Incredible 2/24/2006

Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in LA. Mastros has some of the best steak I've ever had in my life (try the bone in filet- not on the menu but amazingly good), and all the sides I've tried have been to die for. I'm also very discriminating when it comes to my alcohol and my expectations were met with the Mastros Martini which has a small piece of dry ice at the bottom of the glass so when they pour your drink into it, it bubbles and steams (but stays very cold). That my friends, is one awesome martini. Aside from the food the waiters are all very attentive, but not so much to be annoying, and the ambience is elegant and cozy at the same time. I l.o.v.e. it. While we were seated fairly rapidly, we had 9:oo on Friday night (I think we were seated at 9:20), the problem was that we did not receive our food for over 1 hour after we ordered. UNBELIEVABLE! I ordered the steamed asparagus which was very stringy, not tender. And the macaroni & cheese was horrible. They claim it's made with gorgonzola cheese, but it had NO flavor whatsoever. For the prices they charge, they'd better step up their service and quality. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying top dollar for great food, but it had better be great. This was not even decent. I never thought I could fall in Love at a restaurant until I had a BELLINI MARTINI. Not often in Los Angeles do you find a restaurant where the manager knows your name and the staff knows your favorite dishes. Bartenders can create unique cocktails with a classic touch. My first love was Mastro's in Beverly Hills with its warm ambiance, amazingly friendly staff who always make you feel like a star, exquisite cusine and fabulous drinks... by none other than the top shelf bartenders. I thought I was dreaming when I saw the Mastro's Ocean Club open up down the street from me in Newport Coast. Although a completely different look and feel, the management still matches that of Beverly Hills with it's high standards in staff, cuisine and "spirits". You know what they say though, my first love cannot be forgotten or surpassed!! more

Visited Mastro's a total of 3 times now it's always consistent; I can sum w/1 word--WOW! The sauteed scallop appetizer is to die-for (if you love garlic, you have to order this), and Oysters Rockefeller is decadent. Both are good to share w/a couple of people. The bread basket they offer is out of this world! I especially love their soft pretzel bread roll and garlic toast. For dinner, I've only had the double-cut pork chop and can't seem to veer away from it. It is so tender, juicy and very hearty! The best sides are of course the creamed spinach, Mastro's mashed potatoes and/or Lobster mashed potatoes. You will not be disappointed as this place is worth every dime! The service is also impeccable--they always make you feel like a star! The only negative is everyone's so tightly packed in that it's hard to get privacy or move about. Every visit to this steak house is a new experience the tables hug the walls and make it easy to strike up a conversation with the people around you. What a wonderful experience to be treated so well...every guest is important! Even if you are a particular eater, they are so accomodating to your needs. The food is delicious & the servers very attentive. If you have to wait for a table, it's well worth the wait! The ambience is high energy with an exclusive supper club feel. Whenever I want to impress friends from out of town, my first choice for a restaurant is Mastro's Steakhouse! Pros: music, exclusive feel, consistency more

Well, I have finally found the BEST steak I have ever had. A friend recommended Mastro's for a first date and let me tell you we had a blast. We arrived and started with a couple of cantalope martini's at the upstairs bar. Once we were seated, the server arrived and informed us of the evenings specials and suggested wine. I have to say the food and service were impecible. We finished an incredible first date with a choclate sin cake. I can't wait to rertun, thank you Mastro's! Pros: SERVICE, FOOD, MUSIC more

My finace had made a reservation for 8:15, we arrived at 8:10, it was packed (Wed. night) the host told us it would be about 30-40min (yes, that's with a reservation) An hour later we still had not been seated. I complained to the host and he seated us about 15min later. I must say that our waiter was excellent & the food was great, but it did not make up for the long wait. A place this expensive should have things running a lot better than they were. Pros: Great food Cons: Un-organized, Long Wait, Expensive!! more

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.... 12/9/2005

So its the day before my 10th anniversary and I have forgotten to make reservations for my wife and I to celebrate. My friend reccomended Mastro's Steakhouse in Beverly Hills so I called and made reservations. Upon arrival I was greeted by an enthusiastic staff at the front door. The server was professional and informative of the evenings specials and displayed great passion for her job. We took her advice and ordered the 18oz Bone in Filet, lobster mash potatoes, and Black Truffle Crab Gnocchi. We were greeted by a manager that showed great concern of our dining experience and stopped by our table twice! I have to tell you this was the best dining experience we have ever had. The staff, the food and ambiance was impecible. I will recommend Mastro's to all my friends and look forward to our next visit. Pros: great food, great service, professionalism more

A Brahmin Repents 12/8/2005

A New Yorker who travels, I've had the experience of eating steak in all four corners of the US. I've loved steaks in NYC, Boston, Vegas, Chicago, D.C., Texas, and even Minnesota. Having lived in LA for 6 years, two things were missing: great pizza and great steakhouses... now only 1 is missing. Mastro rocks. Go upstairs and kick it hard, old school, and bloody!
