My favorite Asian Market 11/14/2005

I love this Asian market due to the fact that it is the cleanest of all. The prices might be a little higher than the others but it’s all worth it for the comfort. The product selections are huge and many to choose from. The deli is fresh and always in stock. The clerks are friendly and efficient, never had to wait forever for check out! more

Great asian store 9/26/2005

This is one supermarket that carries asian products with a clean atmosphere. Although the prices are a slightly higher than other asian stores, but the selections they carry make it a one-stop shopping. The staff are friend and most important it has a hugh parking garage which is very scarce in the international district. You must also visit the Uwajimaya Village, it has many different deli counters and the food is wonderful. more

Every state should have a Uwajimaya 9/20/2005

I loooove Asian foods & gifts. Living in South Carolina, there's not much Asian influence out here---at least not as much as in Seattle. My daughter & her husband took me to Uwajimaya on my first trip out to Seattle and I know this is a functional store that locals go to, but I think it's a TERRIFIC 'tourist' destination as well. There are so many foods there and half of them don't have "english" labels so you don't know what the foods are---but I think that's half the fun. Everything is authentic and they have an entire aisle devoted just to soy sauce, and another devoted just to ramen noodles and rice. I can't go here and spend less than an hour and a half cruising the aisles. IN addition to being a grocery store, they have fresh fruits & veggies (many are very exotic and ones I"ve never seen before!), they have a seafood department with live fish, a bakery, fresh food to go, as well as a large area for housewares and decorative items. Also you get 1/2 hour free parking if you spend $5, and an hour if you spend $10! more

Uwajimaya 8/18/2005

Uwajimaya is the go-to spot for Asian groceries in the Seattle area. They've got a truly stunning selection (one aisle is devoted entirely to different kinds of rice). There's a wonderful sushi selection, including Hawaiian Spam musubu. I used to teach ESL, and Uwajimaya was a favourite of many of the Pacific Rim students who wanted a taste of home. The food court and Kinokinaya Books are both worth a visit in their own right. more

Asian groceries 8/17/2005

Uwajimaya is really the only grocery store downtown seattle. It has pretty much anything asian with a focus on Japanese imported grocery stuff. I lived in Japan and can say there is a decent selection of things from Japan. the pricing is spendy compared to safeway etc, but if your cooking asian food this is the place to go get your ingrediants. I must say though that the fresh veggies are not that expensive though. Staff is mostly young student types but friendly. more

Japanese Imports 7/3/2005

Uwajimaya is pretty amazing. It's a great grocery by any measure, and the incredible variety of Japanese food not commonly available (or not available in high enough quality) is wonderful. There's also a book store with good selection of imported books, and a gift shop, which also has some eclectic items. more

Great source of Japanese groceries 4/22/2005

Uwajimaya is the main place to go if you're looking for groceries to use in Japanese cooking. They have a good assortment of fresh produce, miso, nattou, and about everything else. They also carry other Asian food items, like Chinese, Korean and Indonesian groceries, and while these are good too, some of these items seem to be available cheaper at other Asian groceries in the area. For Japanese food, though, it's hard to think of anywhere that compares. more

Hard to find Asian foods 9/11/2004

If you are interested in Asian food, variety and hard to find foods, this is a good place to spend an hour or two. The seafood is remarkably fresh (the Talapia is live). From 20 pound bags of rice to a variety of oolongs and chestnuts roasting on the grill, they have it at Uwajimaya. This is at least among the best Asian food stores I have found in the U.S. (Update 08/16/06). While I was originally suspect of the many teas that are sold here, we have now sampled enough to realize that they actually carry some very good teas at modest prices. more

Very big, has everying 7/27/2004

In addition to being just a conglomeration of restaurants, shopping market, bookstores, apartments, etc. Uwajimaya is Seattle landmark. Kids go there on field trips. It is very impressive, I rate it 10! more
