Editorial review from Citysearch 2/6/2014

This place looks sketchy, but it has solid burgers and onion rings. Also horchata which I appreciate. Don't expect anything fancy, but for the money you'll be happy. Crinkle cut fries if that's your thing too. more

Great late night fast food stop 6/25/2010

They stay open to 3am and always seem to be on point. This place is packed after 2pm so they are doing something right. Pros: Open Late, and Good Tasting Food more

I would recommend this place to all you friends. They have good food. The wokers will also treat you pretty well as well. Pros: good food, friendly staff more

FANTASTIC WEST HOLLYWOOD TREASURE 4/1/2009

Great location, great atmosphere, great service, and best of all GREAT food! I've been going to this local restaurant for years and it's never left me dissatisfied. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and my favorites have to be the bacon avocado cheeseburger, the pastrami burger, and their quesadillas (Chicken or steak is fine by me!). Really though, the quesadillas consist of fresh avocado slices, fresh pico de gallo and freshly chopped chicken. Their prices can be a bit steep but for the amount of food you're getting they're well suited. Seriously though, the quesadillas are about the size of my arm (fingers to elbow) and are PACKED with all the aforementioned fresh ingredients stated above. Really, just writing about it right now is making my mouth salivate. If you're in the area and you haven't tried this fantastic West Hollywood treasure yet, I implore you to go. It's a-must-eat! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

It's grown on me 1/30/2009

I've warmed up to this place considerably. I used to think it was overpriced, but soon realized that if you order the right thing, the food can be quite good. It is expensive, and if you're not careful you could spend more than $10 for glorified fast food, but many of the dishes are so large that you can easily split between two people and walk away full. The onion rings and fried zucchini are homemade, crisp, delicious, and also splittable between two people. Other hits on the menu are any of the burgers (usually run about 1/4 pound) , chicken quesadilla, french fries, chocolate shake, club sandwich, and bean burrito. However, Astro Burger has what I consider to be the BEST BREAKFAST you can get at a fast food restaurant. The breakfast burrito is legendary... at least a pound and a half of bacon, cheese, potatoes, eggs, and salsa. The egg muffin sandwiches are also stellar. The menu is quite large, and some items do suffer as a result. I was pretty unhappy with the pastrami sandwich which was greasy, fatty, and rubbery. I was also disappointed by the fried chicken dinner (scrawny chicken pieces with too much breading), the gyro (clearly factory produced and reheated in the restaurant), and the grilled chicken sandwich (too dry). Pros: BREAKFAST BURRITO, chicken quesadilla, onions rings, fried zuchinni, open late Cons: Can be expensive if not careful or splitting dishes. Gyro, pastrami, grilled chicken. more

Best LA late night diner 10/13/2008

Yummy food that is cheap!!!! Great outside patio where you can come with your entire crowd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Not a half bad burger place 6/17/2008

The venue, which looks like a mid-20th century diner, actually serves decent juicy burgers and succulent fries. There?s salads and chicken sandwiches on the menu for those looking for slightly lighter fare, but either way, come hungry. The food at this place will fill you up good! more

gross and sloppy food 5/9/2008

I have eaten many many times at Astros melrose location. I have come to the conclusion its just not good food. more

A vegetarian's dream. 4/25/2008

Astro Burger is, hands down, the best fast food restaurant I have ever been to. I like the Melrose and Gower location better than the Santa Monica one, though: it's less crowded, it's closer to my house, and they have a much bigger variety of vegetarian and Greek items. Take note that they only accept cash, but there is an ATM on the premises. And it's not a gourmet restaurant: it IS fast food. However, there are no combo meals and no dollar menu, so you'll likely pay a bit more than at your average burger drive-thru (around $10 per person for a burger, side and drink). Unlike In-n-Out, which does one thing well, and one thing only, Astroburger has just about anything you could ask for. As a vegetarian, my favorite item is the Gardenburger Delux, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and avocado, which is always fresh and ripe. Yes, they have soy cheese and mayo if you want it! The Gardenburger Greek, Gardenburger Santa Fe, veggie chicken fajita, and veggie ham and cheese are also amazing. The even have veggie chili cheese fries, which are out of this world! And don't even get me started on the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). They're some of the best I've had, period. Try this place! You won't be disappointed. Pros: huge selection of vegetarian and greek items, stuffed grape leaves Cons: cash only, and they could use some honey mustard. :-) more

GREAT FOOD, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE 3/18/2008

LISTEN TO A REGULAR, not single time visitors. I have been to Astro at all times of the day, and the food is consistently good. I have seen a vast variety of people, from celebrities to clubgoers to families...it is one of the most inviting places I have ever been to. But the crowd isn't what attracts me to Astro, the food is. Astro has some of the best quality fast food I have ever tasted. Their burgers and steak quesadillas (HUGE!) are amazing, their homemade ranch is to die for and it compliments their already GREAT onion rings and fried zucchini perfectly. My favorite item for years has been a close tie between the BACON AVOCADO CHEESEBURGER and the PASTRAMI BURGER. I often go with my vegeterian girlfriend and some of her vegetarian friends. Apparantly they're in love with the Gardenburgers almost as much as I am with their burgers. So if you're ever on Santa Monica blvd, make sure to stop by this grubbers paradise. Pros: Something for everyone; THEIR FOOD!!! Cons: Parking can be difficult during peak hours more

AVOID any night 3/3/2008

Skip this restaurant. We went there tonight and i ordered a cheeseburger with just ketchup and onions, my husband had hot dogs with Mustard. We got the food to go as we live around the corner from here. For starter i watched the cooks pick up the hot dogs off the grill with just his hands-no gloves or tongs. The cheeseburger had a minimum of ONE CUP of ketchup on it on each side. Clearly a joke taking place between cooks at this dive. The hot dogs were more than smothered in at least a cup of mustard each dog. Dont trust the cooks here, God knows what else they did with our food. I wasnt in on the joke and they figured we would be gone home with our food anyway, not be sitting at the restaurant so we would not see what they had done to our food. I wish i could put up a picture of what they did here. Then on our way out the guy at the register insisted we take a handful of ketchup- so he too was in on the game. Cook at home or watch everything that goes on behind the counter. Not worth your time. Pros: close by Cons: the food is bad more

Recommended when hungover 2/18/2008

We were really excited about going to Astroburger tonight, but weren't as excited when we left. Pros: Cheap, Quick, Onion Rings, Variety Cons: Flavor, Breading, Milkshakes, Skinny meat more

Fantastic Burger!!!!!!!!! 6/11/2007

These guys know how too make a burger, wow. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she was raving about the Gardenburger, try it. more

Wide Selection; Great Garden Burgers 11/17/2006

While I enjoyed the wide selection of food offered (from burgers to fried chicken to omelettes), I was a little disappointed in my burger. Don't get me wrong - it was good and the avocado was super fresh, but not anywhere near In-N-out burgers. For vegetarians, however, the selection and quality of the gardenburgers are quite good; i also enjoyed the fried zucchini (could use a lighter breading though). All in all, it's a good place to grab late night munchies. Pros: Gardenburgers; Variety in menu Cons: Place seemed a bit dirty more

Go to the other location! 11/9/2006

Forget this location. The Astro Burger at 5601 Melrose, LA CA 90038 is far superior to this one. The menu is much bigger and the serice much better. Especially if you are a vegetarian, the options available at the Melrose one are phenomenal. The meatless Chick'N Grill one of their most beloved burgers, is not even available at the Santa Monica location. more

An Astro Burger regular 5/27/2006

I hit Astro every weekend and they are truly the best when it comes to old fashioned, diner food. Having cut red meat out of my diet recently, I went from Astro's patty melt to their garden melt (ask for the flame grilled patty), and honestly cannot tell much of a difference. Their fried zucchini and onion rings are out of this world. Their milkshakes are great too. Sometimes they screw up what type of cheese I want on my garden melt, but no biggie. The chicken quesadillas and veggie dog are good too, but my fav. is by far the garden melt! Pros: great veggie menu, garden melt, onion ring/zucchini Cons: sometimes crowded more

Love The Cheeseburger 3/17/2006

I ordered a cheeseburger at Astro Burger on Santa Monica Blvd. yesterday. I liked it very much. And it only cost me about $3. I tend to favor charbroiled hamburgers. When it comes to hamburgers, the Astro Burger on Melrose and this one taste pretty much the same. Pros: Cheeseburger Cons: Unfriendly Cashier more

The Astro Burger (Santa Monica Blvd. Location) 2/28/2005

Don't listen to haters who base their overall rating on 1 bad experience. I have been a regular at astro on santa monica blvd for as long as i can remember. I have tried nearly everything on the menu...and there's something for everyone. Some of my favorites include the Double bacon avocado cheeseburger, pastrami melt, chili hotdog, tuna melt (add grilled onions and avocado), and the garden burger. A must for sides: fried zucchini, chili cheese fries, or onion rings. I know this place is open late and is great for after party, late night grubbing. Hands down, i think they've got some of the best food fast food around Pros: Friendly Service, Great People, Great Food Cons: Limited Parking more

classic fare done right 6/20/2003

i've tried time and again to duplicate their version of the veggie burger, to no avail. be prepared for sloppy yet delish classic fast food...burgers, hot dogs, burritos. carl's jr. has nothing on this place. oh, btw...i'd skip the melrose location. not only does the santa monica one seem somehow better in food quality, but there is much more foot traffic in this one, making for good people watching, and the service is friendlier. Pros: food!, good value Cons: greasy more

Good everytime... 6/9/2003

Everytime I have hit Astro Burger, I have been pleased with the quality of the food. Plus the food is made fresh and there is so much variety, you will never get tired of it. I highly recommend the vanilla shakes and onion rings. more
