I first heard of Mondo's about 6 years ago. I had a friend that worked there and he brought home some sandwiched that he had made. I tell you what, I had one of the best Reuben sandwiches I have ever eaten that day.
When I finally decided to go eat at Mondo's, everything I had pictured about the place was proven to be wrong. I had pictured a small sandwich shop or deli type establishment. While there was a cafe type bar for lunch, everything else was more of a cozy, even romantic styled restaurant.
The atmosphere was very cozy; the lights are a little dimmed down, the music wasn't too loud (and it was more instrumental music than anything else), and the waitstaff was very attentive and friendly, yet gave us the privacy we needed to enjoy our meal.
The menu selection was a shock as well. There were items such as fresh mussels over pasta, pork tenderloin, and even a few vegetarian meals.
Yes, there were some sandwiches on the menu, but that night I bypassed them in order to try a house specialty dinner.
Then comes the price. Where other establishments are able to charge $15 -$20 per the same types of selections, Mondos had them beat. I fed a family of four for just over $35.
Mondo's has become one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston With it's seasonal menu and daily specials, no two visits are identical.
