Editorial review from Citysearch 2/19/2013

This place is great since its opened 24 hours. The truth is all it is free 24 hour wifi , the coffee isn't great. Pastries are good though , but not great . \r Today I had an unpleasant experience with the red head lady at progress ridge who with no tact said she was going to have to make our table available if we didn't buy anything a few minutes upon arriving. This made me upset because there was no class in the way she approached us .\r \r Little did she realize that our group of fifteen people do some work early in the morning Saturdays and Sundays for one hour and meet up at Ava's to do planing on territory routes for our volunteer works. That means a good amount of money every week end goes to this local coffee shop . But since this red haired lady was so rude we will be considering the new seasons across the street from now on .which I just discovered has stumptown coffee. I bet if it was the other young gals that usually Se us around would have recognized us as the usual s . more

I drove by your coffee shop in 6/3/2012

I drove by your coffee shop in Beaverton and decided to drop in for the first time. I parked next to the shop and got out of my car. I was immediately enveloped with cigar and cigarette smoke. It looked like I was in a forest fire as there was a blue haze over the whole property. There were two portly men parked at one of the tables right beside the entrance door smoking two huge cigars, apparently proud that they could blow as much cigar smoke as possible around the property. Not to be out done, the two women beside the portly guys were also blowing copious amounts of cigarette smoke as they talked loudly into their cell phones. There had to be an emergency as they were both very agitated. I then purchased my coffee from a very nice barista, but was delayed as the barista was also acting as a cashier. There was a rather long line behind me as she struggled to juggle two balls. I finally received my latte and then went into a small panic attack as suddenly I realized I would have to face the smoking congregation on my way out of the store to get to my car. I knew it was going to be yet another unpleasant journey as I could see the two portly men out of the window now blowing cigar smoke rings in a very artful fashion. I thought maybe I could do an end run around the women smoking cigarettes, but was disappointed when I realized that one of the women was now pacing frantically right in front the entrance while smoking a cigarette and shrieking into her cell phone. I gathered my courage and busted to the car trying to hold my breath all the way. I didn???t quite make it and had to take a deep breath as I unlocked my door. That???s how I???ll always remember the Ava Roasteria, a friendly place that smells like an ashtray filled with cigarette butts. Too bad, I???ll never go back, because there are plenty of other options to buy a latte without enduring second hand smoke. Oh ya, secondhand smoke is classified as a ???known human carcinogen???. more

Used to be nice, now forgettable. 6/17/2011

Ava's used to be a nice place. It had good decor, yummy pastries, patio seating with fire pit and water feature, friendly service and OPEN 24 HOURS. That last one is, I think, still operative and the one good feature. The last time I went the server was RUDE. She was snippy and snotty and was ordering people to bus their tables into those grotesque bins of dirty dishes they have lying about. Disgusting. How does someone serving food to people for a living become so arrogant? Ava's is in need of a remake as the decor has become old and littered. There are crumbs everywhere and rings and chips on the tabletops. You cannot sit down without getting a napkin to clean off the table and chair. The menu has stayed pretty much the same and is hit or miss. Order something today and it is very good. Order the exact same thing a week later and it is horrible. Ava's used to be a hip little coffee shop (as hip as anything ever gets in the god awful suburbs of Portland that is LOL) and now it resembles someone's tired old living room. Will someone else open up another 24 hour something in the god awful suburbs of Portland? I will be a happy paying customer of a nicer place. more

YAY 24 HOURS! 3/23/2010

You can tell they put in a lot of time making the outside as enjoyable as possible. It is cold a lot in Oregon and I love how they put heat lamps outside so smokers can stay warm in the winter. Pros: Chicken Rustica Sandwich, outside area, 24 hours Cons: Lots of Cops, price, and parking more

Ava is the pits 11/14/2009

Where do I begin? I like coffee that actually tastes like coffee. Ava has the weakest beaverages I have ever tasted. I had to go back and ask the barista if she really put espresso in it. Not to mention the lecture she gave my husband on how he should get his drink. We didn't ask for any suggestions. I was under the impression that when you are paying, you can have your drink the way you want it. Pros: They have a really nice location Cons: everything else more

nice place, love the patio 10/6/2009

The Americano was good. Pros: ambiance is quite nice Cons: service was so-so more

Terrible Service and Extremely Slow 6/28/2009

The products are average, sometimes above-average, however I can't say the same about the service. The employees are a bunch of young kids, probably their first jobs, and their inexperience shows. Most of them have unrefined skills in customer services, they are easily distracted, they can't handle too many customers, and they are overall very slow. They have no idea how to prioritize orders, can't communicate with one another, and are totally disorganized. Management obviously spent a significant amount of money on the real-estate. If they were smart, they'd budget for higher wages and spring for better people. Ultimately, the weak staff and unbearable wait-time aren't worth the cup of coffee. more

FIVE STARS 1/6/2009

I don't know what you people are talking about. Ava is a great cafe. The only negative things I have to say about the place is the lack of parking (what can they do, though? It's in a busy location on a small lot) and it's somewhat pricey. Pros: people, atmophere, coffee, food, the likelihood of meeting someone interesting to talk to Cons: a little pricey more

Terrible coffee, terrible customer service 7/16/2008

I've given this place three tries and have been extremely disappointed every time. I think the owners spent so much time and money making the place look gorgeous (it really is aesthetically pleasing) that they forgot they were in the restaurant business. I've never had a good cup of coffee here and they even screwed up my Chai. How hard is Chai? It's equal parts milk and Chai concentrate! Customer service here is non-existent. Pros: Good food Cons: Poor customer service, terrible coffee more

Nice coffee shop 6/19/2008

people can't say this is a religious place there is nothing around to feel like it, anyway the owner is muslim and even though there is nothing relate to I like it is nice place to hang out a little pricey nice location parking there is a lot of street parking is not a big deal. Pros: pastries Cons: parking more

Nice place to hang out, but a bit loud 4/18/2008

Whatever the other reviewer said about this being a Christian place, I saw no evidence of that at all. Met up with a friend here the other day, and as an atheist, I did not see anything that nearly evoked the thought that they ""might as well place a cross over the front door."" more

Like going to coffee & getting served by Church Mongers 10/16/2007

This is completely terrible. Should be a cafe and bar instead. Warning, this place is religious too, they might as well put a cross over the front door. If you go here, sit outside and bring your own coffee. more
