Painful Experience - WIll Never Return 8/25/2010

I've been to Lake Compounce a number of times, but this last time (July 18, 2010) was the worst. I will never return. They over-sell the park beyond capacity. I used a stop-watch to determine that we stood in line for Mammoth Falls for 52 minutes. This is a 30 second ride, so I feel like an idiot. When I visit Disney World I never stand in line for more than 15 minutes for world class attractions! We spent nearly 30 ON the Ferris Wheel due to inefficient loading. Any reasonable person spending 5 minutes watching the loading operations of any ride at Lake Compounce can find a myriad of ways to make the process more efficient. Why can't they simply RECORD the attendant instructions as an MP3 and play it continuously over a loud speaker? I swear, it would take 2 hours to set that up and be done with it. Instead, we have to wait for the poor attendant to stop and give the recitation for every single group of passengers boarding the attraction. This is the most obvious, simple and cost-effective way to increase ride capacity and guest enjoyment. Like I said, they over-sell the park so there is never enough seating capacity. Water park patrons spill out into the amusement park and take over benches with towels and beach supplies. Eating a meal at a table with your family is incredibly difficult and stressful due to the lack of tables and the requirement engage in table-wars. We were lucky enough to secure 3/4 of a table in direct sunlight to have our lunch. What a nice way to enjoy our $22 16-inch pizza. Did I mention that NO OUTSIDE FOOD is allowed in the park? You will be turned away at the gate if you bring in a sandwich. When you approach the gate in the morning, throngs of people will be marching towards the main gate. There will also be a small, single file line of grumbling dads holding bags of food marching back to the parking lot. Nothing says "WELCOME GUEST" more than being sent marching like a school child back to your car with your healthy lunch of sandwiches and salad. more

great place for summer fun 5/8/2006

Lake Compounce is a great place to get some summer funtime in with the family. Even if you don't like amusement park rides, you can have a good time just hanging out at the beach, pools and sprinklers. The park is not too massively gig, yet large enough to spend the day without getting bored. we usually visit at least one time per summer. I recommend renting a locker for your bags and clothes if you plan on spending lots of time in the water. more

Family Fun! 11/14/2005

Lake Compounce is truly a family friendly place. The prices are very reasonable, there are no terrible lines and everyone who works there is pleasant. It's refreshing vs. the huge theme parks across the country! The skyride is so nice. You can see all of Bristol on the ride.My husband and kids had a blast.Go after 5 it's cheaper and you still have time to see and do what you want. The Haunted maze is great fun too ,near halloween. more

AMERICAS FIRST FAMILY FUN PARK 9/5/2005

YES THIS IS AMERICAS 1ST FAMILY FUN PARK. THEY HAVE REALLY GROWN OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS SO IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN HERE RECENTLY YOU SHOULD GO. THEY HAVE A LOT OF RIDES FOR LITTLE ONES & US OLDER ONES TOO. LINES MOVE PRETTY QUICKLY. THERE ARE WATER RIDES AND A WADING POOL. FOOD VENDORS ARE VERY GOOD. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE FRIED OREOS AND THEIR FRIES ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. TICKETS CAN BE A LITTLE EXPENSIVE (ASK ABOUT AAA DISCOUNT IF YOU ARE A MEMBER) BUT UNLIMITED PEPSI PRODUCTS ARE OFFERED FOR FREE. THERE ARE LOCKERS AVAILABLE FOR SMALL RENTAL FEE. AMPLE PARKING. more

Fun! 8/20/2005

Much larger than Quassy, Lake Compounce has been built up in the past decade or so to be a truly formidable amusement park. It favors well against Six Flags up in Agwam, MA. Boulder Dash is the best wooden roller coaster in the world according to some magazine and the water park here is huge and basically brand new. Compounce isn’t cheap but it’s fun for the family and it’s very picturesque with the lake and all. more

Lake Compounce 8/19/2005

Lake Compounce is a great amusement park for the entire family. Not only do they give you free refills of pepsi all day, but, its also a fun water park. You dont have to pay extra to go the lake, only if you want to ride the boats it costs extra. Its clean and is perfect for a day out with the family. more

A fun place to go for the summer. 8/17/2005

Lake compounce is great because it is so close and convenient to get to. The lines are also not as bad as larger amusement parks. The rides are pretty decent and have all the standards plus a nice wooden roller coaster and some steel ones. There is also a nice water park to visit. Oh yea and free soda all day. So the price is better, the rides aren't as flashy but it's a nice place to go and hang out with your friends for a day when the weather is nice. more

Great park for families 8/16/2005

We recently visited Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol, CT. There is something there for every age group! We went with a group of adults and paid $32 per person. There is a kiddieland there with lots of rides for the little ones. Our favorite ride was the boulder-dash, a rollercoaster built into the mountain side. I would recommend this park. more

Lake Compounce Amusement Park 8/15/2005

I used to love going to this amusement park as a kid, although Riverside was always my first choice, as it was bigger and the rides were scarier. However, I am a total sucker for water parks, and I now love Lake Compounce the best for this very reason. A great family destination! more

A Unique and Family Oriented Destination 8/15/2005

Lake Compunce is a very well-rounded park, with a healthy variety of thrill and family rides. The park has three roller coasters: Wildcat, a smaller wooden coaster; Boulderdash, a faster wooden coaster with speeds up to 65 mph; and Zoomerang, an inverted steel coaster which travels the track both forwards and backwards. There is also Downtime, a 185 foot free-fall ride. The park's food and drink options are outstanding. Free soft drinks are included with the admissions ticket. Park guests can fill 12 ounce cups with Pepsi brand soft drinks at many places throughout Lake Compounce. The dining options range from the excellent "Harborside Pizza" to the well-rounded "Croc Pot", a cafeteria which offers a wide variety of foods at expensive but not unreasonable prices. The downfall of Lake Compounce is its crowded and claustrophobic Waterpark. In fact, the small portion of the park was so crammed with people, I had no desire to even enter Splash Harbor. Overall, however, Lake Compounce is an excellent local destination and can provide a day of wholesome fun. more

Great park for kids 8/13/2005

You won't find Disneyworld type rides here, but you will find a lot of rollercoasters and rides for enthusiasts alike. Formerly owned by Hershey, this is CT's oldest theme park and the oldest running theme park in the country. They really do a good job around Halloween when they decorate the park into a haunted attraction including a haunted house and haunted rides. The park is extremely busy during the summertime, so expect long line wait times. Parking is impressive and generally shouldn't be a problem. Parking is not included in the price of admission. Park hours are very decent and the variety of rides is very good. more

Family Fun Park 8/13/2005

I love this park!! We go as a couple or bring the kids. When the kids go they have tons of kid rides and family rides. We love to go as a couple, relax in the lazy river, go down the slides and then get wild on boulder dash. That rollercoaster is amazing, its so fast you think you can't possibly stay in your seat. Its something we ride over and over, they have fun for all ages! This is our favorite place to go during the summer! more

Fun, Water, Rides & Sun 8/8/2005

Lake Compounce is a great family fun park. There are ride, midway style games, attractions and shows not to mention a water park. If you can do it get the seasons pass:for the price of two admissions you can get a season pass (and then buy the parking book and you save 1/2 price on 10 parking admissions). Lake Compounce is local, clean, and the lines tend to be smaller. If you have small children Lake Compounce is going to be far easier to please. more

Family Fun for everyone 8/5/2005

Lake Compounce is a great family fun park. There are plenty of rides and attractions (including a water park) and the price is great. For the price of two admissions you can get a season pass. Some people think it is expensive and would rather pay more to go to somewhere like Six Flags where you get far more rides... but Lake Compounce is local, clean, and the lines are far less. So if you have a group of little kids with you, Lake Compounce is going to be far easier to please everyone. more

A Fun Way To Spend A Summer Day! 7/15/2005

Lake Compounce has everything that a guest could ever ask for. A water park for hot days, and river access to boats and tubing, great roller coasters, calm rides, tons of games, a train for transportation, and an incredible sky lift ride. I would definitely recommend a visitor to go on the sky lift ride. It is an old ski slope they turned into just a calm ride up into the mountainside, and back down. The view is incredible, and fun to get 4 people in that chair. A definite recommend for a thrill seeker like me! more
