This place is really a wonderful place for all of the pet owners in the city. This is a rabbit hole that would give everything that your pet would want and need.

I will NEVER go back to this store. They are liars and crooks. I needed a hole cut in my tank and was shopping at this store and asked two diff employees about having the hole cut and both assured me that if the tank was broken while the hole was being drilled that the store would replace the tank....well guess what they broke my $300 tank and now they WON'T replace it and they were rude about it and hung up on us!!!! This is just absolutely ridiculous they are a bunch of liars! We will NEVER shop here again!!! BE CAREFUL WHEN DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!! more

Only reviewing the fish side as I have no recent experience with the seperated reptile side. Gorgeous store, but the curb appeal ends there. The fish are in a shared water loop and are not quarantined, which means if a single fish is sick, they all are exposed. If you do buy a saltwater fish there you better be sure to qt it very well. Every fish I have ever bought there has died within two weeks with the exception of a snowflake blenny that I still have to this day. In contrast the rest of my fish are mostly first time introductions for other sources and most are very old (clowns are 15 years old for example). The staff is hit or miss, but the store is not very friendly. Especially if you have children of any age other than a baby in a stroller. The coral selection is good, but very overpriced, and as far as I know the majority of the specimens are not locally aquacultured. Also watch out for the store water, when I purchased it tested at 100 TDS which is just a small bit lower than tap in Nashville. This was early in my reef tank experience so it is possible it is better now but I would test it with a TDS meter if you do buy it, or better yet just get a EBAY RO/DI unit and save the money. more

Knowledge and Service!!! 12/22/2010

The gentlemen that work in the Reptile room are extremely knowledgable and helpful. We drove 2 1/2 hours to visit and will definitely make the drive back!! Their prices are average and I believe you get what you pay for at their store. Beautiful displays and wonderful, knowlegable service... a wonderful experience. more

AMAZING!!!! 10/19/2010

This is by far the best fish and reptile store I have ever been in. The staff were amazing and knew what they were talking about. Every time I have been in they have been nothing but nice and helpful. If I needed something they did not have they would order it for me and have it in as soon as they could. I have to pass other stores to get to the Aquatic Critter, but would never thinking about buying anything from these other stores. This was the cleanest store I have ever been in. For anyone looking to learn about the hobby or anyone who is in the hobby, I would go no place other than the Aquatic Critter. Do not waste your time nor money going to any other store! more

OH HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED 9/7/2010

I am a FORMER regular customer of the aquatic critter ever since the late 90's when the reptile room was on the left. I say former due to the last few experiences there being not only bad but a little upsetting. In the past I bought fish from the critter and traded them back in for store credit when they got to big or they weren't getting along with the others, this seamed to be standard practice for many customers and they were always happy to do it, there was of course a % dropped when I brought them back "no complaints" but the last few times have been bad, they have given me nothing but attitude about trade ins and were only offering me about 20% and then this last time they basically told me to go screw or that they would GLADLY take back the fish for free. The critter was formerly a place run by guys that really where concerned for the well being of the fish and the satisfaction of the hobbyists that shopped there. But as it has grown "like most big company s" the great perso more

AMAZING AQUATIC STORE 12/17/2008

I think this is the best store within a 200 mile radius of nashville, I am very pleased to see such a sucess for Chris Begin....a dear friend of mine. I found everything i needed at reasonable prices and if there was something i was looking for he was glad to order it for me..which was very professional of him. His staff is very helpful and knowledgable..Chris sends them to shows out of the state to gather more and more information on fish , corals and up to date products. If i didnt mention, it was my pleasure to shop there. I will make this my #1 fish store to shop in nashville for everything I need to maintain my hobby, Thank You for being here for all the serious buyers!!!!!! Pros: great parking ..great staff more

Staff only pretend to be experts & don't seem to have time for customers 3/30/2008

The first time I went to this store I received great service and advice. Since then I have had lousy customer service and get lousy advice. I asked for two pregnant guppies and when I arrived home only one was pregnant and the other had just given birth. Both died within days. Then I went again to buy tetras on sale. Asked for 6, paid for 6, but only received 4. Three of those died within days. Got an attitude when I returned them even though the water check was fine. I purchased a filter system for my 50 gallon tank, but when I got home found out it was only for a 20 gallon tank--stupid me for listening to their "expert". I could have spent enough money to get attention I guess if I didn't have to spend so much money on gas returning their mistakes. I didn't get the feeling the staff really cares about the customers. Have found a new place to shop. Pros: Nice layout Cons: Terrible customer service and advice more

Amazing everything!!! 9/8/2007

The Aquatic Critter is amazing! They have a great selection of fresh and saltwater fish. Also excelent staff that know what they are talking about. It is one of the cleaniest pet stores in Nashville and other areas. You always get the same service no matter how much you are spending. And the staff only suggest equipment and other supplies they would use. It is an amazing store and I would never go anywhere else!!! Pros: Prices, Staff, and Selection Cons: NONE more

Good Selection 9/6/2006

They have a very broad selection of products and animals to choose from. There! That was the only positive thing that I can really come up with, other than a couple of the employees that really are helpful and try to help people learn the hobby, so they can make an informed purchasing decision. Whether or not these are the people who help you is pretty much like rolling dice. My advice is to stay away from the place on the weekends and try to go in when they aren't busy. And if the person helping you is condecending tell them you would like to look around some more and then find someone else. The other thing is that the service does seem to reflect the amount of money you are planning to spend- at least with some of the employees. I have spent over 2K these past couple of years too. Just one more thing, they carry some animals that are almost impossible to sustain in an aquarium and some which ARE impossible. These animals are doomed, and when LFSs order them it creates a market for them, which in turn encourages the folks who catch these animals. I'm not an animal rights activist by any stretch of the imagination, but as we learn more about the hobby and the animals we keep, and where they come from, it is evident that this is not very responsible. Pros: Large selection. Cons: High prices, can be poor service. more

Cool Fish store and more 11/17/2005

This has got to be one of the best fish/reptile stores that I have every seen. They have every kind of fish you could possibly imagine! They carry a vast array of tanks, bowls, and aquariums. They sell live food, and well as the traditional fish foods. If you like reptiles, then you have got to check out their reptile room! Tons of snakes, lizards, frogs, ect. One of the best features is the indoor pond w/ the live caimens! This store does not disappoint!!! more

Awesome reptile and fish store! 11/13/2005

This store is 1st class! It is huge and has more fish than you can imagine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their prices are very reasonable. My children love to come in and just look around, even when we don't need any supplies. One of the best parts is the reptile area, where they have lizards, snakes, frogs... One day we brought home a Beta that died overnight, and they replaced it for us the next day-no problem! This is a great store! more

Reptile room 8/3/2005

I have been shopping there for a few years now & highly reccomend the place , Travis & his co workers are extremely intelligent in the needs of thier animals & the prices can't be beat , they always have good stock on hand & if there is something in particular that you are looking for they can usually order it for you & have it there in a matter of days if not overnight , they are in my opinion the leaders in the world of Herpoculture here in Nashville , if you are thinking of purchasing a reptile as a pet then you should definately stop in & see them! I love this place and their staff!! I have spent well over $2k there in a period of 2 years. Very knowledgable staff and greet me by name when I come in. A+++ Pros: staff, animals, equipment more

Decent... 10/28/2004

Good selection, but horrible attitudes of employees, often very rude. I have shopped here for a while, and noticed they only seem to offer help when I am spending a decent sum of money at that time.
