They could step it up a bit 7/31/2011

Well, the sushi is OK... Not great. The service really needs some improvement. They need to keep their patio's cleaner. The atmosphere is pretty good. Over all, there are way better sushi places in Scottsdale. Oh yeah, and create a kids menu please. We have two little ones and they love hip places too. more

Great Sushi 11/30/2010

The Philadelphia roll at RA is absolutely superb. I believe that anyone who loves sushi should definitely go to RA just for this one roll. They have some of the best salmon I've ever found in Arizona and the chef that prepared it made it brilliantly. RA has a very nice atmosphere and the service is fantastic, but that isn't the reason to go. People need to go so they can experience brilliant sushi. They use the freshest ingredients at RA which is what makes the rolls so good. It's almost impossible to find good fish in the Phoenix area, but they somehow managed to find the best that I've had. The cream cheese has the perfect amount of sweetness and the cucumber is crisp. When all these items are combined by the chef it turns into a wonderful treat. The chef is a master of rolling sushi and seasons the meat perfectly. If you're going to get this roll don't dip it in soy sauce or wasabi, don't ruin the subtle flavors of this spectacular roll. It needs to be eaten on its own so you can experience the freshness of the fish. The greatest thing about this roll is that it isn't too expensive, if you go during happy hour it's only about five dollars a roll and that's incredibly cheap for something of this quality. If you go to RA and order a Philadelphia roll I can guarantee you will have an amazing dining experience. more

My favorite sushi joint 6/8/2010

Been to RA in Tucson and the Ray Rd. Phx location a LOT over the past 6 years. Not much has changed -- they always have plenty of giant bottles of Asahi / sake bombers, the music is always thumping and there are always plenty of people to look at, much more so in Phx than in Tuc. Great sushi never dissapoints. Even friends in the 21-40 age bracket who don't eat sushi like the place for the booze and the scene. Try it out. Pros: Hip crowd, tasty food, saki bombers-a-plenty Cons: Expensive, occasional slow service more

Good Place 1/30/2010

Great Sushi. Always feel you are getting the best ingredients. Pros: One of the best in Phoenix Cons: Youth theme. more

better than average. 1/20/2010

The food was better than average. Service was good. Would go back. more

Delicious drinks 11/22/2009

This is the hippest sushi place i've been to and i'm going to have to give them 5 stars despite the sometimes slow service. It's a really chill and freidnly atmosphere and everyone just gets loose. Their sushi is superb and they just revamped their drink menu, the strawberry soju sunrise is my favorite. Best combo of food, drinks, and atmosphere for miles... Pros: Happy Hour more

I CRAVE Ra Sushi... 1/2/2008

Ok, so the sushi at Ra is not at all Authentic, plus the wait staff is sooooo slow it gets on your nerves quickly (especially if you didn't order a Sake Bomb to soothe the pain). BUT there are two rolls that have me coming back for more - I love the Gojiro Roll and the Crunchy Shrimp Roll. Both are totally overpriced(along with everything else on the menu) but well worth it. I'm telling you I get the strangest cravings for those two rolls and no other place in Scottsdale has anything quite like these - born and raised here I like to think I'm the proper critique : ) . now if you are a serious sushi eater, then forget it. But if you like fluff and different tastes combined into one entree to excite your palate - you should at least check it out. Please be prepared for : slow service, loud music, & a steep bill. (now you know those two rolls have to be worth it fi I keep coming back after all that) : ) Pros: Gojiro & Crunchy Shrimp Rolls Cons: Service & Prices more

Excellent service, generous portions and great atmosphere 12/15/2007

I seriously eat at RA at least once a week. They have the freshest sushi and are generous with their quantities! Any roll with real crab meat will get me on board and they aren't shy about it. Whether you feel like going it alone, are on a date, or with a group of friends, this is definitely a great spot. Pros: Great food/sushi, generous portions, friendly waitresses Cons: Take-out is a little bit of a wait in my experience more

BEST Sushi and Patios 11/26/2007

We have been to almost all of the RA locations, and this one has got to be the best! The atmosphere was upbeat and kicking; the sushi was the freshest I have had in the Valley in a very long time. Their unique rolls kept me entertained with an impressive bite every time. I have a soft spot for Sake and their own personal brand is excellent. I would recommend this to anyone who has a craving for sushi and fun. Pros: Great Happy Hour more

Best in Phoenix area, awesome food 7/24/2007

I really enjoyed eating here. The food was very good. The selection was amazing and we really enjoy chatting with the sushi chef. I would mention that this place does look kind of trendy but the atmosphere was very nice. I have had sushi at their Tucson location and it was good but the atmosphere here was really fun. Quality was very good and portion was way above average. Pros: Food, service, ambience, everything was very good Cons: Maybe a little loud for some date situations but their Tucson location was quieter more

RA = really awful sushi 7/2/2007

Why is it when I visit a big city (or vicinity), I have to try the sushi? I always swear never to eat seafood when I visit Phoenix. It has always been a bit sketchy - not fresh, poorly prepared, etc. Well, I broke down again while shopping at the Keirland Commons development in Scottdale and stopped in for lunch at RA Sushi Bar. ""RA"" is the god of the Sun, but in this context, I think it stands for ""really awful"". From the barely in high-school hostesses checking out the vacationing college hunks to the inattentive wait staff, to the disorganized kitchen, this place was a disaster. The decor was a jumble of cliche's - hint to interior designers: painting things red and black does not make them asian... Pros: Air conditioning Cons: everything else more

Trendy, But Decent 6/26/2007

RA is a little too Scottsdale trendy and hip for my tastes, but the decor is really cool. The prices and sushi are okay...I prefer Sushi Brokers on Scottsdale Road. Pros: Decent Sushi Cons: Too Trendy more

decent cheap sushi 10/19/2006

typical american owned chain sushi joint. nothing authentic about the food. esp all the crazy rolls. not the freshest seafood. but for beginners this place will be a good place to start. i dont recommend the sashimi here. just stick to the non authentic mayo filled rolls. hot entrees were average, decor was trendy cheap. good drink specials and sake bombers. Pros: cheap drinks/happy hour Cons: food was not authentic more

Fun Atmosphere 7/20/2006

Ra has a great casual, fun atmosphere...the sushi is okay, there's definitely better around town, but you can't beat the vibe here. Great bartenders, great bar area. more

If you want attitude go here! 7/16/2006

Each time I go to this location, I am disappointed and vow never to come back but, somehow, I enfd up here once in a blue moon and, I am again disappointed. The food is good but, the service is the worst I have ever encountered. Pros: In a great location Cons: To many to list more

Great Atmosphere... 7/9/2006

Not to mention the sushi. Kierland is a great place to shop around, and RA should be a definate stop! more

Lived in Japan for 3 years - so listen up 3/15/2006

Happy hour prices are the best, food is consistently great, hot waitresses little slow but get the job done, chefs are quick efficient and wash hands repeatedly. They even have ORION Okinawa beer for a good price. Pros: Orion beer, delicious, scottsdale chicks Cons: happy hour not long, rolls pricy more
