Review content:
I purchased a used 2003 Toyota 4runner from this dealership in May of 2009. I dealt with a sales person named Peter. Richards Motor Cars sold me a vehicle that has an intermittent but severe problem starting the engine. The vehicle was sold for market price with no discounts and I was told that it had no known mechanical problems by the sales man, who I now know is a bold faced liar. The vehicle had this problem from day one. Unfortunately for me I was unable to bring this vehicle back to the dealership to have it repaired within their time frame because I and the vehicle had to leave town after the sale, which I had explained to the sales person because I had tried to expedite the process. When I started the vehicle on the lot the first time I looked at it we had to use a jump back, not really a big deal since the car had been sitting for extended period of time, or so I was told. The truth however is that the staff knew about the problem and did not disclose the problem to me while I was shopping their dealership. I asked them point blank if the vehicle had any problems and they lied to my face. There is no way they could not have known that this vehicle had this problem since they inspect these vehicle when they receive them in. Also, the 2nd time I test drove the car they insisted on bring it around to the other side of the lot for me and I saw the salesman, his name his Peter, go over to the car with a jump back. They never wanted to let me start the vehicle. And now I know why. I have since brought the car to Toyota to diagnose the problem and even Toyota can not figure it out. Toyota thinks it might be the ECU, which is a 1500.00 plus repair, but aren?t sure and don't really want to do the work because they are not comfortable guaranteeing that it will fix the problem. Richards Motor Cars were aware of this problem, since it occurs almost every time you start the vehicle, before, during, and after the sale. The people who work at that dealership cannot be trusted and I am comfortable in assuming that?s culture fostered by the business owners. Buy a car somewhere else unless you want to be ripped off because these guys are as crooked as they come. Pros: There are no pro's that outway the Cons Cons: Deceitful selling Practices, Vehicles not as Advertised
