I love that Alyson only uses the finest natural and organic products on the market. My hair is wavy and turns into a frizz ball if not treated correctly. She always gives me a versatile cut that's both sweet and sexy, relatively easy to manage & grows out nicely. When I am in LA, this where I go to get the type of quality that I am accustomed to, if I am in NYC the I use Salon AKS, but here on the west coast the salon has a wonderful vibe, with good service that can only show the quality of the staff, no putting on of aires. I appreciated the care and concern for my better half that she recieves. If she is happy the I am happy. This establishment keeps me happy, so much so that I took the time to write. I grew my hair out to donate, and when it was long enough, I shopped around for the right stylist for weeks. I chose Alyson because of the many positive reviews and the before/after pictures on her website. I have had many horrible salon experiences before and I was terrified of another one. I spoke to her on the phone before scheduling an appointment and she answered all of my questions professionally, calmly and patiently. She lived up to her reputation and beyond! The cut is amazing and she spends time talking to you and asking what you are looking for in a haircut/style. She cuts exactly what you want! She also uses products without sulfates (and gives a great scalp massage during the shampoo). In summary - she is fantastic - if you are nervous or hesitant, just give her a call and she will answer all of your questions. Enjoy your future fantastic haircut!! more

When it comes to hair, Alyson is an artist!!!!! I have never seen anyone cut hair with such attention to detail as Alyson does. Not only is the cut amazing, but it grows out beautifully too. the cut lasts and lasts. Alyson has been cutting my hair for about 3 years now and I will never ever go to anyone else again. I have naturally curly hair and had nothing but bad experiences at salons. I found Alyson online when I searched ""curly haircut los angeles"". Her haircuts are amazing. She is very detail oriented, takes the time to listen to you, and gosh, I just don't know of a better stylist! The first cut she gave me was a graduated bob. I didn't know curly-haired people could get such a cute bob! All the haircuts since then have been amazing. I just love her! She was so nice on the phone when I first called her, and is always very kind, professional. I recently even called her on advice about getting a Brazilian Blowout hair straightening. She took the time to give me advice on how I should look for a stylist, and even explained to me the technical aspects of the product/process. I have straight hair now after the Brazilian Blowout, and still don't want anyone else to cut my hair except Alyson. I am so thankful that I met Alyson - Love Love Love! more

Well, I?m now a reformed, hairdresser lover? I?ve been to see Alyson this week and I cannot express my gratitude enough for this superb artist. I?m a new arrival to LA and had several trepidations regarding my first trip to a local hairdresser, erroneously assuming I?d be subjected to a pretentious and vacuous environment, and leave feeling like I?d been robbed of a month?s grocery money. Pre-Alyson, I had pretty bad hair, and I?d been dreading the embarrassment of having to explain the strange, cost-cutting transformations it had been through (drug store hair colour is the devil). After a long phone conversation with Alyson and then a free, lengthy in-salon consultation (I like to repeat questions, but in slightly different ways), I decided to book with her for the big day. It just felt right and my vision became her vision, but an enhanced and more technical one. On the day, I turned up in my gym gear, flip flops and a nervous smile on my face and let Alyson work her magic. As alluded to above, my hair was like a treasure trove of colour and, in terms of the cut, had fallen victim to my student budget and a former stylist who didn?t speak much english. Were I to hazard a guess, I?d speculate that this ex stylist of mine failed school geometry. After my amazing cut, Alyson carefully laid out a mini-apothecary of natural hair-colours and even ran back for more when she uncovered hidden gems of colour deep within the thickets of hair. Each section received personal attention. In fact, she even got me to come back again so that she could make what was already perfect somehow even better. Her endurance level and patience are phenomenal. Alyson?s main concern was to not take the lengths of my hair lighter than she?d need to in order to get rid of the blackness and match it to a shade slightly lighter than my naturally-light brown roots (to get that sun-kissed look). Most salons would bleach the life out of hair in this situation and destroy it in the process. Not Alyson. Alyson reassured me throughout, showing more gentleness and patience that one would normally receive peri-operatively. I didn?t feel embarrassed or judged at all! Time with her has an almost ethereal feel to it; her spirituality, knowledge and dedication to her craft is awe-inspiring. As for the products she uses, you may have noticed, fellow converts, that she takes an armful of beautifully-labelled bottles over to the sink? These natural alternatives--along with her hair colours and styling products--are lovingly selected for us, her lucky few. Alyson, you are a sweetheart and a true artist. For the first time in years, my hair is a feature for me to enjoy; it has life and energy! My hair and husband thank you, as do I! more

Alyson gives a wonderful haircut. She considers your shape face, head shape and texture of hair into consideration for each person. For women, Alyson focuses on giving a cut, which will be pretty and soft, to compliment you. She has been cutting my husbands hair for years, and he will not go to anyone else. Alyson is incredibly nice, and there is not a phoniness or snobbiness to her, which is refreshing. She is very holistic and into using all natural products. Alyson, also, has been cutting hair for years, and experience is an important quality in a hairdresser. Pros: Can do many different style cuts very well. I have never written a review but my experience was such that I feel compelled to do so. I did a lot of research and based on all of the positive reviews, decided to try Alyson. We spoke at length prior to my appt. I came in with pictures of how I wanted my hair to be cut and discussed it and the color I wanted at length. Bottom line - the worst short haircut I have ever had. The original appointment ran almost 7 hours, the color was not what I had asked for and the cut was worse. To her credit, Alyson told me she would correct the color and I came in the following day and left happier with the color. I have short hair. You can not hide mistakes or a bad cut when your hairstyle is short. It will take me a good 8 weeks for parts of my hair to get long enough to be reshaped. Bottom line - approximately 10 hours over two days - lovely person, selectively listens and I would never recommend her for short hair cuts Pros: Lovely person, lovely salon Cons: hears but does not listen more

I have been going to Alyson for my cuts for more than five years and she has always done a fabulous job. I should first mention that she is extremely skilled at what she does. I have lived in LA all my life and have tried countless stylists. Alyson is the best that I have encountered. But on top of that, what really makes Alyson special is that she really takes the time to listen to what you want, and will also offer her expertise to ensure that you get the best cut. I'm really picky about my bangs, and Alyson is always very patient with me when I explain exactly what I want. People often tell me that they love my haircut, and I owe it all to Alyson! I usually do not write reviews, but my experience here influenced me to. Alyson is a great individual and very positive person to be around so i do feel awful about writing a bad review about her, but my rate is based on her work only! When i spoke to her and told her how i wanted my hair cut, she informed me about how she was talented and worked well with all hair types and knew exactly what i wanted. When i went into the salon, she was pointing out all of the defaults in my hair and i actually felt comfortable with her. When she started cutting i started getting nervous.... she was trying to promote her business and had even said that she was trying to get the bad reviews from citysearch off bc she was convinced they were by her enemies.. not cool... that scared me tad.. it had me ? the reviews and wondering if they were reliable.... well alyson had no clue how to style my hair.. i looked better walking in than what i did walking about.. i thought it was supposed to be the other way around.. especially is your paying $95! i felt like a bum when i left the salon, not to mention i looked like one.. my hair was styled sooo funky... she said her cuts were well known to grow out well... wrong!!! a month later my hair was going insane beacuse the layers were soooo messed up.. i could not stand my hair.. and what was worse was that she wiped me out of my haircut funds for the next 3 months... not cool.... i ended up having a friend who is a stylist fix my hair.. he was amazed at how damaged my hair was... and especially how bad the cut was... the layers were soo uneven... i was sooo disapointed with this experience.. and i even gave her the benefit of the doubt that the cut would grow out well when i walked out of the salon with my head down, feeling bad.... sorry to say, but this was by far the worst hair cut that i have ever had... One of my biggest fears in recently making the move from NYC to LA was finding a fabulous, trusted stylist with non-astronomical fees. First in Boston and, later, in New York City, I went to nationally-acclaimed colorists as well as to very skillful stylists who specialized in cutting hair. With fingers crossed, I found Alyson on CitySearch and went to her for both highlights and a cut. Happily, I am now thrilled to join the outpouring of much-deserved accolades for Alyson! My hair has honestly never looked better - shiny, healthy, and with great movement. I absolutely love it and have received innumerable compliments. Not only is Alyson a fabulous stylist (i.e., possessing skillful technique as well as artistry), but she is also an incredibly kind, caring, and life-affirming human being. Alyson Powell is a phenomenal colorist, she has impeccable attention to detail - resulting in the most natural blonde highlights I've ever had. I've seen Alyson for 9 months now, and at my last appointment in March she used eco-friendly green dye that left my hair as healthy as ever. There was no compromise in the quality of highlights, they're still as natural yet noticeable as ever - but I've also noticed a difference in the health and texture of my hair since. It doesn't feel colored, it feels as healthy as when I've gone without color of any kind for a year and a half. The products smelled great without all the chemicals highlights typically come with... and the end result is fantastic. It had been years since I allowed any curly hair specialist to cut my hair. I had been used to crying after haircuts even from some of the top stylists in town, but this was a completely new wonderful experience. Alyson is very meticulous and thorough! I have never been to a stylist that took the time and effort that she had with me. She made each strand perfect (my hair color is so natural)- it's unbelievable! I get stopped all the time by women whod ask me who I go to for my highlights. Alyson provided me with hands down the best hair cut experience of my life and I can't wait to go back! I came across Alyson's services while searching for a curly hair specialist and was impressed by her wonderful reviews. She gave me a thorough consultation and such an amazing cut that I could not believe that my hair could look so amazing. The shape of my hair is now so much more complementary to my face and personal style. My curls look so healthy, bouncy and happy under Alyson's care. She took her time to do her best work , while so many other hair stylists give a bad cut because they don't really know how to cut curly hair and rush through to get to the next patient.
