure to get the information you're seeking out because the people working there are knowledgable and the prices are reasonable. I got my digital camera there and I've been very happy with it. They send out a catalog once a year and it is like a phonebook! more

Need a camera ? Go to B & H 3/30/2006

I think that is what they say on their radio ad as well. Anyway, from the shopping I have done at B and H I have been very impressed. They are extremely knowledgeable about the equipment they have (and the stuff they don't have that is out on the market). They explain every feature to you if you ask, and there are no features that they can't show an example of or a demonstration. I went in with certain features, and prices in mind, and they didn't try to sell me anything I wasn't looking for. Just what I wanted, after spending a lot of time with me even though I wasn't buying anything huge. They are kind and. I would not suggest buying the warranty that they offer because the company that does that warranty doesn't cover if the camera fell, and being that usually that is the case it doesn't pay to spend the extra money. Overall I LOVE B and H and would continue shopping there whenever I need a camera more

Go just for the experience 3/17/2006

Even if you are not in the market for anything electronically related you should still go to B & H to have a look. It's massive and it has everything under the sun. When you are in the store look up and see the method of transportation the products take to get from one end of the store to another. They ride in boxes on rails. It is literally a highway for electronic products. more

Excellent 12/17/2005

This really is one of the best places to go for your photo needs or wants. My friend recommended this place instead of going to your Best Buy or other electronic chain stores. They have an amazing array of merchandise. Plenty of new cameras to select from and play with. Also they usually have most items well stocked. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They really live up to their reputation so 5 stars! more

B and H 12/5/2005

B & H is absolutely without a doubt the best place to shop for all your camera needs. They have a huge selection of equipment for all your photo needs and at good prices. They also sell video and computer equipment. If you are in the market for used items, they sell that also on the second floor. The place can get pretty busy but there isn't really a long wait because they are very efficent. The staff is also really knowledgable. more

A photo super store unlike any other - worth a visit 9/25/2005

Think of Disneyland for photo buffs and you might be on the right track. B&H is a block wide and stacked high with every new and exciting gadget, and gizmo known to man. And their prices ain't that bad - despite the glitz and more sales people than most camera stores have customers. One surprise, despite the size, you can get good service and good advice. This was not always true (years ago I heard a salesman tell a client - go to Ken Hansen and ask your questions, come here for the best price). But that has changed. My favorite guys are Stephan (a good photographer in his own right) and Carlos (Ferrari fan extroadinare). Both have knowledge that will guide you toward an intelligent purchase. Even if the store didn't have good prices, the advice from these gentlemen would be worth a premium price. You can buy from their web site but visiting the store is the only way to understand what the B&H juggernaut is all about. more

An Electronics Pamplona 9/14/2005

This amazing place, run by Hassidic Jews is surreal, with it frenzied but organized sales floor and overhead conveyor belts whizzing purchases to the dozen jaded cashiers. There's a reason: the selection, and prices, are the best in the city for cameras, videocams, digital cameras, lighting, tripods and much more. It's best to go in already knowing what you want or you might find yourself dangling from the conveyor belt. more
