Best

The best BBQ place in the town. Stuffs are really well behaved & the BBQ is simply awesome!!!

Worst

I made reservations for 6:00 for 4 adults/ 3 kids. Despite being on time and open tables, we waited 20 minutes. After being seated, no one, I mean NO ONE acknowledged us. No menu,...

Great Korean BBQ! 4/22/2012

wonderful staff 7/28/2011

Our service was great and the waiter was adorable. Ambiance was romantic and definitely recommended. For the music,,,I would recommend jazz or house and the people were cool. Portions were good. more

Spicy and Tasty 4/1/2011

This place rocks! I love the kimchee. I love the meat. it is spicy so get ready for some heat! more

High end Korean BBQ with a casual dining vibe!!! 12/21/2010

I've been to a few Korean BBQ places in Los Angeles, and this is definitely the best. The my favorite thing about Wharo is that is has a low key vibe with very high quality food. I may not be a foodie but I can tell the difference in the meat they use here. Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner! more

Best of best! 11/10/2009

if i were in LA, i must be come there! Pros: Korean BBQ more

Good Stuff! 4/7/2009

My first experience having Korean cuisine or Korean BBQ was at Wharo. It is the so good, the space is quaint, the service is wonderful...and overall good spot to have a company party or event. more

The Best 4/7/2009

This is my favorite Korean BBQ spot. eveything here is fresh and tasty. come here if its the last thing you do on this planet. you have to try it Pros: Amazing Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Delicious 1/6/2009

Wharo's is my favorite korean bbq on the westside! the meat and side dishes are fabulous. Its so good. I don't think there is a better k bbq in the area. Although i heard that there is a new spot called Gyenari in culver city that was delicious too. Might have to try it out. We'll see. more

Just okay... but there are very few Korean BBQ places in MDR 10/22/2008

I dined at Wharo last night with a couple buddies. There wasn't a wait to get seated but the place filled up pretty quickly after we sat down. The place seemed to be understaffed as we had to wave down our waiter to take our order and our empty meat trays were never picked up until after the meal. I found the quality of food to be good but not exceptional. Also, I think the dishes were a bit overpriced considering the quantity you're getting. There are a couple things that distinguish this place from any Korean BBQ joint in K-Town or Gardena: the entire wait staff speaks perfect English, there is a good wine selection (for a Korean BBQ place), and the dessert selection is more of an American mix. Overall, we found the meal to be ""okay"". If you're craving Korean food and you're too lazy to drive all the way to K-Town, this place will suffice. Pros: The food was somewhere btwn ""Acceptable"" and ""Good"" Cons: Poor value. Poor service... but servers may have been short-staffed. more

Editorial review from GrubHub 1/22/2008

ten minutes earlier than they said. the food was yummy, the beef in the soup was a little chewy though... came with some extra stuff like kimchi, brokkoli, tofu.... i will order again :) more

Food is great.Service is great..But the Prices and Portions are not inline with each other. 1/20/2008

I been going to this place for a long while now..I find the menu is $$$$ and the portions are getting less and less...I will still go cause I enjoy it....They need to get back to orignal thought feed ya make it good and service ya well.. Pros: Great taste Cons: TO $$$$$$$$$$$$$ more

terrible service 12/17/2007

Terrible service, beginning with the phone! I called to place an order and they left me on hold for 6 minutes. Continued to call back and no one ever seems to pick up the phone at this place. This is the third occasion in which I have tried to reach the restaurant via phone and can't get through, and have been mistreated when they do actually pick up the phone during business hours. Unreliable and UNACCEPTABLE! more

Yum to the $50 special for 2 11/8/2007

I went on a date here and ordered the $50 special for 2 and also an order of calamari. The server was wonderful, he brought us all these side dishes to go with the 2 different meats that came with the meal. You also get 2 miso soups (i've had better) and a big salad with a peanut miso ish dressing. The calamari was not fried, it was raw as well, and you place it on the grill in front of you with your marinated meats. You also get soy paper and sliced beets and lettuce to wrap your meats and sides in. The server came around quite frequently to help with the cooking. He was very attentive and friendly. I left feeling very stuffed for a $70 meal for 2, no wine. I would definately go back. Pros: Service, marinated meats, special for 2 Cons: miso soups pretty salty more

Americanized Korean BBQ 8/9/2007

The restaurant is very nice inside and the food is very high quality, but the meat does not have that much flavor. I like Korean restaurants where you leave the restaurant smelling like kalbi and if you breathe on someone they know you just had garlic. If you like your food more mild, this might be the restaurant for you. more

4 stars for lunch specials, nice decor, and friendly staff. 7/30/2007

Their lunch special comes in a good portion and is reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly. Definitely a good place to have lunch. more

So not authentic 7/15/2007

I'm pretty positive all the 5-star reviewers could not be korean people. This was not true Korean bbq. Whoever thinks it is, I feel sorry for them. The food was overpriced, the amount was tiny and tasted really processed. There was this Japanese/fusion feel -- by that I mean the portions were tiny with colorful litte inedible decorations on the plate. I ordered a full meal and left hungry. That has never happened to me at a Korean bbq restaurant. Therefore, I must conclude this was not true Korean bbq. Unfortunately, there's not much choices for Korean food on the westside. You just have to make that trip to k-town to get something decent. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Small portions/overpriced more

Great Korean BBQ in West LA 5/15/2007

A few months ago we went to K-town for my first Korean BBQ experience. It was unusual, but good. My only complaint...where are the veggies? Well Wharo has it all...veggies, Korean BBQ, amazing service, and IN W. LA!! You will, of course, pay for this greatness...about $40 pp w/out alcohol, but worth it! I suggest getting the $50 meal deal for two. The salad is wonderful and the soup is FANTASTIC...The meat and seafood is really fresh and marinated perfectly. The meal deal ends with the best mochi (never been a mochi fan until Wharo)...I'd come for the mochi alone! If you are going on a Friday or Saturday night be sure to make a reservation...anymore than four people in your party can be a pain....The best is only two or three. Pros: The food is wonderful, the staff are very nice Cons: Parking is tough, and the prices are a bit high more

Decent food, not a bad alternative 4/8/2007

Pros: good service, clean and comfortable sitting, verity of choices, No MSG added into the food; situated in the Westside..\r Cons: Small portion makes it pricy. Not as authentic as the ones in K-town. \r \r This is a decent place for a decent Korea food. BBQ, Kiamichi, Beef soup, rice all are on the menu to choose. Side dishes are served with every BBQ order. Korea drinks offered for a refresh taste. \r \r I think the flavor of the BBQ is not as impressive as I had elsewhere (K-town, Fullerton, LA, etc). I did not like the dipping sauce. But the meat is fresh. The minimum order for BBQ is about $25 --$35 after tax (the portion is small), cocktail drinks are about $8. You can easily to spend $50 for one person if you order BBQ entry with a drink. Spending $50 bucks for a good meal is not a big deal but the thing is that you can get a lot more for the same money elsewhere and maybe more flavor. Considering this is the Westside, if you craving for Korea food but hesitated to drive far, it is not a bad alternative. I still go to K-town whenever I can?the side dishes just taste better there... more

Good Korean Food on the Westside 3/20/2007

My family and I have found our Korean dining spot on the Westside! We'd typically go to K-town to eat real Korean food, but Wharo has enough good, authentic dishes and lots of different liquors to satisfy our needs. I'm Korean, I know my Korean food. It's easy to eat there with a one-year old if you get there early enough. It tends to get busy later on, so we go around 5:30 and have never had a problem with seating. The service has been good on each visit, so no complaints there and I'm a STICKLER for service. You could have the best food in the universe, but if I get bad service, I won't spend my hard earned dollars at your place for sure. Never had a problem here. Just good service. Reviewers complain about the portion size, but really, the portions are appropriate. Prices could be better based on the portion size, but very comparable to Gyu-Kaku (Japanese/Korean fusion) without the hassle. Decor is nice. It can get very loud once filled. Parking could be better, but that general area is hectic and not very parking friendly anyway. If you're carnivorous, a must is the Kobe beef. Very, very good! Good quality of food, service and ambiance all around. Pros: Food, service Cons: Parking, prices more

Authentic Korean BBQ, helpful wait staff, and convenient location 3/1/2007

We've been to Wharo twice and each time were seated immediately. (Of course, we made reservations earlier in the week.) We had both kalbi and salmon, and various side dishes -- all were delicious and sufficient. The classed up interior wasn't a decisive feature for us: more important was an easy dining experience (even with a child along). Wharo lives up to our expectations. Pros: Korean on the Westside! Low key location, fairly close to the beach if you want to go there first. Cons: Parking is usually accessible, but drive early. Lincoln Blvd. can be tough. more
