Great service! 11/13/2010

My 13 year old son wanted contacts. I took him to Overland Optical Family Eye Care. They did a very thorough exam - I was so impressed with how well they handled my teenager. The doctor reassured me that my son was ready for contacts and a back-up pair of glasses. Then it was time for my son to learn how to put in and take out his contacts. Gary at Overland sat with my son and patiently helped him learn how to care for his contacts and even reminded him that he needed clean (soap-free) fingers for applying his contacts. He worked with him for about 30 or 40 minutes until my son seemed very confident. Gary made his day (and mine)! Then, it was on to picking out frames. They have great styles that my son thought looked cool too. It's hard to impress a teen who thinks they don't want to ever wear glasses again but he picked out a great Nike frame. All in all, a great experience! more

I am so impressed with Overland Optical's staff! My 13 year old son wanted contacts. The exam went great and I was pleased with how thorough the doctor was. The doctor felt my son was ready and responsible enough to handle contacts. Gary at Overland sat down and worked with him for awhile helping him learn how to put in and take out his contacts. He also really stressed the importance of keeping not only his contacts clean but his hands clean while putting them in. This is not an easy concept for a young teenage boy to remember but Gary put it to him in easy terms and made him feel confident. Now, I hear him quoting the staff from Overland to his friends who want contacts. They really made my son's day and mine! more

Excellent! 8/6/2010

I was very impressed with Overland Optical Family Eye Care. It's been a couple of years since my last visit, but the staff is still attentive, friendly and caring. The ladies at the front desk greeted me with a smile and the Dr's assistant was efficient and friendly as well. Dr. Schmitz is thorough and took the time to answer all of my questions. I was glad to see the updates in equipment -- we went over the pictures of my eye and she will keep them on file to compare during future visits! When it was time to look for my glasses, I had lots of choices in both styles and price ranges. Plus I was able to get my glasses the same day. Overall a great experience. more

Overland Optical could use some improvement 3/19/2007

I have to say the staff was very friendly, helpful and conversational; however Dr. Rose forgot to give me a brochure that he promised to give me and even tho I paid for a glasses exam, he never gave me my script. I can only assume they are hoping I will purchase my glasses at their store and I would if their selection was greater. I overheard one of staff misquoting information to a customer about polarizing sunglasses (said that's where the color comes from and never did mention the differences or benefits of polarizing lenses vs. regular sunglasses). The customer was totally befuddled! Another issue I had is I used Vision One discount plan and Overland Optical did not price my invoice correctly (was $4 in my favor actually). When I asked about purchasing contact lenses they said they obtain theirs from 1-800 Contacts. She said Overland Optical doesn't offer any other discounts because 1-800 Contacts is offering a $30 discount if you purchase a year's worth and send in your exam receipt from Overland Optical - that's the only discount they give. Vision One plan says I should recieve 15% off of "retail" for regular and 5% discount on disposables and nowhere on Vision One's website does it say I have to purchase a minimum quantity to receive their discount. I believe in doing business with local providers but heck why should I purchase my lenses thru Overland Optical and add the cost of a middleman if I can get them direclty from 1-800 Contacts! And it appears to me that Overland Optical's staff could benefit from a bit more instruction/training on their products, pricing and insurances so they provide accurate information to their customers. Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Appears to be on time with appointments. Cons: Staff could be better educated on products, pricing and insurances. more

All Your Optical Needs in One Stop 11/10/2005

I've been going to Overland Optical since I was a child and am still pleased with their service. They personalize each transaction and give complete and thorough exams each and every time. Whether you're looking for designer frames or the cheaper brands, they've got it. I'm able to get my high index lenses with no problem and they make sure that I am totally comfortable and satisfied before I leave. I'll continue going there for all my vision needs and plan on taking my daughter if she should ever need any correction for her vision. more

Great service and Competence 11/17/2003

The last optician my wife went to didnt finish her exam because one eye was so bad off. He just wrote a bogus script. The one before told her to never come back after he had written three bad scripts for glasses and given her contacts that kept scratching her corneas. At Overland the doctor took the time to explain that she had a defect that the other opticians hadnt caught. He showed her that her glasses were way off and that is why she got headaches from them. He was thorough, friendly, and extremely competent. I observed the staff while I waited for her. They were very knowledgeable, courteous, and quick to help customers. We are so happy with Overland and will never go anywhere else. Pros: Competent, knowledgeable, freindly Cons: pricey, but worth it more
