Worst

-So I took a good friend out on a first date after reviewing a good 45+ restaurants over an 11 hour period (I know that sounds excessive but I'm paticular). -The ambience was ...

Fantastic food and Service 4/28/2004

My party enjoyed both excellent food and service during our recent pre-theatre visit. Our waiter Hugh was helpful and personnable without being intrusive. Aria's diverse menu satisfied every taste, from steak to chow mein. Our meal came with complementary nan and 'comfort foods' platter served with our meal. The creative and delicious desserts were nothing short of architectural. The atmosphere was pleasant: spacious seating plan, great music, pleasing aesthetics. The only slightest negative was a long wait for the valet to return the car (this is associated with the hotel, not the restaurant). I will highly recommend this to my friends and hope to go back soon! more

Excellent! 4/15/2004

I had wanted to try Aria for a couple of months, and just got around to it last Friday. My fiance and I were both a little sceptical due to some of the reviews Aria had been getting... I am happy to say that the reviews were right, but only in part... The food was EXCELLENT - from start to finish, we enjoyed every course. As for the service issue - well our experience was quite good. Our wine glasses were always full, there was good flow to the meal, and our server was knowledgeable. What I will mention is that it was not busy at all - so maybe this had something to do with it? Anyway, definitely give Aria a try. I think they are listening and really want to make themselves know as one of Chicago's premier restaurants. more

Fantastic Experience 2/16/2004

I am not one to complete surveys for great service received. However, I was so thoroughly impressed by Aria I am compelled to let others know about this unique restaurant. The atmosphere was striking, and the cuisine was diverse, delicious and presented with flair. The service was crisp and at the same time we never felt rushed. My compliments to the Chef and to the dedicated wait staff. I never would have though a restaurant within a hotel could be so incredible. We just so happened to be staying at the hotel for a weekend getaway and decided to try the restaurant. Pros: International Cuisine, Impeccable Service more

No Improvement in Service 2/13/2004

We have been to Aria several times since it opened. Each time the food has been great, but the service has not. Our most recent encounter with this restaurant never got past trying to make reservations. We called 3 times. The first 2 times we hung up after being left on hold for 5 minutes. The third time, when asked if we would hold and responded "no" - they hung up. The food is not worth the frustration of trying to get reservations, trying to get a waiter to take an order, trying to get your pre-dinner drinks delivered to the table BEFORE dinner, etc. etc. We've had better service at Denny's. more

Wow...Talk of the Town 9/23/2003

What a great place!! Had the most scruptuous dinner ever. The flatbreads in the aria bar are to die for. Tried the "small bits too" (Yummy!) I'll definitely be coming back. " Pros: Food inexpensive, Music, Atmosphere more

An exotic excursion 1/27/2003

This was an experience in ambience that was only enhanced by pallet arousing smells and tastes. From the nan-bread and dipping sauces to the renouned swordfish osso bucco to the strawberry peppercorn sorbet, I highly reccomend the experience. The food was great, the environment very personalized. Each table is placed so that it feels as though you are dining in your own personal restaurant. There is a great lounge attached as well. Pros: Inventive dishes, Fresh ingredients, Great ambience Cons: A bit pricey, Slow service, Minimal parking more

The best new restaurant in Chicago! 1/10/2003

Having recently heard of this restraunt I decided to try knowing nothing about it. It is culturally inspired food (not fusion) where the service is the best in the city (Jorge), offering an epicurial anthropological experience. The meal begins with amazing flatbread with 4 seperate dipping sauces. Eash plate is prepared beautifully. The server will give you insight into each dish if desired. Although in the Fairmont Hotel you wont even realize it. I recomend this place as somewhere you should try immediately, especially if you are looking for something different and exciting. Pros: Incredible Service, Interesting Food, Different Cons: None more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Dark wood and cream-colored accents lend warmth to the modern, serpentine dining room. Convex traffic mirrors and pewter water pitchers in the shape of frogs add whimsy, while the steady techno beat keeps things lively.

    The Food
The globetrotting menu features wildly ranging dishes, from Asian stir fry to prime rib to risotto. Hot Indian flatbreads served with flavorful spreads set the tone for the menu. Start with seared scallops layered with foie gras, or fall-off-the-bone duck confit, balanced with sweet port wine reduction. Winning entrees include tender lamb shank served with an aromatic tomato-eggplant relish. Barbecue duck chow mein--a hefty serving of curly noodles stir fried in a spicy-sweet sauce--is liberally laced with large chunks of duck and lobster claw meat. A trio of potatoes served various ways is presented to each table with entrees. Artful desserts are delicious.
