Our family's lives have been forever enriched by the fabulous musical programs available at the Suzuki Institute. Children as young as 4 can begin with a "sing and play" class to familiarize themselves with music sounds, ryhthm, and music theory. These classes are fun games that are interactive and instructional, but children are joyfully engaged and really have no idea that they are learning!
The Institute has many supportive instructors in both piano and strings, who have a passion and patience for teaching children. Kids have two lessons each week, one individual and one group lesson, and several recitals a year. One of our boys had piano instruction for 6 years before moving on to trumpet, our other is in his 6th year of violin. This school does teach children to read music, although I understand that some strict advocates of the "Suzuki method" do not.
There are other organizations like the Music School of the NW, just off Aurora on about 90th, that also have children's music programs. They also might be a good resource for finding teachers in your area. Good for you for helping to bring music into your child's life!

You can find all kinds of fun educational science and math related activities, games, gadgets and challenging stuff at this store. Some of these include microscopes, gems, minerals, models of body parts and organs, plastic bones, magnet sets, games about DNA and tools for understanding electricity, lab equipment, miniature dinosaurs and chemistry sets.
But that's not all, there is a lot more, like posters of your favorite animal, puppets, geometrical shapes, books by Klutz, chocolate covered bugs, cheesy flavored grubs, and my newest favorite items; microbe stuffed dolls! Yes, you can now give your friend athletes foot (Trichophyton mentagrophytes), Giarda, Salmonella, a sore throat (Streptococcus) and more in the shape of the microbe but fuzzy, colorful and plush! How crazy and fun is that! http://www.scienceartandmore.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1185

If you are looking for a good Sports Camp consider Skyhawks. They have programs all over the city, in fact all over the nation. They typically team up with the area Boys and Girls Clubs, like the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, to bring you information and help you to register.
You can choose from various sports programs including soccer, baseball, basketball and football. Our kids have only participated in their soccer program, but found it to be positive, motivational and safe. They learned skills through games and other exercises then had scrimmages and other fun activities that built off of those skills. The program is run by professional coaches and supported by young college level athletes who are talented and committed to helping kids at all skill levels. They have partial or full day programs and the kids are given a ball and a t-shirt which they will use over and over again.

Yep, another happy Red Mill Burger fanatic! There's no need waiting for a blue ribbon review, there are plenty! But you will have to stand in line for the burger, particularly on a Friday night. The line moves quickly though, and there is ample seating outside which often spills over to the Starbucks next door. There is also no worries missing your order as they have a loud speaker that calls out your name when your foods ready. These burgers are good, they have fresh thick sliced red onion, fresh leaf lettuce and other yummy toppings to choose from. Try there spicy onion rings and their wonderful thick and creamy shakes too. Remember, no checks or credit cards, they are a cash only establishment and worth every penny.

John is a great drummer and has a wonderful music store in Wallingford just off 45th by the Post Office. His specialty is hand drumming. He, and the drum teachers he works with, are very encouraging and a delight to watch and listen to. They encourage many young people to play by paying them when they perform at gigs, however, in return he asks that they give a portion of their earnings to an organization or cause that is special to them. John's store has more drums and other percussion instruments than you can even imagine! These folks are a great resource for finding other drumming and musical groups in the community.

We loved Hotel Monaco! The hotel is very unique, every room is decorated in wonderful rich colors of reds, yellows , blues; fun colors that make you want to go home and paint your house! The entry way, hallways and rooms transport you to faraway places, the artwork is fantastic, the details and furnishings are fascinating. In the evenings they have wine in their huge relaxing lobby where you can sit and play a game of chess while you sip and enjoy the beginnings of what are sure to be a fun evening in Seattle. They are conveniently located on 4th Ave., near all the fun downtown places and excellent restaurants.

It had been some time since I had been to Racha Noodle & Thai Cuisine and it will probably be some time before I go back. The food was certainly plentiful and tasty, but I began to feel like I was in a huge Thai diner with an overpriced menu and overzealous wait staff. The price of an entrée is pushing $20, appetizers are pushing $10. The cosmopolitan, which I sent back for a remake, was $8. The waiter smiled so much it was it was just plain weird. Did he just want a really big tip to go with the menu prices?
OK, lesson learned, don't buy drinks like that in a Thai place and stick to small intimate Thai restaurants with smaller price tags and just as tasty food.
