Cavet, it is not Mexican food....but New Mexican food! I am a local and my husband and I try to eat there as often as we can because the food is just amazing! However, you may experience some what of a wait. Pros: Great food Cons: Need to get there early more

Best Mexican ""hole in the wall"" 5/27/2009

Simple yet very delicious renditions of good Mexican food. I love the red chile sauce with eggs and tender meat. Been to Santa Fe only four times but was lucky on my first visit. It is a must stop every time! Pros: Best breakfasts anywhere Cons: Unless you are early, you will have a long wait more

Great New Mexican Food 8/5/2008

My husband and I saw this restaurant featured on the Food Network and decided to check it out while on a recent trip to Santa Fe. We went on a Sunday after church and saw a line out the door. We knew it had to be good. We actually only ended up waiting about 15 minutes. The staff are very efficient and turned the tables over quickly. I ordered the breakfast burrito with both red and green chile (Christmas style as they call it in Santa Fe). My husband had the chorizo and eggs with a side of homemade potatoes and hash. I liked that instead of toast they provided a basket of muffins and cinnamon rolls that were obviously homemade. It was all wonderfully prepared and the staff were very friendly and made sure our drinks were refilled and we had everything just right. The red and green chile were both very good and both spicy. The decor was cute, all things owls-Tecolate is the spanish word for owl. This is not a fancy place, just good, plain down home cooking with a New Mexican flair. We liked it so much we returned one more time before leaving. I highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful breakfast. Just realize this is a very busy place and there maybe a wait. Pros: Great food, great service, wonderful breakfast choices, great chile Cons: Expect a wait, this is a busy place more

Tasty Local Food 2/28/2008

My husband and I read about this place in a guide book, and it was right down the street from our hotel. They had a great selection of items on the menu, ranging from the basic breakfast items, like eggs, pancakes, etc, and also offered interesting local flavors, like burritos and huevos rancheros. My husband had the breakfast burrito, and I had the huevos yucatenos (or something like that), which was essentially huevos rancheros, but served with FRIED BANANAS instead of chorizo. It was fantastic! Everything was house made, from the chile sauces to the delicious muffins. more

A taste of New Mexico 5/26/2006

What can I say- great food, cute place, good views? All of the above. The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and were very informative when it came to things to do and see, where to stay, local customs and quirks, etc. It also had a warm, homelike atmosphere- My family and I loved this place and ate there every morning of our vacation! more

What's the big deal? 7/5/2005

Ordered Breakfast and found the food to be very bland...I could have stayed at home and had a more tastey meal at a much less price.... Pros: good service Cons: bland food more
