Mold on their bread 10/13/2010

twice in a month of 2010 i tried to get my favorite pan de coco bread but on some of the bags it had mold in it.... I was not happy as it was twice it happened and thought i would give it another chance. since then I go elsewhere for bread, also they dont have a good variety. the store is too warm and should be cooler to keep products fresh. the white small cakes i think called puto was also moldy... the store use to be a great place to buy filipino goods, but somehow seems to have gone downhill. someone needs to open a new one up and maintain it with fresh produce and breads.... also very expensive... more

Avoid the produce! 9/20/2006

I tried--believe me, I tried! But after years of trying to get reliably good produce from Everett Oriental Grocery, I finally gave it up after the produce manager tried to convince me that the half-rotten bag of chilies in my hand was good. Sorry, fella, I know rotten produce when I see it! Everett Oriental Market is primarily a Filipino market, but like most Asian markets, they offer a selection of foods beyond their own regional specialty. They do have some foods not readily available elsewhere locally, even my beloved Mekong, but really--don't plan to get anything fresh. You might get lucky; just don't rely on it! The location on Everett Mall Way can also be awkward and inconvenient, depending on the time of day, but if you time your visit well, you'll do fine. Some of the things I like to purchase there: coconut milk (often on sale), large packs of Shirakiku "hot mate" rice crackers, and wasabi peas. Also, if you're lucky, you'll find bean sprouts and Napa cabbage that are much nicer than those at the supermarket--just look them over carefully. I haven't had as much trouble with those--it's more the non-refrigerated produce such as chilies and Thai basil that I've had a lot of problems with. And between Mekong up closer to home and Uwajimaya about 15 minutes from my husband's workplace, Everett Oriental just isn't worth the drive to me. more

Everett Oriental Grocery & Gifts 6/30/2006

Mang Terry and Everett Oriental Grocery have been a a source of Filipino and Asian groceries in Snohomish County longer than I can remember. Everyone I know has grown up doing their shopping at Mang Terry's store. Where else can you pick up some Royal Tru Orange soda to go along with the bag of CHIPPY that you just have to have. Mang Terry is great for foods other than junk. He has fresh vegetables and a great frozen food selection. Be sure to stop by and pick up everything that you need!!! more
