My man simply adores a good steak.\r So, we went to Morton's Steakhouse on Liberty Ave in Pittsburgh for my boyfriend's birthday on 2/24.\r \r We had a terrible experience.\r Disappointed is an awfully inedequate adjective - our reaction was a stunned, blind-sided disappointment.\r \r Please, if you want to experience a romantic, enjoyable evening with your love, don't do what I did - don't go to Morton's. more

When I want beef...... 2/22/2011

When I want beef, I go to Morton's and drag people with me. As a frequent traveler to Chicago, I have had experience with ""Steak House"" dining out there for many years. I actually went to the original Morton's and personally, Pittsburgh's set-up is a close copy.\r \r Traditional, huge portions and very much like a Men's Club, that sums it up. Though it may cost a good bit to get in, you don't have to be a ""member"".\r \r Go and stuff yourself on a Double Porterhouse, you will love it! more

Great Service but So-So Steaks 7/6/2008

My wife, my son, and I visited Morton's last week. The service was outstanding, but the steak was tough (medium rare) with good (not great) flavor. For the price, the steak quality should be fantastic. A $42 steak should be tasty, tender, and memorable. Morton's should strive to have their food quality match the service and price! I did not use valet service, but I did note that people that did had their cars parked illegally on the street. Pros: Great Service Cons: Steak Quality Not There more

Great special occasion restaurant 12/24/2007

My husband and I went to Morton's last night for a Christmas Eve dinner. We'd never been there and thought it would be a good treat for the holidays. Overall, the service was top-notch. The only downside was that we tried to use their valet parking service but gave up after waiting in line for awhile. We had a reservation and our table was ready and waiting when we arrived (this is a major pet peeve of mine so they win huge marks for this one). Our waiter (Joshua) was attentive and friendly (without being obnoxious) and provided good recommendations. The restaurant was crowded but the level of noise was comfortable. The staff members were all very professional and courteous. \r \r We had the tuna tartare and oysters for appetizers, both delicious as were the salads. Initially we were both going to order the filet but I was swayed by the waiter to the NY strip. My husband ordered his filet rare and I ordered my strip medium-rare - both were cooked to temperature (although mine was a little over-cooked on the outside). I'll be sticking with the single-cut filet next time. The side dishes were large enough to share. For dessert we each had a bitter-chocolate cake (not the hot-in-the-center signature one). It was served with fresh cream and was the perfect ending to the meal. The timing of the courses was perfect - never waiting too long yet never rushed.\r \r Overall, I think the food was very good albeit very expensive. My one complaint would likely be the price of the wine by the glass. I picked a low-to-moderate priced Renwood zinfandel and it was $15/glass. \r \r I think Morton?s is a good bet if you want to mark an occasion with dinner. If you?re reticent to drop $200-$300 on dinner for two, you might want to go elsewhere. There are many high quality restaurants available in the city that would cost you half as much. But if you want to dine to impress, give Morton's a try.\r Pros: Top-notch service and a meat-lover's paradise Cons: Expensive more

A Must for any steak lover in the burgh 8/31/2006

The atmosphere was executive, yet comfortable with excellent service to help you enjoy your experience. The steak, which we had medium rare, was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. This is a perfect way to celebrate a romantic occasion, or a promotion at work. The prices are high but most exclusive restaurants with this level of quality are. It's definitely worth trying at least once. Save it for a special occasion! Pros: Best steak in the burgh Cons: High prices, but well worth it. more

Good food, overpriced... 6/29/2006

We recently ate at Morton's for our 10th wedding anniversary. We've been to many fine restaurants in Pittsburgh and in other cities, and felt that Morton's would be the perfect place to celebrate this milestone. We had been warned that it was pricey, but we don't mind paying extra for a special occasion and especially if the dining experience warrants it. The atmosphere was fine. The dining room was crowded, but we were seated at an intimate table. The wait-staff was very friendly and helpful--we never felt overwhelmed or underattended. For dinner, we started with lobster bisque, which was tasty, but not exceptional. I had oysters, which were very good. For the main course, my husband had the filet, which was ""fine"". He felt it was overly seared on the outside. I had the prime rib, which was described as a double-cut. It was actually a much smaller portion than I expected. I really thought I'd have plenty of left overs, but I was able to finish the entire thing--something I don't usually do with prime rib! It was delicious, although a bit salty. We were choosy when picking our a la carte vegetables, thinking that we'd have huge portions served, as is the case with Ruth's Chris. They were NOT large portions--only about 8-10 asparagus spears and the hashbrown potatoes were presented like a potato pancake, but overcooked and too crispy. Our dessert, the hot chocolate cake, was very good, but again, not exceptionally presented. These items, with 2 glasses of merlot and a soft drink, was over $180- not including the tip. It was a good dinner, but nothing stood out as truly exceptional, unique, or what I would describe as a culinary experience--as you would expect with these prices. Pros: good food, although not exceptional Cons: overpriced more

Simply the Best 9/14/2005

The steaks and the service are second to none. Friendly atmosphere. Pros: excellent, melt in your mouth Cons: restaurant is a littl more

Loved it all (but the choc souffle) 7/31/2005

Stayed just one night in Pittsburgh and walked to Morton's from our hotel. Server was wonderful, the drinks were the best I've had in quite some time, and food was all perfect - until we got to the choc souffle. I'm still wondering where the chocolate was. It tasted like a fluffy bread pudding to husband and I. Blech when you're expecting something different. Other than that, the meal and service were perfect. Pros: Steaks, Service Cons: Souffle more

great restaurant 10/19/2004

My husband and I ate there recently and the food was fabulous. I had the crab cakes and he had lamb. I highly recommend the Chocolate Godiva Cake for dessert. It was great!!! more

Morton's is undoubtedly this country's #1 Steakhouse, and Pittsburgh is THE BEST!! From Diane's perfect Martinis with Blue-Cheese Stuffed Olives, to the superb service provided by the staff under the direction of Manager Bill Ferron, every visit is flawless! This is withour question Pittsburgh's top Steakhouse and the top spot for business entertaining and pre or post theater dining. Bravo! Pros: Valet Parking, Superb Service, Great Clientele Cons: Not Open for Lunch more

Couples and value 8/24/2003

We found Morton's with very good food, but very slow service. The Restaurant was very crowded and that made for a very hectic dinner environment with which we couldn't even hear ourselves talking. Tables were too close to booths which added to this unccomfortableness. The cost was alot for what we normally spend so this will not be a place we would return even though the food was good. Our waiter was pro-occupied with running around preforming that little intro they give you at the tables when you've never been there before, and was terrible. Then he never brought back our change from the bill and we couldn't even find someone in charge to retrieve it. We had show tickets and had to leave to make curtain time. And the price should be dropped much less for the environment they present. Pros: Good food choices, Good Food Taste Cons: Crowded, Expensive, Poor Employee Quality more

Hands down the best in the Burgh 5/15/2003

I can't believe Outback would beat this place. Outback does not even compare!!! Not in the same planet, solar system, etc.!!! The check might be a little pricey (cost us about $250 for 4 of us to have dinner and deserts) but was well worth it. Nice ambience and excellent service. The tableside menu presentation is also great, definitley not something you get at a family-styled restaurant like Outback. If you want a place to eat thats goes far far beyond the average steakhouse (Including number 1 and 2 on this list), this is the place to go!!! more

Good but not the best 1/13/2003

The Quality of the meat is very good and the preparation is too, but somehow the steak falls short of Ruth's Chris. Morton's doesn't use butter as Ruth's Chris does, but it seems that there's something more than that missing. more

Puttin' on the Ritz 12/17/2002

Excellent food in a warm yet formal environment. Waitstaff that define the term professional, yet also friendly and extremely personable - very much a Pittsburgh trait. The beef is as good as it gets. Sides are generous and tasty. I've not had the seafood. Tableside presentation is very well done. I used to be a Ruth's Chris fan, but Morton's has become my favorite restaurant in the Pittsburgh area. Pros: Food, Service, Staff Cons: Expensive, Parking more

burnt meat 10/24/2002

Atmosphere is nice but the food was not as great. I ordered the filet mignon medium and it came out burnt! There was so much burnt meat on it, I don't know how I even got it down. It was also very overpriced for what you get. Pros: good atmosphere, good service Cons: bad food, overpriced more

Great steak, great atmosphere 7/23/2002

Compared to other restaurants for steak in town, Morton's has a great romantic and dark look. Very personal. The service is outstanding as well! Pros: Steak, Dessert, Service Cons: Expensive, Parking more
