The Skinny
Although consumerism may be seen as a necessary evil in today's art scene, without a delicate balance between the two, neither benefits. Nowhere is this more evident than in the One World Gallery; while not lacking in goods, its tendency to cater to the consumer sorely inhibits the creative.
Don't Be Fooled
Though offered in the local papers as a gallery, that label is more misleading than descriptive. Though the One World has many works to show, presentation is geared much more toward the paying customer than the art crowd. Overcrowded and sometimes difficult to navigate, its chaotic feel is somewhat grating on the nerves.
Best Bet?
Formerly known as the Day Star Gallery, the One World Gallery seems to be on the cusp of deciding what its wants to be. From trendy art postcards to photographic portraits, prints of 1940's movie icons and Keith Haring prints, it offers a wide variety of art-related paraphernalia; in fact, one can hardly wander the store with tripping over (literally) a canvas or sculpture. Unfortunately, given the restrictive size of the shop, it would do much better to scale back and focus on providing quality rather than quantity.
