We drove by the Vertical Diner this weekend, and from the exterior it looked like a classic, fun, little diner with the atmosphere you'd see on a Food Network show. We thought we would give it a try, hoping for some good food...not the case.\r

I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns. The biscuits were overworked, tough and hardly recognizeable. One was a round ball of dough on my plate that I could only stab with a knife, because I couldn't cut it. They served fried potatoes, instead of hashbrowns, that were too spicy and tasted like it was covering up the flavor of old oil in the frier.\r
\r
The worst part though were the flies. We were constantly swatting swarms of flies away from our food. The place also had a faint odor of cats. It had a cute, mismatched asian/diner theme that looked like fun, but in retrospect, we should have just left.\r

If they cleaned up the place and if the quality of the food backed up a nice menu, it could have a lot of potential. As is, not a good dining experience.
