This place has it all! 12/31/2008

I love the lighting and atmospehere in this club. Its below ground so its all one floor. In the summer it gets a little hot but any venue will with enough body heat. Girls, its great if you have heels on, theres carpet inside =). The DJ plays great music all night. They even let my friends dance on tables, they're pretty carefree. Its a great place to make some memories in with your friends. I love this place. Pros: good music, great lighting, carpet, nice decor, good drink selection Cons: pricey drinks, nasty bartenders, more

NEVER BOOK FOR A PARTY 12/20/2008

!!!DO NOT TRUST THEIR PROMISES!!! !!!OVERBOOKED, WILL NOT GET IN DOOR!!! !!!WATERED DOWN DRINKS!!! !!!RUDE MANAGEMENT!!! Went on saturday night for friend's birthday. By midnight the place was certainly past legal capacity. My friend booked one of the backrooms over 3 weeks in advance. Granted, she was given an incredible deal, thanks to a promoter, buy 2 bottles get 3rd free. The Gray Goose we got was 100% certainly watered down, $250/watered down vodka, which was probably not even Gray Goose to begin with. The party started off alright, and the DJ was very good. Around 12:30 we were told to give up 1 of the 2 two tiny tables in the very tiny room that we already had squeezed a dozen ppl into. Another party now "demanded" the space to share with us and because they bought more bottles than us they suddenly became top priority. the situation was horribly handled by managment. Rather than apologize for the "misunderstanding" we were told that the club "NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY, AND THIS IS HOW THEY DO IT." In short it was lots of drama, and so much drama in fact that that other party that wanted the space got so bored waiting they gave on going to this place...which was good for us but the mood was already ruined. Pros: good music, nice space, popular Cons: too popular for no apparant reason and overbook parties and fill space to over capacity more

Dont believe the BS! 12/18/2008

Went there for drinks and dancing after dinner with a few of my girlfriends last night. Had an amazing time!!! Will definitely be returning!!! more

Would Never Return! 12/16/2008

My friends and I went there and purchased a bottle. We later on purchased second bottle and was told by the manager that we could keep our bottle and return whenever we prefer. 3 weeks later when we wanted to revisit, their story changed. So basically, we spent over $300 for a bottle of vodka that has an expiration date: they can only keep a bottle for 7 days! (that's their new version of story.) Worst place ever!! DO NOT go there, specially after few drinks. They can totally rub all the money you have! Pros: Thumbs down more

Best serviced lounge in the city. 12/7/2008

I just had my 25th birthday party at 49 Grove this past November 30th. I closed the space down just for my family and friends. It was amazing service. I had a little less then fifty people, and it was absolutely wonderful. Eric, the event director really took care of every single detail that I had requested. From the type of music the dj played to the food, to the look of the event, it was wonderful and he was wonderful. 49 Grove catered it for me, and the food was amazing! My guests are still raving about it. I had an opened bar, and usually the drinks at an open bar are watered down, not here, they were perfect. Every single detail was met to the core. Thanks Eric! Pros: Service, food, drinks, atmosphere Cons: none more

20% mandatory gratuity at 49 Grove? Bite me. 11/28/2008

gra?tu?ity , noun, plural gra?tu?ities : something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service ; especially : tip This definition of "gratuity" from Merriam-Webster is completely lost on the management / bar staff of 49 Grove in the West Village. Given voluntarily? Beyond obligation? Not at this poor excuse for a club if you run a tab with your credit card. "Total f*cking B.S." are the words that came out of my mouth when I closed out my bill and saw a 20% gratuity already added to my total. I'm used to seeing this in restaurants when you have a party of 6 or more, but never at a bar and never for a party of two and never for credit card customers only. Seriously, WTF? Yeah, I know -- some foreigners from Europe don't know that tipping is customary here. Some people get drunk and forget. Some people are just plain cheap. I hate cheap people, too, and it stinks that some bartenders get stiffed. But seriously, WTF? It comes with the territory. If you want steady income, get a day job. Most bartenders I know pull in a lot of coin, so if they're getting stiffed all the time at 49 Grove and need to pull out this b.s. policy, maybe it's because the service there is abysmal? The funny thing is, I'm not afraid to spend money, especially when it comes to booze and hot women. The bartender was cute, nice thingies, etc. and she served up a mean drink. I would've easily tipped her anywhere between 25% and 50% depending on how drunk I got, how nice she was, etc. But instead of having to work for her tip (too much to ask for, apparently), they build it into the tab. You lose, 49 Grove: for a kind word ("I like your shirt", "you have great hair"..whatever...even lie to me, I'll probably believe you), she could've doubled her tip. But she chose to go for the quick (and probably illegal since they don't warn you ahead of time) 20%. I won't be back and instead will be blowing my hard earned cash at some place that deserves it. Pros: none Cons: 20% MANDATORY gratuity more

Great Party 11/20/2008

I recently had a party at 49 Grove, my guests and I had a great time. The ambiance was cool, the drinks were strong, and the music was great. I never waited more than 2 minutes at the bar and the staff was attentive. I would definitely recommend this place for a party or a fun night out. more

POPPIN!!!! 11/15/2008

I'd go back!! 11/15/2008

I went to 49 Grove for the 1st time tonight. Hand's down great place, staff was very nice. I definetly recommend it and would go back. BTW, ladies the door man is hot!!! Pros: Doorman Cons: Took me a little bit to find it. more

Can not get any worse 10/29/2008

It was after 12 when I walked in there, and the place was nearly empty. Kids (or so they looked like) everywhere, not to mention that none of them were good looking. Bouncers are more strict than they need to be especially for a place like this. The interior design is like a maze, and not in a good way. "Secret" rooms that you don't even want to go into. Drinks are ridiculously exp. Went on a Sat, maybe that is why, but would never ever go back there again. more

worst place i've ever been to 10/26/2008

Went there for my best friends B-day. made reservations in advance for 5 bottles. expected great things from what ive heard but was greately disappointed. crowd was wack sloppy & fat people every where. worst experience was from the staff.... it was like they wanted us out of there or wanted us to buy more bottles. busboys would come & take away our drinks w/o asking us, so our bottle would finish fast. not only that but we had 3/4 of bottle left, they would come & empty it out in ice & take the bottle away. place was hot no AC, music sucked, low celing. place smelled cause of carpet through out the place. will never go back again. I have been to almost every lounge in the city & i would have to say this 1 was a huge disappointment for the amount of $ we dropped here. Pros: none...just being honest Cons: avoid this place no matter what you heard, unless u like disappointments more

great place to have a private party 10/6/2008

Last weekend I had a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend here. First thing to mention is that the promotional manager, Eric, was fantastic. He is accessible at all times and really personable. We had a large group (40-50ppl I think) and ran an open bar special w/ private room and cupcake tower for the birthday girl. Everyone had a really good time - the room was all to ourselves, drinks were poured strong and the music was good (from what I can remember). The only downside I can see is that this place is relatively small, but you can combat this by just checking it out before you book. Overall - great staff, strong drinks, and a fun place to have a private party. Pros: accommodative staff, strong drinks Cons: relatively small more

Best place to have a private party 10/5/2008

I just planned a private birthday party at 49 Grove this past weekend and had the best time. We had the place to ourselves for roughly 50 people along with an open bar for 2 hours. The staff was awesome, and more importantly the management (Aram & Eric) were easy to work with and very accomodating. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a private event at a hot space. Pros: Great staff, reasonable prices, awesome scene Cons: Can get a bit crowded later on in the evening more

BEST BACHELOR PARTY EVER!!!!!! 9/10/2008

I went to my best friend's bachelor party last Friday at 49 Grove and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever been to. We had our own private room with a HOT waitress and a room service buzzer! The bottle prices were on par with most of the clubs in NYC, and the manager Mas kept checking in to make sure we were taken care of. The only complaint I have is that the night ended too soon...we were NOT ready to leave by the time 4am rolled around. Pros: Private room, hot waitress, great music, vibe and atmosphere Cons: Low Ceilings more

Great envrionment, music, and service 9/9/2008

I organized a birthday party for this past Saturday and was more than satisfied with both the club and the service. I had about 75 people show up and they all got in without having to wait in line. The manager set me up with a great table location that was able to accomodate my party. Everyone was raving about the DJ--he was playing different rock/hip hop blends that went over really well. My waitress was assigned to just my party and she was attentive and sweet throughout the entire night. I have only been to 49 Grove once, but I would highly recommend it for any kind of party! more

AVOID UNLESS U WANA GET RIPPED OFF! 9/1/2008

This place is pretty and played good music last Saturday night. Those are the only good things to say about it. I have never paid so much for drinks before at a mediocre place. I bought 3 drinks and the bar tender, who was rude and inattentive, charged a 20% gratituty and the bill came out to over 51 dollars!! They weren't even strong drinks at all!!! The bouncers at the door acted like this was the place to be, yet when we went inside at 1130, it was totally empty! Totally not a place I would ever go again!!! Pros: good music after midnight Cons: rude bartenders, PRICEY and WATERED down drinks more

Way Way too Crappy to put up with Service like that (there is a reason no out of towners come here) 8/24/2008

Only good thing about this basement club is that it's not very popular with out of towners, but there is probably a reason for that. The bus boys and waitstaff are the rudest I have ever seen. I asked them very nicely to not take full drinks off the table when they were clearing. A minute later the Indian bus boy brought his other bus boy friend with him and openly started acting belligerent. Saying, "don't tell me how to do my job". Very calmly I said relax, you are only hurting your tip, then they called over the floor manager, another Indian guy, and without even saying a word to us he lifted the near empty bottle of Grey Goose off our table, as if to say, "get out of my club". This was our second bottle. We were a nice group of good looking girls and guys buying multiple bottles, and the Indian waitstaff somehow felt entitled to act up. It was outrageous. I honestly can't imagine what they thought they were doing. Suffice to say this place is way way too crappy to put up with service like that. Don't believe the hype about a mercedes waiting or VIP table service. This place hands down has the worst servers in Manhattan. I live a few blocks up from this place on Bleecker and there are tons of better places with much better DJs in the area. If it's an easy door with a short line you are after go to Highline Ballroom. You still avoid the B&T and get a much better experience. Pros: Cheaper bottles Cons: Horrendous Waitstaff, No Dance Floor, Dreary Basement Decor, Too Lax Door Policy more

Great club, even better owner!!!! 8/17/2008

I was on Bleecker street with my boyfriend getting some frozen yogurt from eskimix, which i have to add was delicious, when i met the owner of 49 grove. He took us to his club and we had an incredible time. The DJ played some really cool tunes, and their cockails kept me dancing to the ealry hours of the morning!!! Cant wait to go next saturday. more

Best none B&T club 8/14/2008

Was here on a Sat night. The place was full of great looking women and no B&T crowd. DJ Patrick Carroll was great mixing hip/hop, 80s and house and kept the party going til 4. Def one of the best sounding DJs. The place was packed, I recommend checking this place out, if you're sick of those 27th & 28th St B&T clubs. more

Highly recommmended for business owners with a reputation to uphold 7/20/2008
