I treated myself to a few days at Canyon Ranch when I moved back to Cambridge from the Bay Area (i.e., the souless, vapid pit). For four days, I ate healthy, yet tasty, food, exercised vigorously and regularly, and was pampered with all sorts of massage and body care. It was heaven. Everything is tastefully understated, the staff friendly but not obsequious, and guests friendly but not without boundaries. I also love that gratuities are completely included, so no awkward worries about how much to tip. You can go to breakfast and lunch in your robe at any time; dinner requires clothing and an indication of seating time (there were three to choose from when I was last there). If you go by yourself, you can dine alone or at the "captain's table" with other guests who want to dine with other guests. There's hot apple cider and roaring fires during the colder months.
