Best

Frankly, this is the best brunch in Boston. The meals are tasty, large, and of good value. The service is exceptional - never is a glass of water left empty, never are you rushed ...

Worst

My first impression of Abe & Louie's was poor, as the host couldn't seem to find the reservation I had called in two days earlier, and curtly told me to stand in the lobby and wai...

Great Lunch Spot! 4/21/2007

My husband celebrated my 30th Birthday with a day in Boston, including Redsox-Yankee Game! We went to Abe & Louise's for lunch. We were seated immediately, even without a reservatio., We got a small table within arms length of of another party, which I guess you expect in Boston. We ordered the Abe & Louie Salad and the french onion soup for apps, both were execellent. For our main course we had the bone in filet, the 'special' blackened delmonico. Both were delisious, but the filet was Out of This World! Melted in your mouth! Overall the resturant & service lived up to the hype of this boston steakhouse:) Pros: Excellent Filet Cons: Tables a bit too close more

Pretty good.....but could be better 3/28/2007

This place certainly ranks among the top steakhouses in BOSTON...but if you've been around the country for business and had your fair share of business expense steaks you understand that they are pretty mediocre among the rest of the superpremium steakhouses. You can rattle off 10 steakhouses in NY alone that put this place in the minor leagues....BUT if you're in Boston you have limited options and it is certainly up to par with the other places in town. What they really need to improve on at this place is service. Many obnoxious waiters who are inattentive after they take the initial order as well as busboys who can't seem to do anything except clear dirty dishes from the table. If you ask them a question you get a classic ""deer in the headlights"" look. But the general perception among Bostonians is that this is THE place to go for steak. So if you have a client in the area - you can't lose by taking him here. Pros: Food, Decor, ""wow"" factor when entertaining locals Cons: Service more

Great dining experience 3/14/2007

In addition to the wonderful food; the staff is accomodating, pleasant and make the whole dining experience very enjoyable. more

Gone Down Hill! 2/13/2007

My husband and I shared our first date here 4 years ago and went back to relive that great night. However we were highly disappointed. The server was sweet but lacked the professionalism and polish expected when paying over 40 dollars for a steak. The courses were rushed, in fact our steaks came out before the appetizer was cleared -- leaving us holding our plates in the air! The bus boy who was an older man was annoying and tried clearing our plates ten times! I got the bone in filet and it was fatty and undercooked. The aspargus is better at any chain restaurant or my own kitchen. The dessert was medicore. The highlight was a charming and knowlegable sommelier. more

Great Food 2/8/2007

I've been here a few times and everytime the food is cooked perfectly. The filet is always perfect and make sure you order it with the melted cheddar(along with the steak will be a small serving bowl with melted cheddar he will pour on top of the steak for you). The only problem I have with Abe and Louie's is, being significantly younger than most of the crowd, they tend to throw you in a corner or perhaps not be as attentive to your table. I see waitiers be very attentive to other tables of the older patrons but me and my girlfriend are usually their last priority. Other than that- Highly Recommended Pros: Steak is incredible, Decor Cons: If you are younger, prepare to be slightly ignored more

Same as always, lovely! 12/8/2005

Walked in years ago shortly after their startup, still love it. Pricey yes, a bit loud, but the food.... it IS worth it! Try the seared ahi, amazing. Go Thursday and do try the Beef Wellington. Tomato and Great Hill Bleu Cheese salad: love it. This has been a favorite for years. Mario is an amazing server. I've NEVER been disappointed. Pros: food quality, service, cocktails Cons: crowds, a bit loud more

OVERPRICED 11/27/2005

Everthing ordered was delivered too quickly. Did not give me enough time between courses. more

Disapointed on the 4th of July 7/6/2005

Four of us planned on a excellent dinner and received an over-priced, average dinner. My wife's steak was under cooked & her Abe & Louie salad had yellow wilted lettuce. My porterhouse steak was ok, but not great. Two of us ordered a glass of Cab. and it was the smallest glass of wine I have ever seen. My sister-in-law ordered a Coke and it came in a 8 oz. bottle. I was asked two or more times by a server, what did I want on my baked potatoe. She was not paying attention. I did not find this to be an intimate dining experience. I found it to be over priced . I would not go back. Pros: good quality meat Cons: poor service more

I've had better 7/1/2005

I recently ""dined"" (using that term loosly) at A&L with 5 other people to celebrate my birthday, and I was not impressed at all. To start with, our waiter took over 5 minutes to come and greet us, and when he finally arrived I found him quite pushy and abrupt. When a friend and I each ordered a glass of wine he insisted that we get a bottle instead. we told him we did not want a bottle, just a glass. we did not see him again until he came to present us with the check, since he did not bring our food to us or clear any of our plates My steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium well, though the sides were not bad. Also I was very disappointed that he did nothing to acknowledge my birthday. So much for spending my special occassion with A&L. Pros: friendly bartenders more

Good Food, Ambience 6/6/2005

Without a reservation, my party of 4 was seated immediately on Saturday night about 7:40 (but I wouldn't recommend trying it!) The waiter took a while to find his way over, asked us if we wanted to order to which we replied that we wanted to order wine first. He then disappeared for a long time, returned to take our wine and dinner order simultaneously (al the wile we snaked on the yummy bread basket). Our apps arrived before the wine - which was very disappointing. The food was quite good and plentiful. Steaks were juicy and sides of masked potatoes and spinach were tasty. The swordfish steak was ENORMOUS as was the tuna steak. The chocolate souffle was delicious and not too rich. All in all, a positive experience but for the service which should have been 100% instead of just 50%. Pros: food, location, ambience Cons: service, service, service more

Much better than Capital Grille 5/10/2005

Best filet mignon in town. Cooked to perfection- juciy on the inside, crispy on the outside. The sauces are abit cold though. Love the decor! If you want to enjoy the ambiance without hurting your wallet, go for brunch on the weekends. Pros: JUICY STEAK more

screwy & louis 4/27/2005

I actually had some good food and steak was really good ,some nice touches like the high end tea,and spectacular steak sauces etc... but the weird waiter and no english busser made the service a little ""screwy"" however they did try and were nice and helpful.Overall this still might be better than most other steak places Pros: nice atmosphere, great food, nice staff Cons: feels small, pricey more

Made & Newbie's 1/4/2005

A&L has a little something for everyone. It's a good date spot, has an active bar scene, delicious food & great drinks & wines. Try the bleu cheese & walnut apple salad. This is definitely a power lunch/dinner place yet romantic & relaxing at the same time. The bar is where most of the action goes down. It's a compact area but you don't mind getting a little close and sharing fun convo & drinks with your neighbor. I won $500 on a bet one night. Paid in cash. Never know who you're going to meet.... Pros: bar, drinks, service more

Abe & Louie's 6/2/2004

I was given a gift certificate by my family for my wife's and I anniversary. A friend of the family swore by this place. I've been to many steak places and I would put this steak near the bottom. The ambience was very nice, clean, upscale. The service was impeccable. The food was alright. We each ordered the steak and though it was decent, I wasn't impressed. Especially for the price. Capital Grille was much better. Outback has a much better steak for much less. I can't comment on other menu items, maybe their better, however, if you're looking for a steak dinner I wouldn't waste your money. Not much taste. Not very tender (ordered medium rare) For the price and the reputation, I expected a steak that melts in your mouth and this wasn't it. Can't see me going back there. Pros: Service, Ambience, Valet Cons: , price more

best brunch 5/13/2004

excellent brunch for 2, service was out standing, great weekend wakeup... Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Excellent food, horrible service 1/23/2004

While the food was great, the rudeness of the service staff in rushing us (4 people, paying $78 pp!) was amazing! When a waiter asked ""Can I take the bread away?"" and was told ""Only if absolutely necessary"", she took it away anyway! She came twice in two (!) minutes trying to take a spinach plate away. She eventually just took the plate and went. The waiters literally ""stole"" our half-finished dinner plates from under our noses! They brought us a check with our desert! Then, they came twice to check of we have paid already before we even had a chance to finish the desert. Eventually, when we were counting the money, the waiter just grabbed the book with cash out of our hands! I'll never go to that place again and do not recommend others. The rude service ruined any pleasure we might had derived from excellent food. Pros: good food Cons: rude service, expensive, poor value more
