Review content:
We've been shopping at Paul's for just over a decade. Mostly we buy wine, a few select spirits, and sometiimes champagne or proseco. The store is very conveniently located on upper Wisconsin Avenue and it offers parking for customers. So it makes it a bit easier to do the quick trip among errands on Saturday or even on Friday evening. Their selection of wines is reasonably good -- I wouldn't say great -- but it has all the types you'd expect and a price range in each to select from. My only pet peeve is that for some reason they have a limited selection of Vouvray's. This happens to be my spouse's favorite and there's only maybe three selections and the least expensive one is quite disappointing. Otherwise on cabernets, pinot noirs, merlots, its a pretty good range.
The staff is friendly and always welcoming. I suppose they'll give you good advice if you ask but they aren't really forthcoming. They DO offer free sign up for an online newsletter and have regular free tastings. But I haven't participated in those -- takes too much time on a hectic weekend.
All in all, they are convenient to my neighborhood, offer a reasonable selection and price. Worth zipping by. But for more choices and better advice, I'd hop over to Circle Liquor on Connecticut Ave.
