My two year old is very active and I have been looking for the "perfect" mommy and me class for a few months now. If you live in Katy, you know that "gymnastics clubs" are a dime a dozen. I think there are five just on the stretch of Mason Road from I-10 to Westheimer Parkway. The place that I was most impressed with was Katy Kips.
Katy Kips is located in "old Katy" on Fifth Street. The location is not as close to my home as some of the others, but for me, it is worth the drive. The facility is an older building, but they've got great equipment (vault, uneven bars, parallel bars, balance beam, tumbling floor, and a training pit along with plenty of equipment for pre-schoolers) and it is well-maintained.
The thing that initially impressed me the most was the "hands on" approach taken by the management. I initially contacted them via e-mail to get information about their "mom & tot" classes and they invited me to come in and visit the facility and to participate in a class. The staff is all very friendly and the owners sit in on the classes and assist with the training, which I think is great. They have a reputation in the community as they have been in business for 28 years now and have a long list of accomplishments during that time period including many city and team titles.
Their prices are very reasonable when compared with other places that I visited. There is a $30 registration fee and then we pay $40/month for a weekly 45 minute class. They also provide discounts if you register more than one child. You can register at the facility, online, or over the phone.
They have a variety of classes to choose from including mom and tot classes (18 months - 2 1/2 years), classes for pre-schoolers (Mighty Mites - 3, Dyna Mites - 4/5, and Super Mites - 5/6), classes for older children (6.5-8 and 8 and up) and even classes for adults. The mom and tot and pre-school classes are co-ed and then the older classes are separated by gender ("Kippies" for girls and "Gladiators" for the boys). They offer quite a few classes both during the day and in the evenings which was another big "selling point" for me because I work full time during the day. You can access their entire schedule of classes online at: http://www.katykips.com/schedule.htm
The mom & tot class is very well organized. It is not easy to keep toddlers engaged for 45 minutes, but they do a great job! They have a variety of "rotations" that change from week to week, but which usually include "floor work" (learning to do various somersaults and head stands), "beam work" (on a small beam on the floor), and they even have them do modified activities on a small set of bars. Not only do the kids fine-tune their motor skills, but they also learn about things like colors and shapes in the process, and I have noticed that my daughter's ability to listen and follow directions has increased significantly in the short time we have been going. My daughter's favorite part of the class is at the end when they get to go to the "pit." The "pit" is basically a pit filled with foam blocks. They have to "climb" their way up an incline and then go through an obstacle course which usually involves climbing, crawling, and jumping. They use lots of praise and positive reinforcement (stamps). It has been a great experience!
Whether you're looking for a fun class for your toddler or a place to help your older child fine tune their gymnastics skills, Katy Kips is definitely worth checking out!

If you are a mom who stays home, or works only part time and would like a place for your child to go a few hours a week, this is the place. The director and teachers are wonderful. It is a safe, clean, friendly place for kids to learn and grow. The ages are 2-5.

The facility is clean, the staff is incredible in every way, and the idea is perfect for crazy lives! We just moved to this area and I have not been able to locate a good Mother's Day Out program. Well, now I don't have to! I can drop my kids in here on any day that suits me--it doesn't have to be the same day or even the same hours! I only pay for what I use as they aren't "holding" a spot for me. They have mini-preschool in the morning where the instructors involve the children in organized activities.
The flexibility of Itty Bitty City is priceless!

This high school is really big and has a fairly large population of students. It is located in one of the nicest areas of Houston, so the students are mostly all in the upper economic level. They are located in a great school district and tend to do well on mandated tests like TAKS. The size can be overwhelming, but once you get to know the teachers and students you'll really fall in love with this school.

This was the third daycare/preschool that we tried in approximately six months. The others looked good at first but I started seeing several things I didn't care for. My three children have been with the British Private Preschools (there are two in Katy both have the same owner, we go to the Katy Hockley cut off Rd location) for approximately six months now and love it! The staff is terrific and they are constant. Your children have the same care givers day in and out, no high turn over rate here. The facility is always spotless and the children are always clean and appear to be well taken care of. The facility has Preschool in the am where they pretty much follow KISD curriculum and then play time in the afternoon. The meals and snacks are planned out in advance and you know what your child will be eating everyday, which is a nutritious yummy meal. I always want to stay and eat if I'm there at meal time ;). I was always worried about my children being picked up from school or there being some type of confusion and them being misplaced. I am 99% (I'm a mom I have to worry some!) sure that my kids will be picked up from their school on time and if there is a concern or a mix up on the school's end the BPPS (British Private Preschools) will stay at the school until your child is located or if there is a question about how your child is suppose to get home that day they will take him or her back to the preschhool and contact you. For example one day the elementary school had my son in the car rider line. The BPPS went to pick him up and the school told the driver he was absent that day, the driver immediately telephoned the director who called me and asked if he was home today. I stated no and was alarmed of course that my son was MIA. The director notified the driver that he was suppose to be there at the elementary school and being picked up by BPPS. The driver notified the principal and made sure my son was located and placed on the BPPS bus. When this happened with one of the other day care centers they just left him and I found him on my door step 45 after the public school bus dropped him off! As a parent I'm sure you know a missing child is an extremely scary situation but I was reassured that my children will ALWAYS be a priority and for the past six months they have been. My children love their teachers and going to school, where as before I had to drag them.

We have been attending classes at Jungle Gym for a few years now. They are actually a Mommy and Me facility, not a gymnastics school. They are reasonable priced (a little cheaper than "Gymboree" classes), and the teacher is so enthusiastic. The programs really helped my daughter with her coordination and physical skills. And it taught my son to sit still for circle time and to pay attention to a leader (teacher). I highly recommend this program. Give it a try...the first class is free. And they also have open gym time. This is great for air conditioned play time during the hot summer months.

This is a great preschool that offers programs for ages 2 through kindergarten. The teachers and parents are very involved and it shows. Everyone has a real concern for the children here and all seem so friendly. My child loves her teacher and looks forward to attending every few days. It is really a good bargain too.

This is a really great elementary school. It has some of the best teachers in the Houston area I believe. It is located in a pretty high income area, and the students seem to be very well mannered. This school is dedicated to bringing up students who will succeed. They have a lot of really neat activities that go on throughout the year.

This is a nice school. The teachers seem to all have a good grasp on what is going on, as do the students. This school has done well on the state mandated tests, such as TAKS, and I believe they will continue to do well. All of the faculty have been friendly and helpful. I think this would be a great school to be a part of.

Too expensive. Called for customer support because some of the materials it was supposed to come with weren't in the box, and the lady I talked to was rude and wouldn't send replacements, and wouldn't accept a return.
