good food-service needs help 7/19/2011

After hearing about this restaurant from friends who go often we tried it. We made a reservation a day ahead knowing it may be busy on a Sunday evening. The four of us arrived on time and told the owner that we had a reservation. She looked at the book and said ""I don't see your name"", rudely. Long story short she sat us down at the only open table and was a bit rude. She didn't appologize to us and made us all feel uncomfortable. The manacotti and calamari were very good as was the cheesecake. We were not impressed with the service but will give it another try. more

Really enjoy this place 10/19/2008

Pepe the owner does a great job running this family owned italian place. My fiance and i visit about once every 2 weeks and really enjoy everything from the food to the atmosphere.\r \r The servers, especially Arturo, are very soft spoken and friendly. \r \r The food is awesome. We have had many different appetizers, entrees and desserts, and we have NEVER been disappointed. \r \r The Filet Al Pepe is my personal favorite. The homemade veggie soup is too die for. And, the Calamari, Caprese, and Carpaccio are second to none.\r \r We will be long time customers for sure Pros: Food, service, family owned feel Cons: Hidden more

Great Food, Service and Prices 8/1/2008

I went here with some co-workers and was extremely impressed. We were basically waited on hand-and-foot and the food was delicious. We had the Ahi Carpaccio (which the server sliced up and served to everyone individually), the salad with the best bleu cheese dressing I've ever had (and I've had a lot of bleu cheese dressings in my day) and the halibut special with pesto rotini. The wine selection was also great and they serve a complimentary basket of cheese garlic bread. It's a little hard to find but totally worth it. Pros: Excellent Food Cons: Hard to Find more

Regulars rejoice! Newbies, you'll be snubbed! 4/26/2008

The food is ok, but the service isn't. Regular customers are fussed over, newbies are just tolerated. I don't know what makes this place receive such a favorable rating from Frommers. This small, dimly lit resturant is very old Orange County. Skip this one and dine elsewhere. Pros: Good blue cheese salad dressing. Cons: Service more

Nice place to take friends. 10/23/2007

I like this place. First, because it is not a chain, the managment/owners care about you a little and will make adjustments. The food is pretty good and was plentiful. I had the stuffed shells and fried mozerrella which were what I expected. The place was quite so you could hang out with your friends and also was not so busy that you felt like you had to leave which the case with most places in America. I would definitely go there again. If you have to meet up there and don't know where it is - map it first or preferably use GPS because it is easy to miss. Pros: Great food. Nice Atmosphere Cons: Not for people who want to meet people. Hard to find. more

Very overrated 7/21/2007

After reading about Marscapone's in the Zagat guide, my wife and I were anticipating a wonderful meal. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, the first thing we noted was the very limited number of cars parked outside. Once inside, we also observed a small number of diners in the restaurant, which we thought unusual for 8 PM on a Saturday evening.\r \r We an appetizer of mozarella w/ marinara sauce. Both of us agreed that the cheese was bland, and the sauce was only mediocre. Two of our children who were with us also did not enjoy the appetizer. The garlic bread that was put on the table was also rather bland and we all took one taste of it and ate no more. The salad that came with the entree was not bad, but was in no way memorable. We each ordered different dishes (lasagna, fettuccini marscapone, chicken marsala, and fettuccini marscapone with pesto ) The lasagna was awful, and 3 of us tasted it and agreed. The chicken marsala was mediocre, with the marsala sauce not having the slightest sweetness to it. The two fettuccini dishes were not as bad, but neither of them could be considered good. The pasta was not al-dente. Although we heard that the desserts were outstanding, none of us had the slightest interest in prolonging such a substandard dinner. To say the least, each of us was highly disappointed in out meal, especially after having such high expectations from the Zagat review. We had just eaten at IL Sol in West Hollywood the night before, and the food could not have been better. Given that experience, it made Marscapones that much less memorable.\r \r My wife and myself live in Maryland and were visiting California on vacation. We dine at Italian restaurants in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City frequently, and consider ourselves to have very good taste (and high standards) when it comes to Italian food. This restaurant simply was very overrated based upon our selections. Pros: good place to go if you don't want to be recognized Cons: food was bland and unappetizing more
