As far as Mexican restaurants go this place was better than two stars, but not quite three star caliber. I'll put it this way. I've lived right around the corner from the Blue Moon Cafe for two years and have eaten there twice.
Not that the food is bad. It's above average, it's just that the place has no character.
The last time I was there my wife and a friend was with me. We walked in, weren't really greeted with a smile or eye contact, were sat without a word, chips and salsa were dropped off without a word, and the waiter came and took our order almost without a word. I don't know if everyone was sad about something that day or what, but it just seemed impersonal to a degree.
Now, if you don't care about that crap and your only concern is food...let me tell ya about it: I ordered the fajitas as per usual. They came out sizzling hot. The chicken looked and tasted really good. There were plenty of onions and green peppers on the skillet. What really caught my eye was a spice they had sprinkled on the meat. It looked like cinnamon, but tasted...different. I still to this day don't know what it was, but it was nice. It was a bit spicy and a bit salty, whatever it was. The tortillas were homemade, which is always a plus. The sour cream was good. The guacamole was actually above average. The tea glass stayed full, which will ALWAYS keep me happy.
The others had enchiladas. They said that they tasted pretty normal. Nothing to write home about, but we also didn't feel let down.
Tastes in food are certainly subjective. Try the place out and see what you think. At worst you'll be full and satisfied, but your socks won't be blown off.
