If it weren’t for Dollywood, you’d never have heard of Pigeon Forge, TN, right? So at least there is a reason for Dollywood. Supposedly.
I went here with the family and we thought we were going to an Eastern-TN Disneyland. Ha. Not. Dollywood itself is kind of lame. It’s got the wild-west theme, which makes no sense because it’s in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I guess there’s not really appeal in portraying Appalachian life, so they went for the old-west hoe-down theme. I guess that’s okay if that’s your thing.
A lot of country singers and people singing in the street. Some rides, but a lot of them were closed when we went because it was “off season”---the park was open, but the rides weren’t. I hear they do a jam-up job at Christmastime and if you’re lucky, Dolly herself will even show up!! Now that’s a reason to go if I ever heard of one.
Bottom line: Go to Carowinds or Six Flags if you have other options. Save Dollywood for the times when you really, really have no theme-park options. Even then, I’d think the trampoline in the back yard is more fun than Dollywood…
