Very nice yarn, variable service 4/15/2006

I've never met a yarn shop I didn't like, and Acorn St. is no exception. Their book section is great for browsing, and their samples are very inspiring. I never leave without buying something, even just a magazine or small set of needles (and sometimes a great deal more), but I've had quite a range of service--sometimes very friendly and chatty, occasionally rather chilly. Not sure what's up with that! I may get around to taking a lace knitting class there one of these days... more

Another decent yarn shop 3/12/2006

Good yarn shops seem to be a dime a dozen around here; then again, I don't spend a whole lot of time in any of them. But I haven't seen one yet that I didn't like, and Acorn Street is no exception. This local yarn shop (LYS) has a variety of beautiful yarn in a small space. Walking around inside felt like a treasure hunt. The prices are similar to those of other LYSs. more

Acorn Street Yarn Shop...guaranteed to make you domestic 3/1/2006

I end up at the Acorn Street Yarn Shop a few times a year for various craft projects I suddenly and haphazardly undertake. I go in for embroidery floss, fasteners, tools & the like - I'm no knitter. Therefore my impression that they have a boat load of yarn options available is probably obvious to some. Service has been nothing but cheery and sincere. In general I drive to this store over others because the minute I walk in the door I feel like I'm being hugged by an intimate group of older (than myself) women united in their enthusiasm for domestic crafts. They're knowledgable, friendly, and most of all passionate about their hobby. It's endearing and contagious. more

Superb selection, helpful staff. 9/8/2005

I have visited this store in many different contexts - from starting projects, to getting help, to getting my kids going with new projects. At every instance we have found pretty yarns in many different price ranges and received friendly, smart help from the staff. While the shop is smaller than some I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. If you are inclined toward claustrophobia go on a weekday and you will have more room and the staff to yourself! more

My favorite yarn shop 8/26/2005

I love this yarn shop! I love the selection, the help is professional, and I've gotten very good (and very patient) advice when I've asked questions about my projects. I especially like their punch card for frequent buyers (small fee to buy one, but they immediately punch that amount on the card). I've cashed in two in the past year and a half. I haven't taken any classes there yet, but I'd be surprised if the teachers were anything but patient and effective. more

Yarn as far as the eye can see 8/20/2005

Acorn Street is jam-packed with yarns from around the world. They carry a wide selection of fibers, and a wide selection of prices. Their classes are one of the best values in town (perhaps a fair trade for being tucked around a table with little room to breathe). Most importantly, Acorn Street has every pattern and pattern book you could want, and it is extremely likely that they will have exactly the yarn you need for the pattern you find. more

Average Yarn Shop 8/20/2005

This yarn shop carries wonderful yarns, but the crowded shop makes it a bit overwhelming. When there are number of people in the store, it is slightly difficult to maneuver around. They have a okay selection of instructional books and an impressive selection of knitting needles. I went to this yarn shop when I lived in the University area because it was convenient, but I prefer a couple of other shops in the greater Seattle area. more

good place, kinda expensive 8/18/2005

Acorn street has all sorts of yarn, embroidery thread, embrodery supplies& needles, knitting supplies, and crocheting supplies. they do birthday parties, and I find them great for a focused group of 8-12 year olds, especially girls, that aren't all that active. you get to knit (or maybe also crochet if you prefer, I don't know) some sort of craft, like a purse. they will teach you to cast on and knit if you do not know how. you probably won't finish the craft right there and then, but they will give you a pattern with clear instructions about how to finish it at home. i did a knitting party there, and it was tons of fun. the actual store has a huge selection of both normal and fun yarns, as well as patterns, but they are pretty expensive. more

cozy yarn shop with good customer service 7/6/2005

At Acorn, you find a wide array of beautiful yarns, unusual buttons, and clearly-written/illustrated patterns for everyone from the beginning to the advanced knitter. There is not too much space into which to move around, but fortunately the yarns are so accessible that you can plant yourself in an area and have elbow room to browse. The staff willingly offers insight and support for your projects. Acorn offers classes (call or check the website for specifics) and special deals. more
