I am not sure how the program works now but I was there for over a year in 1983. I was just 16 and was not a drug addict. My mother thought I was a problem teen. Now I am a mother of 2 adult children. While I was there I never received 1 counseling session. I did bible study classes and choirs. I live among drug addicts off the streets and prostitutes. I watched them go through withdraws and was terrified. I was just a kid. I missed out on an education and when I left I had no tools to face the real world. Now over 30 years later I wonder how a parent could ever do this. I wonder why I was never counseled and all I learned was the bible. I am a christian and it was not from the fear from the staff. It was from the anger I had to move out of my heart toward my parents. This is not a place to stick your child in because they maybe a problem. This is for adult women that have no where else to go. I have stayed in touch with a childhood friend who was at the home a year later. She is an amazing Christian and she too agrees that she did not have the tools to face the world. I just pray that this place has started counseling women and not forcing memorization of bible verses. God is great but knowing you have been taught how to face the real world is so needed.
