Amazing steak...very expensive 10/25/2006

I ate the bone-in-filet which was incredible. Mastro's is a step above Morton's as far as quality of meat and probably just as expensive. As a law student, money is an issue so save this place for the day you pass the Cali bar exam, it's that good! more

The lowdown: Parking = free - we just parked on the street Ambiance = excellent. live music, cozy, but not stuffy Steak quality = the best in LA Steak size = the biggest I've seen served Appetizer quality = good. the mash potatoes are ok. Ahi tuna is excellent. Appetizer size = they, unlike most high class places, give you the amount you pay for (large portions). Service = OK. I mean, it's good compared to any ol' restaurant, but it's not quite up to par with some of the really nice places I've been. They have people standing around ready to pour your water into glasses for you and refill your drinks etc . . . but they're not careful. One filled up my friends half-empty glass with contents from a different type of drink. We were about done at that point, but it would have been a nice gesture for them to offer a replacement. Also, our server, though courteous and decently attentive, seemed to turn into a b**** immediately after we paid our bill (with 20% tip). She sure put on a good show during our meal though. Ahh...hollywood - the best actors in the world. Overall, excellent excellent experience. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing, really. Maybe slightly better service would be good more

Great steakhouse...excellent customer service....great food.... 10/9/2006

I recently dined there for my birthday and our waiter Ryan was amazing. If you like a loud dining area sit upstairs, if you want it more on the quiet side sit downstairs. We started off with the shrimp and crab cakes. Crab cakes were amazing. Then we had the bone in filet which was great ...the petit filet wasn't anything to rave about. However, the lobster mashed potatoes and creamed corn and mac n cheese are out of this world. The chocolate sin cake isnt great but it is the only chocolate dessert on the menu...try the pecan pie a la mode you won't be dissapointed. And if it's your birthday let them know when you make the reservation so they can write out "happy birthday" on whatever dessert you choose. Their customer service was the best I have come across since I moved to Los Angeles other restaurants should follow in their footsteps. They even called me the next day to ask me about my dining experience. Now that is what I call a classy restaurant. Pros: great food, great service. Cons: a little too loud more

Best Steak House in Town...! 10/2/2006

We dine out quite a bit but seem to keep coming back to Mastros. The service is always excellent. We prefer to sit upstairs at the piano bar where the atmosphere is fun and lively. Recently I tried their Key Lim Pie Martini and it was delicious. The Mac n cheese which was recently added to the menu is out of this world. Pros: Food, cocktails, service Cons: Can get expensive more

Simply the best steakhouse experience I've ever had 9/25/2006

I am from Texas, and had some clients from Louisiana with me for a business trip. I've been to some of the finest steakhouses in the country, including many on all the Top 10 Steakhouse lists you find on the airlines. Hands down, this was the best steak I've ever had. I ordered the end cut of the bone in prime rib, and it was to die for. The menu boasts the most extensive and impressive list of cuts I've ever seen. I also thought the wasabi mashed potatoes and gorgonzola mac n' cheese (yes, mac n' cheese) were the tastiest sides I've ever had. The waitress was very polished and had a great attitude, and the place just reeked of class. I'd definately recommend you take people there if you're wanting to impress them. Not cheap, but class doesn't come that way. Pros: Menu selections, Size of Steaks, Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese! Cons: not cheap, abit crowded seating, dark more

Really good steak; cool ambiance 9/25/2006

We arrived late (around 10:30p) and were told the restaurant closed at 11. We were seated promptly and were told the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes. We ordered quickly--just the steaks and two sides for our party of 4--and the food was brought out quickly. I had the bone-in filet and it was sublime! The mashed potatoes were really flavorful, and the twice-baked potato was hearty and not too greasy. Overall, a terrific special-occasion place but too pricey to warrant coming back often. I'd describe the atmosphere as "Casual Suave," and it worked well for the occasion. The bill came out to about $50/person without drinks or appertizers. Pros: Excellent Steak Cons: Pricey Meal, Valet Parking $7 more

Overrated fancy steak restaurant 9/14/2006

We had reservations 2 weeks in advance and arrived on time. We waited an 1 1/2 to be seated in a cramped table. The service was slow and poor. The steak was not prepared to order and neither the wait staff or manager were very apologetic. We had visited the sister retaurant in Scottsdale called "City Hall" and the "Mastros" there as well. The service and food there was unbelievable... we have such a great time in Scottsdale that we went back three times during our one week stay. The Beverly Hills Mastros is nothing but a snob house for people with money to burn and no taste. If you are stuck in LA and looking for a good steakhouse then look elsewhere. The best thing about our visit was the Grey Goose Martini - straight up! We are now going to try "Porterhouse Bistro"... review coming soon. Pros: Great Martini Cons: Poor service, busy wait staff and poor kitchen service more

Bone-In Filet. Nothing else! 9/7/2006

Order the Bone-In Filet. Nothing else! If you are a true carnivore, that is the ONLY item you want to order. Hands down! There are 2 sections, upstairs and downstairs (main level). The downstairs was a bit noisy the first time I went, but that could have been mainly due to the large party in the room as well. I hear it is typically the quieter area. Upstairs is nice. A Frank Sinatra-esque vibe to it, complete w/ a nice bar and a band/piano area. Reservations are DEFINITELY recommended. It is a great place to wine & dine. Pros: Steak Cons: Parking. more
