Another East Charlotte Secret 2/6/2011

""Zhank you fah cawling Portofino Eastway!"" I have been calling this place to place orders for the past 15 years and i never get tired of hearing the Italian accent on the other end of the line. OH! and the food's good, too. My husband thinks this pizza is the best. Between here and Capriccio's, I'm not sure, both great. We love the antipasto, Hot Subs, Veal Marsala, and desserts. Consistently Good. This is another East Charlotte gem worth trying. more

Little Italy in CLT 9/19/2009

Good old fashion Italian 2/9/2009

We have gone to this place a few times and by far it is like old school italian. The portions are generous and the prices are great. The atmosphere is perfect and you can even sit outside on a nice warm night. Overall this is the best italian food I have tatsed in Charlotte. Pros: great food, good prices Cons: hidden location more

Not the best pizza in Charlotte 9/7/2008

This place may not be as bad as the rating I gave it, but I'm going to tell you why! This place has been 50/50 for me and several other people I know. I was there last night and the pizza was burnt! They wouldn't take it back beacuse ""I bit into the pizza and noticed it was burnt"" The server said I shouldn't have tasted the pizza and they would have taken it back. That makes a TON of sense. They do have several locations and I would not recommend this location. Gastonia is pretty cool and Park Rd isn't so bad. You can eat here but beaware you have a 50% chance of the food being burnt!!! I eat out a lot and I will NEVER go back to Eastway Dr! Pros: Nice place for cheap Cons: food may be burnt and the service is a tad bit suspect more

Newer Portofino's on Park Road 1/10/2006

Definitely an 'upscale' version of the Eastway location. Same good food. Very full on weekend dinners -- make reservation or plan for a late supper. Been eating there regularly since they've opened and never been disappointed. Can alter menu items to suit. Get a special and split it, you'll have plenty. more

Real Italian Food 9/7/2004

Most ""Italian"" restaurants in Charlotte are so-called ""gourmet"" Italian food. You may get a couple of spaghetti noodles and some funky sauce for $20 a plate at some of these places. Others serve chili as their sauce on the pasta and claim ""it's the same thing."" Natives here should stick to BBQ and grits. None of that here. Just good Italian food cheap with great service. Eggplant, mostacolli, baked ziti, etc. Authentic cheese cake as well. It is very similar to literally dozens of family-owned restaurants near where I used to live in Buffalo. Northern transplants MUST eat here. Pizza is the best in town as well. Nice and greasy, the way pizza should be. They also have a location on Park Rd between Woodlawn and Tyvola. Pros: price, service, portion size/quality more

The BEST! 12/11/2003

I moved to Charlotte from New Haven CT...home to some of the best pizza in the world...Pepes Sally's Ernies, Zuppardi's ect. Portifino's is the closest I can find! It's great pizza....hint: ask them to cook it well done! Pros: Inexpensive, Quick, Fresh more

Go for the food! 6/3/2003

I have been to the other ""so called"" Italian restaurants in town. Portofino's, however, is my favorite. The sauces are flavorful and the staff is so friendly. You will not pay for the fancy location like you do in many other dining establishment here in Charlotte...but you get a great meal! Pros: Awesome Food, Great Variety, Nice Staff Cons: Location more

Great! 4/22/2003

Great service along with the best Italian food south of NY. No other place in Charlotte compares! Pros: Great selection, Inexpensive, Friendly staff more

Hands down, the best NY style pizza 1/2/2003

I went for the pasta but friends told me to try the pizza - it was the best they'd ever had. They were absolutely right! It's almost impossible for me to eat any other pizza but Portofino's. They keep it simple and use the freshest ingredients. My favorite is the cheese topped sometimes with mushrooms - simple and satisfying. The crust is crispy on the edge and just chewy enough. If for some reason have some leftover to take home, reheat in the toaster oven. DO NOT MISS the house dressing - you may never go back to ranch again! Pros: best pizza, well priced, friendliest staff Cons: crowded more

Excellent food 1/2/2003

Good food, good wine list, not long on ambience but better than paying $$ for the tablecloth instead of the food like you do at some places. more

Great food !! 12/5/2002

The very BEST all around Italian restaurant I've ever eaten in. Pros: Best food, Friendly staff Cons: Not the best location more

This must be heaven... 10/31/2002

If I had to choose a restaurant to spend eternity in this would be the one. The Best stromboli I ever had and a sauce that takes my right back to Mom's kitchen. Pasta, (the food of the gods) is done right at Portofino's. There Pizza is just another slice of Heaven. Make a reservation if you can for evening dining. Pros: Great bread, Large portions more
