Great experience 8/3/2010

I must disagree with the other two reviewers: I have shopped across the street at Taj Mahal for years and have found the products to have expired dates, or to have the expiration date blacked out. I went to this little store on a whim and was pleasantly surprised: the prices were awesome! The store was clean and bright. The owner brought me a basket and was very courteous. I found everything I needed, with expiration date listed 2012, 2013 and as I was shopping on Saturday 7/31/2010, this was a great boon! I bought many things in the comfort of knowing that they were safe and healthy and with a long shelf life. The selection of spices, teas and condiments was exceptional. I was mainly impressed with the large number of shelf ready entrees which were better than any i have found at other places, and one brand in fact has a standing "buy two, get one free" offer! So I am able to purchase a weeks worth or more of delicious vegetarian entrees for much less than I would spend eating "junk" for lunch when I forget to pack a lunch. I bought many sweets which were fresh and delectable. The lady at the counter was helpful and friendly and when I said in parting, see you next time, she smiled broadly, nodded and gave me thumbs-up! How could anyone go wrong here? Between this and Sara food store on Sherman, I can get everything I need and they are both so close and have the most friendly, helpful service. I am so glad that I found this store. Yes it is tiny and cozy, but everything in it is a gem. Reminds me of stores back in the sixties, when us gringos were just discovering Indian music, food, and culture, before everything became so developed. I was extremely happy with my experience and I will shop here forever, now that I am aware of it! more

Other places to go to 8/18/2005

This grocery store cannot compete with the other Indian grocery stores in the area. Their prices are not competitive because it is a smaller place and they cannot keep up with the ever growing Indian grocery market of that area. They do have a dedicated clientale, but if you are looking for a good Indian grocery shopping experience and comparable prices, then look elsewhere, such as Taj Mahal Imports or India Grocers. more

Patel Brothers 8/18/2005

While other Indian grocery stores are booming and expanding, Patel Brothers is dying. With lackluster service, higher prices, and a terrible location, it not a big surprise why it’s losing business. Terrible location must be a curse for this establishment because the previous location was equally as bad. Unless you have to, it is better to shop somewhere else like Taj Mahal imports, which is one mile away. more
