A Kurdish restaurant worth visiting again and again 9/9/2005

My husband and I along with my friends decided to check out this little restaurant attached to a convenience store. When we walked in, it was a medium sized room with six tables a counter at the back with a TV above it and a door to the kitchen in the back. The owner of the restaurant, a Kurdish man somewhere in his fifties, approached the table with a huge smile on his face. He handed us menus and Kurdish lemonade. He came back a few minutes later he came back and asked us in heavily accented English, if we knew what we'd like. Because we didn't know how to pronounce many of the items on the menu, we pointed out what we wanted. One of the things, he said, they weren't making that day, so if we would like, he would choose the food for us. We were treated with a feast like none we'd ever had before. The food kept coming and coming and was finally rounded out with the best baklava I've ever tasted and some hot tea. We walked out stuffed and only a few dollars lighter. We go about once a month and while the price has increased slightly, we often leave a 50% tip and still pay less than $15 per person. The owners know us and we've made it tradition that the man just bring us whatever he'd like us to try. more
