Best

I have been coming here since I moved to the area 6 years ago. It's great place to get a good meal and in a friendly environment. I love their new happy hour which has great drink...

Worst

This is an odd kind of place, right on the beach. It is not like other beach restaurants all of the country. The fly problem is, I guess, unavoidable, but annoying. The food is me...

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/21/2013

Try cleaning the place. Some beach places get away with murder. This is one of them. Also, a man who I was told was the owner walks around cursing and putting his hands on his staff and customers. I've never seen anyone in the restaurant business act like this guy. more

Service is a little slow, but 6/23/2012

Service is a little slow, but thoughtful. Sit outside and take in the Venice Beach scene pass by you. Breakfast options are solid. more

for its location, its great 3/31/2012

great spot. right near the water, service is ok. check out the pizza. Pesto chicken choice is nice! more

Nice From The Outside 9/30/2011

This is an odd kind of place, right on the beach. It is not like other beach restaurants all of the country. The fly problem is, I guess, unavoidable, but annoying. The food is mediocre and the service the same. The owner is one of the strangest restaurant owners I have ever come across. I don't know how this place survives. Management and some staff follow the owner's lead. more

Poor Service and Worse Management 1/21/2011

First impression from reality show ""All Worked Up"" on TruTV...owner acts like complete @sshole. I have no desire to ever spend money here and based on other reviews this place lacks service and quality food. I don't recommend spending your money here. more

I love your Happy Hour 9/22/2009

I have been coming here since I moved to the area 6 years ago. It's great place to get a good meal and in a friendly environment. I love their new happy hour which has great drink deals and appetizers. I love the pizzas and calamari. The bartenders are really great too! Pros: Great Happy Hour more

Horrendous - Tourists Beware 6/18/2009

I've been to some bad restaurants in this world, and this one ranks right at the top of the ""don't go"" list. If it weren't for the location, it would have died quick death long ago. And quite frankly, even though it is close to the beach, you can't see the beach. All you see is the beach parking lot, so why not go to any other place on Washington for a better experience. You've been warned. Pros: Other, better alternative restaurnts nearby Cons: Food, Service, Decor, Prices, Owner more

Tourist Trap - Poor food quality but nice location 8/21/2008

This is the first time I have ever been compelled to write a review of a restaurant. My fiance and I went there for lunch and had a rather poor experience. We are both former servers and each of us worked in the industry for at least ten years. So we are pretty giving and have realistic expectations when it comes to our dining experience. Pros: Good view and location Cons: Poor food quality more

Great location, Friendly Service, Yummy Food, Excellent 5/27/2008

We were visiting Venice Beach and decided to stop by The Terrace Cafe for breakfast. Even the outside of the place looks inviting and friendly. Service was great here, very friendly and fast. Their lox and bagel was excellent, as was the belgian waffle with fruit. Everything looks and tastes great. Even the coffee is good. We felt very relaxed and were able to enjoy ourselves here. Definitely recommend. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Great location, great food! 4/21/2008

What a way to end the day! Came across this place after a great day at the beach. We had cocktails at the bar, then made our way to the terrace for dinner. This place has great calimari. I'm usually not a fan of osso buco but I took a few bites of my husbands and Im hooked. Can't go wrong. I'm thinking of having my next birthday party here. more

You'll be surprised! 1/28/2008

Food was quite good. Don't be thrown off by the strange butterflies all over the restaurant. The food and service are really good, excellent beachside dining. Pros: Service and Open Late Cons: Parking and wine list more

Thank you for a fantastic Birthday! 11/12/2007

I want to thank the owners and the staff of The Terrace for making my birthday party last weekend so special! Everything was just perfect! The private patio with heaters and nice music was lovely, decorated with balloons (I did mention my B-day, making reservation, but never expected any extra decor!). I had some of the best appetizers I've ever had : fried calamari, baked portabella mushrooms, steamed mussels, crab cakes, shrimp ceviche - fresh and light on sauces. Wine list was reasonably priced, decent choices, nothing pretentious. And last, our server and busboys, who made it all work throughout the evening - they deserve the most compliments. Overall - two thumbs up! Pros: Great Location, Food and Service more

Amazing food and great location! 10/31/2007

For years I've been eating at The Terrace and it remains one of my favorite spots on the Westside. Pros: Food, ambience, location! Cons: Public parking lot could be pricey on weekends more

Fun Dining Experience 10/2/2007

I had an enjoyable dining experience at Terrace Cafe. I found the staff very friendly. Service was wonderful. more

Worst service! 5/3/2007

First off I wanna say that I signed up on citysearch just now, just so I can leave a review for this place. My boyfriend and I went there later at night, just because everything else was closing at that time. Seating was prompt. Food was decent, a bit expensive. The server was a complete moron, him being the reason why I absolutely don't recommend this restaurant. He was practicaly ignoring our table, us having to ask him and the busboy for waters and napkins and whatever else we needed. When we got our tab we found out why he didn't give a damn about our table, reason being the included gratuity of 18% added after tax!!!! Pros: location Cons: everything else more

WORST RESTAURANT SERVICE EVER 12/10/2006

I took a few out of town friends to this restaurant because it has a great location right on the beach. However, it was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! Even though I'm used to LA restaurants taking a while to seat and serve, the wait was rediculously long and our waitress later said that it took so long to even acknowledge us because no one had told her we had been seated there, even though there were 5 of us sitting at a big, obvious table right next to the entrance. She never apologized for our wait. She wouldn't take any special orders, and then after more waiting, when we finally got our food, one plate wasn't fully cooked. The food was mediocre. When we got the bill, the waitress included a 20% gratuity into the bill, because we had a ""large party"" and when I questioned her on what typically constitutes a large party (which is usually 8+ for most restaurants), she was really vague and said ""about 5 people,"" which was her way of justifying forcing us to give her a tip for bad service. When we split our bill, we requested that she charge specific amounts to our credit cards so we would have the option to leave whatever tip we chose, and not only did she ring up the 20% gratuity that she forced us to give her, but added an additional ""recommended tip"" on the credit card receipt. SHE WANTED US TO TIP HER TWICE FOR BAD SERVICE. I have never been so tempted to run out of a restaurant without paying, just because we had such a horrible experience and felt like we had been taken advantage of. It was EMBARRASSING to take guests there and now they have a bad impression of LA. Cons: Service is horrible, mediocre food more

DO NOT EAT HERE 2/27/2006

First we started with a cocktail in a dirty glass. Then we moved onto bad tasting, uncooked wings. The manager claimed they come already cooked, that did make me feel any better, by the way. Next came the main course $15.00 for the Jambalaya, which consisted of Elbow Macaroni and 2 pieces of sausage and 2 pieces of shrimp. Also my ""tri-tip"" sandwich was horrible in both smell and taste!! I've personally never seem white tri-tip??? SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY !! more

Pretty decent food, pretty silly prices. 2/1/2006

This restaurant is a frequent locale for me on late nights when I am hungry but too lazy to cook and everything else has closed nearby. Foodwise, I've stuck to primarily the same dish each time, but it somehow comes out different each day I order it. Some days are better than others here, other days I regret paying that much for something that mediocre. But most of the late night staff are super cool and friendly and I always feel welcome, so I keep coming back for more. Pros: nice staff, not crowded, late-night dining Cons: hit and miss food, pricey more

Fun place near MDR and Venice 1/6/2006

The owner of this establishment is pure wild Russian. His personality is enough to make the trip to this restaurant that features alfresco dining and a pretty eclectic menu. My first trip, he offered complimentary Polish vodka shooters and dill pickles (that's how they do it in Russia, he said). Off-the-wall comments to diners, very funny and accommodating. The food is good, not great, but considering the options in that area, better than most. I've been there for breakfast, too, which is popular on pretty days. All in all, a fun and pleasant place to eat and do a little drinking too. Pros: Right at Venice Pier, Fun owner, Al Fresco dining Cons: Parking, Average food more
