I have been to both Hush Puppies on numerous accounts. I had the worst experience at the W. Charleston location on 4-14-08. The hostess (appeared to be of Caribbean descent) was very territorial of her podium area. She very loudly asked me to not stand near it and to move away! It's not so much that she didn't want me standing there, it was more so in her delivery. Rude.
I was told I would be seated in 20-25 minutes. I was seated in 35, not a big deal, but what bothered me was that she had seated several other parties from 2-5 person groups. Finally right when I walked up to her to inquire, she yelled my name out. She simply was unfriendly, crude and rude.
Once seated it took a while for the crab to come out, keep in mind Mondays is all you can eat crab, so I'm guessing they are constantly boiling the stuff. Our food server was nice. She was the only part of the experience that was okay.
The crab was the worst I had ever had. It was over-cooked because it was very hard to remove from the shell. Normally once you open it you can remove the meat in its entirety. I had to fight to pull out the meat this time.
Overall as the title reads, the worst experience. I won't encourage anyone to go the W. Charleston location due to the very rude hostess. I surely won't go to that location again. Maybe in a good year I might head back to the Nellis location. The food is comfort food, and it has been that for quite some time. Needless to say it left a bad taste in my mouth this time and nothing was comforting.
I normally speak to a manager if I feel I'm being poorly treated, however I felt it would fall on deaf ears. I don't know why I just did, so I didn't even make an attempt to speak with him or her.
It would be nice if Hush Puppies had a "comment" section on they're website but they don't. HP, if you're reading this you might want to look into that.
Next time I'll just go to Costco and get some Alaskan King crab and enjoy in my home.
Pros: Good when they're on their game
Cons: Rude hostess and poorly cooked crab
