We love California Animal Hospital more

Dr. Fisher has been my vet for more than 10 years 7/10/2009

I hope you realize the comment listed under "" CONS"" is meant to be taken as a joke. I first met Dr. Fisher when I moved to California in 1998. He has treated all of my cats over the years and he saved the life of a Calico cat of mine (Lassie the Cat Yoga performing cat) who needed nuclear medicine treatments. Dr. Fisher very generously offered to give me a discount because he knew I was being treated for liver cancer and had to deal with all the financial burdens that come with a diagnosis of that type. I have come in with many ""homeless"" feral and stray cats over the years and he has always given me a discount when I had them neutered and vaccinated. One of his staff members who is no longer working there, spent close to a week sleeping in my apartment when I had to go out of state to Baltimore where I am from. I had an old Chocolate point Siamese cat (Kiwi of Camarillo) who needed special attention and a few others ... Truffles aka the Bat Pig, Lassie and the newest member of the group ... FuzzyMoto, a feral cat I took inside with me on Feb 20, 1998. I was afraid she would freeze to death if she stayed outdoors. On that day the city of Nashville, Tennessee had a massive snow storm. I moved there from Baltimore to research a book I was writing and FuzzyMoto used to sleep under the elevated foundation of the home next door to me. The day before, the owner boarded up the entrance that FuzzyMoto used. As for leaving town ... I was afraid to leave 15 year old Kiwi in the care of someone who would come in several times a day to feed her. I did not want to subject her to the stress of being incarcerated, uh boarded that is .. and I was able to go out of state knowing that she would be treated with the best of care. The staff behind the desk and the other vets have always treated me with kindness and respect and the parking lot attendent goes out of his way to say hello everytime I am there. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Fisher and I am fortunate that I live in a area where he is in practice. Pros: He saved my cats life Cons: I can't convince him to work 24 hours a day - 7 days a week more

Death City 5/17/2008

This place is shameful! We brought our cat in on an emergency basis. First thing that you should know is that is a training facility. The first ""doctor"" that we met with had graduated from school two weeks before. Although there are more senior vets around during the daytime, THEY ARE UNSUPERVISED AT NIGHT!!! I called on evening to check on our cat, and the doctor who answered the phone was very confused. She told me that she was alone, had only been there a couple of weeks, but that ""we all have to learn sometime"". It gets worse. After surgery we were called and told that our cat was dead. Two hours later they called back and said that they had made a mistake, and the cat was still alive. Things continued to get worse and worse, and we finally had our cat transferred to another hospital, where eventuality he died. At California Animal Hospital there were numerous errors, problems with communication, etc. We met the Medical Director some time later, and he was condescending, rude and arrogant. We have filed a grievance with the state medical board. This might have been a good facility at one time, but not anymore. We have talked to many other people who have had similar problems. more

dont go here! 10/22/2007

where to start.... first of all expect to spend close to 1K for poor service in an emergency. my dog could have been diagnosed for cancer if someone had bothered to call me back after a 1500K overnight stay .... dr fisher never called me back. i left over 7 msgs w/ his staff. i was told i was ""over reacting"". after a major surgery my dog was left ON THE FLOOR for over 3 days ... despite the fact i had brought his bed for him. the staff erroneously charged my credit card $998 TWICE and took over 2 months to reverse. dr fisher was great but seems to have become unhappy in recent years. my dog turned into a test animal. they gave him too many shots at one point and he had a severe allergic reaction. when i asked TLC and Laurel Pet (on SM blvd) if they would administer the shots if my dog were their patient- and i go the look of ""are you crazy""... seems Cal Animal shoudl never have given that many shots...esp not to an older dog. i was told i was lucky she didnt die.\r go somewhere else for your pet. there are plenty of places open 24 hrs where your animals health and happiness... and not your bank acct. ... is the primary focus. Pros: 24 hours, parking attendant Cons: vets, ignorant front desk staff, $$ more

Good vet 8/10/2007

Good vet with 24 hour service. I have been taking my cat here for a few years. They are busy and there can be a wait, but the vet takes their time and check up or diagnosis never feels like we are rushed in and out. The only time I've had to take my cat in on an emergency the doctor was reassuring and recommended using an over the counter med rather than a more expensive prescription.\r \r My cat is on a special diet - and I can always get it here if I call a few hours ahead.\r \r I would recommend them - Dr. Fisher is my vet.\r Pros: Good vet, 24 hour service, knowledgeable staff Cons: Parking can be tight - they have a lot attendant more

WARNING DO NOT GO HERE! 7/9/2007

I was ultimately disappointed with the service I received form this hospital for my dog. They are out to get you for every penny they can. They will recommend test on your pet strictly for the sake of taking your money. You will not see a very experienced vet and I waited forever to see a vet. There waiting room is small and smelly, and most of all go down the road two block to the VCA animal hospital as anyone would be better. DONT LET THEM SCARE YOU! They scare the heck out of you to make more money off unneeded test! Pros: open 24 hours, but there are o many others that are too! Cons: expensive test will be required but not needed. They are there to take your money, not help your animal. more
