Big problem with Noemi 1/25/2012

After my usual stylist moved out of the city, I wanted to try somewhere new. I decided to try Astor Place for the first time since it seems like it’s been around forever. They're local and cheap and so I figured why not? I walked right in off the street since appointments there are not necessary and I was sent to a hairdresser named Noemi who the guy up front recomended. Right away I explained to Noemi that I wanted to keep as much length of my long brown hair as possible and to just give me some more layers, she said, "I know exactly what to do with your hair," which apparently meant whatever she wanted. Within a few snips of her scissors she chopped several inches off my hair - much more than I asked for - and the front layers turned out so short that I couldn't even pull them into a low ponytail, which is essential for workouts. Also, the layers didn't blend in the front at all and the entire style looked very choppy and uneven. I was really shocked and upset when she was done with me. It was not what asked for at all, no one would want this! There was an obvious language barrier right from the start but I figured she knew enough English to follow some simple instructions. Obviously she didn't. That night I had to pull my hair up into a ponytail to workout, which is when I realized how bad the cut truly was. My hair was severely lopsided and even the thickness of it was very different on both sides. One whole section hung down at least 2" longer than the rest. It looked ridiculous. On a scale of 1 to 10, my haircut was a 2 at best. There are a few ingredients that even a decent stylist must have: Be a good listener, ask the proper questions and obviously have some skill to your profession. Oh yeah, a personality would help as well. Noemi has none of those, she is a "one and done" for me. more
