Fresh Californian Experience 12/17/2009

This steakhouse has views and food to pine over. You can not only enjoy the sumptuous offerings but you can also feel good about your choice. This sets a new, fresh standard for LA dining! Pros: Fresh herbs, sustainable outlook on cuisine more

Just Ok 1/11/2009

Went to Jer-Ne today for their buffet brunch that is supposed to be so excellent. After we were seated, we were told it is no longer. They only serve brunch off of the menu and have a dessert ""buffet"" if you order the 3 course brunch. Pros: Ambiance, outside dining, quiet Cons: Terrible service, mediocre food more

sustainable, five star, local, fine dining, patio seating, valet, celebrity chef, trendy bar, Los Angeles, Ritz-Carlton 6/22/2008

I?m not sure how often the information on this site is updated so I decided to weigh-in on Jer-ne restaurant located at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey. According to this site and several others I?ve investigated, Jer-ne serves a rather confusing fusion of East Asian cuisines. Nothing could further from what I saw on the menu last week. Pros: beautiful water front location, five star, five diamond, cuisine, service, lunch Cons: valet only more

Great outdoors... 1/20/2007

This place is all about the ambiance and the location! I've never been disappointed with a single lunch on the outdoor terrace and dinner is what you'd expect form a restaurant located in the Ritz Carlton (although I favor the lunches over the dinners). Check to make sure that the ""sukiyaki"" you order is one that they'll cook in the kitchen and not one you'll have to cook at the table yourself if you're starving. :) Pros: Great terrace Cons: Ritz prices more

Nice Atmosphere 11/20/2006

Very cozy. Great drinks. Great wine list, especially by the glass. Friendly staff. Not stuffy as you would expect at a Ritz. more

Food was AMAZING...(could be cheaper) 8/4/2006

Had the bento box and fish of the day...was def. satisfied! Not snooty like you'd expect a Ritz restaurant to be... Pros: Great food, nice staff Cons: Expensive more

What An Expensive Disappointment . . . 6/6/2006

I had dinner there last Friday night- June 2006 and was looking forward to an interesting meal - based on the LA Times review. Three of us got the 5 course tasting menu- with wine pairings ($95). We knew it was a bad call when the bread was stale and tastless. The best part of the meal was the cheese course- the one thing the chef couldn't mess up. The ""heirloom"" tomatoes (my favorite) had zero flavor, the lamb was bland and chewy, the salmon dry. We spent $385 for the 3 of us for food I couldn't even finish. The service was good- but the poor waitress begged me to agree with her that the food was ""just so yummy"" - I couldnt even fake it. for the money, buy a nice bottle of wine, get some In-N-Out and eat them on the sand instead. Pros: nice decor, view of the boats, service Cons: expensive, tasteless food, food more

Top Sunday Brunch EVER! 11/14/2005

I sent my parents together as an anniversary present. They took very good care of my parents, greeting them by name, putting them at a corner table, and presenting them with a elegantly decorated truffles tray at the end. The bufffet is phenomenal. Nothing is fatty or gooey or sitting in buttery sauce getting cold. The presentation and layout is gourmet. Service is attentive and friendly and helpful and patient. The ambiance was vaguely Asian, but not funky or wierd. modern elegance. You could choose the beautiful patio outdoors overlooking the sparkling marina, but indoors there is still a view through the large windows, and the classical guitar in the background. Even if you sit outside, there is a glass balcony, so you don't get windblown. Very pricey, but on a special occasion, I would not hesitate to recommend this dining experience to anyone who appreciates fine food and elegance. Pros: relaxed, quality Cons: expensive more

Try the filet!! 5/15/2005

I was forced into going to Jer-ne with my wife for a work dinner. We had a set menu and I chose the filet mignon. It was absolutely the BEST I have ever had! I would go back just to have it again. The service was also fantastic so I would recommend it for large parties too. Pros: food, service, on the water more

Jer Ne to NOWHERE ?????? 2/17/2005

I too had a similar experience to the Valentines Day Massacre ! 2/14/2005.. I was really disappointed with the food at what one of L.A's best ?? The food pairings for their Valentines meal can best best described as ""trying to hard"" with flavors competing for each other rather than being complementary. Their dessert bar was highly disappointing. Out of the 5 course meal that I had, there was not one dish that one can rave about plus to add insult to injury the menu was exorbitantly overpriced ! At best, it was a very disappointing Jer-Ne to Nowhere ! Pros: Ambience Cons: Food, Food, Food more

Valentine's Day Massacre 2/15/2005

Without sounding bitter, let me say that Valentine's dinner at Jer-Ne was about the worst meal I have ever had. The food combinations were thoughtless. It's as if the chef were forcing the issue. For what you had to pay for a Prix-Fixe menu, you would expect something with flavors that melded well together, but instead got a hodge podge of food groups that did not belong! If it were not for the ambiance and locale, this place would be like most restaurant's in L.A.... a thing of the past. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. Pros: locale, ambiance Cons: food, food, food more

Fusion Cuisine Gone Wrong! 8/1/2004

It's hard to believe that this restaurant was named ""Best Fusion Cuisine"" by Los Angeles Magazine. I don't know what the heck the chef was doing back there, but dish after dish, I was repeatedly disappointed. Everything we tried was ""OFF"", either too salty, too bland or the combination of flavors did not blend well. The Bento Box appetizer was overpriced and did not have one thing that was pleasing to anyone's palate. There seems to be a lot of Japanese influence in Chef Thompson's cooking, but the true essense of Japanese cuisine is not imitated well at all. And the service... we'd have to wait at least 15 minutes before we'd see our waitress again... and it wasn't because they were busy either. There were only 2 other parties besides us! The only thing going for this place is the decor and the waterfront Ritz location... BLEGH!! Pros: Waterfront View Cons: , Service, Price more

A lovely Jer-ne... 4/30/2003

Jer-ne was a very pleasant dining experience. We were treated to attentive service and exceptional food in a beautiful setting. I would definitely recommend Jer-ne to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion. The wait staff was friendly and made us feel special during our own special occasion. Have the Grilled Lamb Chops, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely return to Jer-ne for more! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service, Romantic Cons: Pricey more

Pricey Brunch 2/18/2003

We went last Sunday, supposedly for a la carte but got lured by the brunch buffet. The food was excellent, with all the seafood (salmon, lobsters, shrimp, other fish) being fresh and flavorful. The only thing was, I didn't expect it to be $60/pax. For Sunday brunch, that was a bit too much (but what should I have expected, it was the Ritz). The place was gorgeous though, with a nice view of the marina. Parking is easy, with the $6.50 valet or the $2 self-park across the street. Pros: Romantic, Good Food, Nice Hotel Cons: Expensive more

Wonderful (and Improving) 1/1/2003

I don't write reviews frequently, but I felt compelled to add my two cents after reading the recent reviews... The first time I visited the restaurant was just after its opening, and I felt that although the food and presentation were definitely above par, the service was, although not poor, definitely not up to what I would expect from the Ritz-Carlton. I did appreciate the risk in going away from the staid fine dining old-school template, and having gone there again just two weeks ago, must say that it has been fully realized. We enjoyed the tasting menu, wonderful dishes showcasing fresh ingredients and thoughtful wine pairings. The dishes were not overwhelmed in sauces, and the subtle delicate flavors bringing to mind Thomas Kellers methods. The service I'm glad to report was unobtrusive and professional while remaining friendly. I will definitely return, as will the rest of our party... more

Don't expect great service! 10/23/2002

When we made our reservation we had asked for a romantic table which we received. But we had to bus our own table, our drinks were never filled, we were not offered the usual orange juice or champagne, the service was TERRIBLE!!! more

jer-ne 8/21/2002

a very creative ever changing menu, lots of fish , fun desserts , great waitstaff, fun, fun, fun, vegetarian dips with unique indian breads, interesting wines and great veiw of the marina . a hidden gem . keep an open mind. one of the best newer restaurants in L.A. It will blow you away. Pros: food very creative, patio, fun Cons: hotel more

outstanding 8/2/2002

Great food, Troy Thompson is one of the most creative chefs I have met. Not to mention a great guy. The service needs some help, but the food and details overcome this. If you love food definately drive down to Marina Del Rey. If you are a LA snob who has to have sauce on the side and likes to order off the menu, stay home. Pros: Food, cocktail list, deck Cons: service, lounge, service more
