St. Louis Cajun that's got a kick! 8/17/2007

Reasonably priced and leaning very authentic this newer restaurant serves up well spiced dishes at mostly moderate prices. Stay away from the steaks (which we did not try) and entree prices are reasonable. Portions are generous. BBQ Shrimp appetizer is excellent and highly recommended. It's called BBQ but it's really shrimp in a cajun butter sauce, 7 decent size ones for $10. Other appetizers are less expensive. We had the stuffed chicken breast (with a tasso and andouille stuffing) finished with an andouille cream sauce and the pulled pork. The chicken was fabulous with just right kick to not be overpowering. The pork was a huge portion served open face and was excellent. It was spicy sweet and smokey. Each dish allowed two sides. We chose Mac/Cheese, Green Beans, Red Beans and Rice, and BBQ Spaghetti, plus an extra side of Cole Slaw. RB and Rice was superb and had quite the kick. Mac/Cheese was excellent and had a crusty baked top - yum. BBQ Spaghetti was a surprise, good that is. It's as it sounds. Its like they took the pulled pork and used that and BBQ sauce as the spaghetti meat/sauce. It worked well. We didn't care for the green beans. They were a bit too vinergary for us. The cole slaw was creamy and delicious. We were told to try the cream corn souffle the next time by our waitress and we will. The atmosphere on a thurs night was loud and that was without entertainment going. It's not a place to be romantic, but it seems to be a place to have fun and enjoy very good cajun cooking. This one is a keeper though you might need ear plugs on a weekend with a band going! Pros: Excellent Cajun style cooking, reasonable prices, Stella on draft! Cons: A bit loud even on a not as busy of night. more
