what a disappointment! 10/1/2006

I was very disappointed. The food was not good at all; it was very plain and expensive for what you get. Our waiter was not able to recommend us a good wine. My ordered said it came with salad, they never gave me any salad even dough I asked about it. We asked that our food be spicy, it was so plain it had almost no flavor. I would not recommend it. more

Just Loved It!! 6/28/2006

Visited Ashiana last weekend on a saturday nIght, without reservations, but, were greeted very warmly by the hostess. The food was served piping hot and the waiter was friendly and helpful. The wine list was very extensinve, without being intimidating. The prices were also very reasonable on the wine list. The dinner was without any flaw, and the owner was such a lovely woman, who stopped by to check on us a couple of times. She actually sent us a bottle of champagne, when she realised we were celebrating my birthday. very impresive and generous!!\r We love Ashiana and are planning to stop by again this week. Pros: Good wine list, Traditional Menu, Good service!! more

Best Lunch Ever!!! 6/20/2006

I am a regular at Ashiana from the last 5 years, and I must say the Buffet keeps getting better every time I visit. The only hitch is that we eat too much!! The Shrimp Madras, and the fruit chaat were new additions, the last time Iwent in. I was entertaining business associates from France and England, and they were no strangers to Indian cuisine. they wholeheartedly agreed that this was thier best Indian meal in Houston. The owner Latika stopped by twice at our table and checked if we were ok. They were extremely busy, but the staff did not look rushed, and the service was good. The hot towels at the end of the meal was a nice touch!\r \r We went back for dinner that very evening, and the food was outstanding to say the least. the waiter serving us was very polite and recommended a great bottle of wine. Latika recognised us from lunch and greeted us like we were old friends. We later tried the best ever Chicken tikka Masala, Lamb Balti. The Pistachio Kulfi was great, and the hospitality and warmth with which we were treated was really appreciated. The restaurant looks better than ever before after thier new remodelling. My guests felt like they were home and were singing praises even the next day at work. We now plan to meet there as much as possible. Great place!! Good wine selection and fabulous service.I recommend it very highy. Pros: Food, ambience, Hospitality more

Very Impressed!! 4/2/2006

I visited Ashiana last weekend and was really impressed by the ambiance, service and my meal as well. As a British citizen in the US, I have looked far and wide for some good Indian curry, and let me inform all my fellow countrymen, I have found it in this beautiful restaurant. The Aloo Gobi, Onion Bhaji, Crab samosas, Butter Chicken, were terrific. My wife ordered the Lamb Vindaloo, and it was simply the best. They even have a great menu for the kids, complete with little colors and the works!! The waitstaff was pleasnant, and the owner checked on us a couple of times. Cant wait to visit again!!! Pros: Good Vindaloo, Great Ambiance more

delicious 2/19/2006

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and for a couple that knows how to cook well and are very picky of our food choice, we had an excellent time and the food was wonderful. Usually we would leave restaurants 10 mins after receiving our food and then go home to recook it, but not this time... we stayed and enjoyed our entire meal and only took home leftovers because we were stuffed! more

Simply the Best!! 10/19/2005

Love the Food, Ambience and Service. Its well worth the drive to West Houston to discover this Jewel!! Try the Shahi Tukra..Its mind blowing..Its like an Indian Tres Leches.. We met Latika , the owner, she personally guided us through the Menu, and was very hospitable. The restaurant looks fabulous after all the renovations. They even have a banquet facility now, and its huge. I hope they keep up the current quality and service, as they are doing so well and rightfully so!! Highly recommended by me and my colleagues. Pros: Good Menu, Excellent Wine List more

Chaat Platter!! 10/4/2005

I had a review sometime back in the Houston Chronicle on the Chaat Platter served at Ashiana, so when my colleagues at work (BP) decided to have a dinner there last week , I decided to order it. The owner Latika served it herself, and what a colorful and delicious plate it was!! We had so much fun with the Pani Puri.(hollow lentil dumplings with spiced chutneys and cumin sauces).learning to pop it in our mouth in one go..and I agree with Latika..its the Indian Tequila shot! We were 6 people in our group, and we had plenty of choices and there was plenty of food. We were served promptly and our server was friendly and attentive. The Mushroom Masala, Curried Crab Pepper, Chicken Tikka Masala were very very good. Good Evening!! Defintley Recommend it!! Pros: Delicious Food, Peaceful Ambience, Good service more

Best Indian in Houston 11/1/2003

My family and I have been visiting this place for years. We've sampled nearly all the Indian restaurants in Houston and this one is definitely the best. One of my favorite dishes is the tandoori vegetable appetizer. This is a good place to take vegetarians and meat eaters alike. My only complaint is the location - even for us living on the southwest side it's a bit of a drive, and it's rare that our friends want to make the long drive to meet us here. Pros: gourmet food, vegetarian options, ambiance Cons: location more

Pleasant staff & Good Food! 11/20/2002

I've been to several Indian restaurants in Houston and haven't found one as good as this. Attention to detail is par for the course here. Rack of Lamb and Lamb tenderloins are amazing. You can't go wrong with anything from the Tandoor. The only dishes I found that could do with a little improvement are the seafood items. Scallops in the seafood curry were a little rubbery indicating that they had been precooked? Lunch is a feast here with an awesome buffet. Pros: Great Service, Good Value, Good Food Cons: Overdone seafood dish more

I'll be back! 10/29/2002

I've never had a bad experience at Ashiana! The food is authentic and the service has always been superb. It doesnt take a food critic to realize that the chef uses the freshest ingredients available. Ive been there for both lunch and dinner. Ive never seen a first class lunch buffet like this! What a great way for the uninitiated to try a varied selection of ever changing dishes. My favorite is still the Chicken Tikka Masla (which is thankfully a staple item). Waiters come around with fresh roitan bread to compliment the meal. Dont forget to top off your meal with a serving of Kheer (traditional Indian rice pudding) and fresh fruit. Its always hard to decide what to have for dinner. Ive had both the Ashiana feast and the Tandoori feast. These are whole meals served for two or more people. Keep up the good work! Pros: Great Wine List, Friendly Service, Good Value Cons: I can't think of any! more
