Uncle Woody's

Uncle Woodys has the best pub quiz or trivia night in Clifton. The questions are good, the host writes them or finds them, so there are some good current event questions and local trivia. Most of the other bar trivia that I've been to get their questions provided from a service. You ought as well be playing Trivial Pursuit. The host is hillarious. To the reviewer below, please get over yourself. Buzzy didn't pay his taxes (i.e. Worker's Comp) and lost his liquor license. Nice guy, horrible businessman. Hardly good for the community when you don't pay your share to the tune of nearly 40k, which hurts other businesses and the city/state in general. John was an arrogant beer snob, who carried $8 beers 5 percent of his customers wanted, and refused to carry beers like PBR like 95 percent of the college public wanted. As a result, Mac's flourished, and Buzzy didn't have enough money to pay his share. We saw what happened, Woody's closed. And not with a bang, but with a whimper, one day there was just no Uncle Woody's anymore because Buzzy was so horrible a businessman. To the contrary, the current owners are nice AND savvy. They listen to their customers, and not just the ones who have no lives and chain themselves to the bar so much they get their name on the wall. So they filled the nasty, disgusting pit in, big deal. Actually, now that they have, Woody's is a much more impressive place. The back room can host much bigger parties, there is seating for things like karaoke and trivia, and the whole place isn't dank like a nasty basement. They included a back bar so the front isn't so crowded. They installed a rail in the front to improve traffic flow as well. And they're committed to improving. They're smart. They care. They're not just some cartoon character who had zero business sense and gave out hugs instead of paying his bills. News flash, you don't lose a liquor license for not paying Worker's Comp for years because you get screwed out of one deal. Buzzy is a charlatan. Entertaining, nice, and a complete fraud. The service at the new Woody's has greatly improved. This is a college bar, they can make any drink or shot their clientele needs with ease and care. The food is much improved, don't just write this place off, their burger is AMAZING and was recently a finalist for Best Burger in the nation on Regis and Kelly. I know a lot of feelings were hurt when Buzzy closed down and a new crew came in. I know people are whiners about any kind of change, but this is the quintessential college bar owned by a couple whose sole goal with it is to create a friendly, inviting, and warm atmosphere. I'm a UC Alum. I frequented the old Woody's and I frequent this one. This one is better. I miss Jimbo, sure. But I don't just hate the new because it's not the old. Anyone who does is missing out. Pros: Clean! Spacious! Great food! Cheap Beer! Awesome Owners! Cons: Need more Menus. Too many Fraternity people. more

The new owners are amazing. John and Lori are great people. I am a senior at UC and was going to Woody's when Buzzy owned the place and Woody's was just another bar. Now that John and Lori own the place its my visit in between classes its the place I wanna go every night. John and Lori knew my name by the second time I came into the bar. They always gave great service and I don't know what tallmarkh was talking about but Lori gives the best hugs. Woody's is a place where I can go to relax or have a great time. Lunch up there is the best. John and the other cook make amazing food and Lori is always right on top of things making sure your drink is full and if you need anything they will always go out of their way to help you. I would recommend Woody's to anyone that wanted to have a good time. When I look back at my college life the new Woody's with John and Lori running the place is going to be what I remember and enjoyed the most. Not the old Woody's. Even if they bring keg-n-eggs back. It will NEVER be Buzzy, John, Jimbo, Lauren, Kelly etc remembering your name, drink, where you're from.Buzzy gave the best hugs, was always there when ever we needed him. If we turn our backs on Buzzy( and the Woody's staff...)SHAME on US as LOVERS of everything that makes up UC.Not only do the bartenders have a blank stare on their faces, but so do ther useless owners.Also if they had a clue, NO ONE hires from the bartending institute--they only teach classic drinks and flare.Thats never what happens in a college bar.Deer in the headlights!!! You people should show REAL love of UC by not ever going, let alone a return visit.The new owner will never tell you that he and the landlord( original owner of the bar) SCREWED Buzzy out of money which caused him to close and lose everyone's favorite watering hole,plus everything he's ever worked hard for..You dumb asses, you filled in the hole...THE PIT is gone, what kinda of moron ruins a perfect place.Yeah it's called character, you dumb-asses. A little dirt,the graffittied bathrooms,the pit, the excellent food, and the perfect selection beer and liquor.Yeah atleast when Buzzy put on a Woody's Winter or Spring Wood, it was REAL beer ,not just natty light..and $6. a pitcher, and you screwed over the senior class by upcharging them a different price for every keg..WTF!.These people( new owners and old-ass worthless landlord), think, at their age they can come into the college market bc they have kids at miami(NOT UC), get a grip, you'll fail.You've already failed bc you didn't have Buzzy,John and Jimbo help you get it together.Everyone is calling it Aunt Woody's, who wants that..thats not the name( btw I heard Buzzy still owns the name and these dumb-asses will owe him lots-o-money).Hopefully more people will read this and post the proper review...NEGATIVE...I'm a grad student, and though I don't like much about the other bars, I'll never go back until Buzzy and his CREW are back!!!!! John and I (Mama Lorali) are the new owners of Uncle Woody's Pub and have BIG plans! First, it will be all clean!!! All the way from the tall cathedral ceiling down to the bathrooms! Promise! We have redesigned the bars, extending the front all the way to the back. It is almost finished and is going to be so cool! Lots of new TV's everywhere including the NFL package. We will still have the cheapest beer on campus but served by excited new bartenders that we recently hired. Our goal is to satsfy our customer quickly. I can't promise they will remember your name like someone mentioned in a review but we are here to please and if we see you often, I expect we will all be one happy family! We opened up the back with this new bar addition...The (filthy) pit is gone and we will now have an area for dancing, trivia, beer pong tournaments and more! We have planned a good 'bar food' menu and can't wait for you to taste our specialty stuffed burgers! So come in and ask for a WOODY (Our House Beer) and let's bring Woody's back to the old standard when my husband, the other owner, bartended there over 30 years ago. See you soon... This is a CHEAP place to get drunk. If not for kegs and eggs they would be useless.... I swear unless you have lots of financial problems you can find a better place to drink. The bartenders have a vacant stare and never remember you, the single dart board is always being played by employees. The outside is always dirty and there is nothing to do out there short of yelling at homeless people who pan handle out front of the place. For a few bucks more you can go next door to Papa Dino's which is admittedly not much of a bar but its better than Woody's. If you can spend a bit more cash then trek down the street to Murphy's or even across campus to Grail or Martinos. You know the bar is bad when the only place on campus less visited is Christy's.
