I am a teen and I have grown up about half an hour from Pisgah Forest. I just wanted to say that there are a lot of things up there that your kids would enjoy too. I grew up there, I know how kids can think hiking is boring. I did for a while. But I don't think I could live without my mountains now. I really took them for granted growing up. ANyways, If you have kids, I would suggest going to Sliding Rock(a big wall of rock in a river that you can go and slide down into a swimmign hole for a small fee), go tubing down the rivers at any of the river areas, go to lake lure and swim on its beach or visit Chimney Rock which is right next door to it. Pros: best scenery anywhere, tons of things to see, breathtaking views Cons: requiresAlittleDrive, far from gas, etc., NO OTHER CONS!!!
