Poorly Managed 7/31/2013

I would not recommend this daycare! My child went there from the beginning, until I was forced to pull him out due to unsupervision and a possible neglect incident of my child, along with the lack of efforts to report it to me, the parent. I was NEVER informed of the incident, but found out on my own (12 days after it occured) by questioning the staff due to suspicious behavior towards me. When I asked the "manager", it was impossible to get a straight answer, stories changed, unsure of facts, never could find me the report that was filed with the licensing dept, etc. The whole incident was very shady and treated VERY unprofessionally. \r \r I do feel that during the time my child he was there, he was taken very good care of. He bonded with a couple of the ladies there and most of the time enjoyed being there. The caretakers are not where the problem is. It comes from the management and ends up reflecting into the classrooms. \r \r This facility is run very poorly, and I am sorry that I ev more

We love the Village School. My son has been there for six months now and is thriving. He came in an extremely shy, socially awkward kid who refused to nap and he's now the class clown with a ton of friends. They absolutely will not tolerate any hint of bullying or rudeness towards the other children. All the children are happy, well mannered, and adored. Every day that I pick my son up, at least two of his friends run up and tell me "guess what! we saw a catepillar! we did this, that. etc." it's so cute. The children have a ton of fun and learn a lot in a safe and loving environment. Almost all the teachers have been there 10+ years and really KNOW kids. They love each one and make sure the child not only knows they are loved, but also respected, and comfortable telling them anything and everything that may be troubling them. \r \r I would absolutely reccommend the Village School to anyone considering a change in child care. It took me a few months to find them, I went through more

Not sure what previous poster is referring to... The only semi-truth in her statement is that the building is ""old"", looks like it was built in the 80s like the rest of the surrounding neighborhood. If that's old, then I'm old too lol. Poo on the toilet? Perhaps she's referring to the paint being worn off of one of the toiled seats where the brown shows through. No, it's not the fanciest toilet I've ever seen. But it's definitely clean. Potty trainers don't need fancy. ""Urine"" is probably water on the floor. No, the lunches aren't organic and raw, but pretty well rounded. My son is vegetarian and they've been happy to go out of their way to make sure he gets a balanced meal. She sounds a little peeved about her account being late if you ask me. Go see the place for yourself, don't take OP's word for it. \r \r Moving on... we love the Village School. My son has been there for six months now and is thriving. My daughter has been going to The Village School for 3 years, now. I love this school just as much as my 4 1/2 year old. Each class that she grew into were well equipped rooms with ample space consisting of play toys, work surfaces, dress-up cloths, and computer games. \r \r The teachers are very organized and create fun crafts on a daily bases. All the children love to go to school to play, learn, and interact. Thanks-giving lunch is very special, every year, yummy. Let me not leave out the Halloween dress-up-party with prizes and tons of games that proved to be extremely fun for the adults, too. The Village School backyard playground is a wonderful surprise! It is a private spacious safe outing as large and well equipped as any public parks. Wow! makes you want to be young, again. \r \r I am so happy that my daughter choose this school. She on two occasions before The Village School asked to leave within 4-6 weeks of attending. So, once we settled her in this school for which is a 25 min. drive from home, we both knew it was a great choice and well worth the trip. And, now that we have been here for 3 years we grew to simply love it! \r \r What I love about this school is the personal attention each child receives. \r The love that these teachers have towards the children is amazing. It feels like home. All the new renovations have transformed their image for the better. The office is extremely professional and private. The school is safe and secure with coded entry.\r \r My daughter and I will cherish the memories formed in the last 3 years. We will always feel a special connection in our heart for all that they have done for us. I would like to thank all the staff, owner-Heather White, and especially, Ms. Sharon & Ms. Leslie for all these years of loving and teaching my daughter. \r \r more

1. The teachers. Amazing length of teacher tenure-- some of the staff have been there for over a generation, and their daughters work there too. The result is teachers who love their jobs, love the school, really know what they're doing, and truly care about the kids. \r \r 2. My kids love it there. They really seem to feel at home, and are happy going there each morning. I also believe the curriculum and daily structure has made them more adventurous, confident and capable in ways that I just can't take credit for. (And this is all important to assuage my working-mom guilt.)\r \r I will say it's probably not for everyone-- if you prefer a more swanky operation where things are brand-new and you can be buzzed in each morning, then you might prefer something really expensive; but if you like a homey environment and childcare with experienced no-nonsense teachers who really care about kids, then you've found the right place. Afterall it takes a village to raise a child and I've found a great one! more

HORRIBLE IN EVERYTHING!! 4/18/2012

Oh The Village School... Where do I start? This place is an absolute joke as far as childcare goes. The building looks like it should be condemned as it is literally falling apart. The "management" try to talk a good game on the low prices, but in all honesty, you get what you pay for. The children's "healthy snack" consists of crackers at each snack time. Whether it is saltine crackers, graham crackers, or round crackers. This is not the "healthy snack" I envisioned when I was pitched that line. As far as their "healthy lunches" go, those are nothing but starchy processed foods that I wouldn't even feed my dog. The bathrooms are disgusting and unsanitary and there have been a number of occasions where I have seen feces on the toilet or urine on the floor. The unprofessionalism is astounding! The "manager" is difficult to get in contact with and is never there. I don't think they have anybody who actually keeps up with the books because there have been a number of times where they tried to charge me late fees for my account not being up to date when I have paid ahead for the full month. When I pulled my son out, the "manager" said she would send me a check with my remaining money on my account since I paid ahead. I have yet to see that check. Save yourself some time, and do NOT enroll your child into this horrible daycare. Pros: null Cons: null more

Infant Room is Wonderful 3/27/2009

My seven month old has been attending the Village School for approximately 4 months. He loves it! The building is not very impressive at all, but the ladies in the infant room are all grandmas and know what they're doing with babies. I really wanted experienced workers since I am a first time parent, and they are very experienced. I can't speak on any of the other rooms as I don't know them, but I love the infant room!!! more

Nightmare!! 3/26/2008

I have recently pulled my children out of the Village School for the following reasons:\r \r Poor supervision - My daughter was bit 14 times in less than 9 months. She got a bump, scrape or scratch every single day. She never went a week without getting hurt at the school.\r \r Poor cleanliness - The boys bathroom is disgusting. There is a trough style urinal with no running water. The boys urinate into the trough while the urine slowly and not always drains down the drain. I would pick my son up repeatedly to find urine and feces on the toilets and floor.\r \r Abuse - I witnessed a teacher berating and pulling at a little girls pants because she had peed her pants. This was in the 2 year old class. She did it front of another parent and myself. She screamed "Why did you pee your pants again!!!?" "Your mother is about to get here!!!" I reported her to the director and nothing happened. I came in the next day and she was there teaching her class as if nothing happened. I spoke with other pare more

They care about the kids 1/22/2008

My son has been going to this daycare for over a year now and he loves it. The outward appearance of the building may not be impressive to some, but the people who work there are beyond what I expected for a commercial daycare center. The director Helle White knows all the children and takes a personal interest in their lives and development. The teachers are loving, stable (no rotating staff) and teach the 3-4 year olds a curriculum of the alphabet and special topics each week. They have a huge playground area in the back with old growth trees that allow outside play on all but the hottest summer days. There is an outside gymnastics program that comes in one day a week, in the summer they offer YMCA swim lessons, and professional photographers come in twice a year (additional charge applies for all). The older children have regular field trips/fun days and the youngest kids just have fun. The price is fair, the hours they are open are great (6:30am to 6:30pm), the location is c more

  • *Quality Childcare for 121 From Infants Through 12 Years of Age

The school has been in continuous operation as a childcare center since the mid seventies, under several different names. The Village School itself began operation in February 1996.

The owner of The Village School, Helle White, graduated from the University of Michigan. Helle has been in the childcare business for over thirty years, beginning as a director at Cochran Chapel in Dallas. Helle started her career as a childcare center director, eventually becoming a District Manager for Children's World Learning Centers.

Our mission at The Village School is to make available child care services that provide a responsive, developmentally appropriate environment for young children that supplements the home environment; facilitates optimal physical, intellectual, and social-emotional development in the children; and provides parents with a sense of security that their children are safe, nurtured, and appropriatel y stimulated.

If You Are New to Child Care--We recognize that, if this is your child's first experience with group care, he or she may have an adjustment period; and we realize that you may require an adjustment period also. There are recent studies on this subject, so please be assured that we are aware of the need for sensitivity in this area.. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has identified indicators of quality which are accepted by practitioners in early childhood education. Primarily, the components include small group size, low teacher-child ratios, teacher training, parental involvement, and an environment which is safe and clean. We at The Village School provide each of these key elements of quality care for your child.

Quality childcare requires planning activities that promote the total development of children. To achieve the goal of total development,we provide activities planning at The Village School that considers all of your child's daily needs, such as physical activities, social and emotional development, and cognitive and intellectual development. Also considered in this developmental program are outdoor play, indoor play, meals, and naps. We are flexible in how your child spends each day,but we keep in mind that these basic activities are essential to healthy me ntal and physical and development.
