The Heinz History Center is a fantastic family-friendly museum and interpretative center that explores both the history of Pittsburgh and the history of southwestern Pennsylvania. The HHC, partnered with the Smithsonian Institution, uses everything from oral histories and first-hand accounts to displays and dioramas. There is a children's center with plenty of hands-on activities and a brand new sports complex that uses sports to help explain the history of the Steel City. Admission is a bit pricey, but it's worth it if you've got an entire day to spend here.
