I know I have written a review about this business before, but cannot find the previous review to update.
When I first visited, I was upset about the long wait time, even with a scheduled appointment. I have, however, come to learn that waiting to see Dr. Jenkens is well worth a little extra time!
I have now been seeing Dr. Harvey Jenkens, at Aria Orthopedics, for about three months. There has been more progress made during these three months than there was for over six years of dealing with disabling back problems.
I had an unsuccsessful operation in January of this year, preformed by a neurosurgeon in Midwest City, one of only two who accept my insurance. Three days after they inserted rods and screws in my lower back, as they wheeled me out of the hospital, the wheelchair collapsed, with my back landing right on the back of it. I was still on a lot of medication, but I remember screaming in pain. My children were right there to see it, which made it that much worse. The hospital employees stuck me in the van and sent me home. I tried to follow up with the surgeon, who refused to do an MRI to see if any further damage was done. After finding out that I had complained about the wheelchair incident, I could not even get an appointment to see him. I was, simply, left to deal with it.
Finally, my primary care physician, after learning of the situation and how the hospital and surgeon were treating me in the aftermath, referred me to Dr. Jenkens, and orthopedic specialist. I was not hopeful, but decided that almost anyone would be better than what I had been dealing with.
On my first visit to Dr. Jenkens, he asked how everything was going, and I explained my situation. He, immediately, scheduled an MRI for the following week. On my next visit, he was very empathetic in explaining to me that the results showed more problems. I was very grateful for how kind he was, and his assurance that he would help me through the situation.
Dr. Jenkens is still working with me. He is trying to find a good laser surgeon to remove scar tissue that has built up from the first surgery. He knows that I will not return to my previous surgeon, but is understanding, and more than happy to work with me in finding someone else. He prescribes medication, not only to take care of the obvious pain, but also trying to reduce swelling and even help reduce the nerve pain.
The things that please me most about Dr. Jenkens are that he is very educated, and will take the time to sit and explain things to me. He lets me know what options are available, and cares about my questions and fears. He gets things done. For years, doctors didn't want to believe that my problems were as bad as they were, mainly because I was so young. Dr. Jenkens gets the tests done immediately, and takes my concerns seriously. I am just so thankful, after all the years of growing pain and growing anger towards doctors, that I was able to find Dr. Jenkens and am now able to believe that there are doctors out there who truly do care about their patients.
I have talked to many people since all of this began, and have met other patients of Dr. Jenkens. Every one of them speaks highly of him, both as a doctor and as a person.
Dr. Jenkens deals with many injuries and issues, not just back problems. If you are experiencing growing frustration with a medical issue, I would recommend you give him a call. It was well worth it for me!
