Editorial review from Citysearch 7/26/2012

I would NOT, absolutely NOT recommend Hala for anything. We used to get all our shopping there until we advised them that there are a few things in the refrigerator that were past their expiration date and he told us it was ok, he'll just give them to the restaurant to use....Not sure if he was joking or not but seriously?!! more

Hala`s Is anything but Rude. 10/15/2011

To say Hala`s ""Sucks"" , Is a matter of Oponion. If you dont like the Food , Service or Culture then I would suggest that you try KFC , Arbys, Wendys. I have been a customer of the Cafe` since Hala`s Father Opened the Place. As an American , I some times have had a hard time expressing what I was looking for or what I wanted to know about a certain product. I have never felt that the staff was being Rude . Miss communication . Yes . Hala`s will go out of the way to make any one happy. Dont let one bad visit keep you from enjoying the products that they offer. They really are Nice People who have a lot of Foods and Hooka items that you might just enjoy if you give them a second chance. Or try Karmas right up University Beach Blvd side on the right that is Awesome. more

best food better prices 8/1/2010

i have been going there since well early 90's and still can't get enough. even now we go at least 2 or 3 times a week. it is like extended family. food is always hot, tasty, and affordable. plus they have a store that is connected in the even you are feeling you want to try to make something yourself they will talk you through it. i sware by it we feel better for eating there instead of fast food, stake houses, and pancake joints. Pros: family owned, been around forever, home cooked recipies Cons: none come to mine more

HALA'S HAS THE BEST FOOD IN JAX 10/9/2008

Everyone who gave this place a bad review must be crazy! Hala's has got the best food by far in Jacksonville. Everything is FRESH and VERY flavorful. The wait staff treats you like a friend and once you are a regular you are a part of the family. I would recommend eating at Hala Cafe to anyone. Other middle eastern restaurants in Jacksonville do not offer the same quality of food at ALL. Others offer dry and bland food where as Hala's offers everything you would want in a meal. I'm upset that there isn't a 1,000,000 star rating! Pros: EVERYTHING. The food, wait staff, location, prices and the grocery store. Cons: BIG lunch crowd. Parking during lunch time could be easier. worth it. more

Try CASBAH or some other place instead 8/5/2008

Hala cracks me up with all the fake raves because of SO many negative reviews. This place is just no good. avoid at all costs. Cons: Everything - especially the rude staff more

Great MIddle Eastern food! Great Service! 8/2/2008

I personally love Hala's food and wait staff. Everythings always really good & the staff (including Joe) is always really nice. BTW, there is no Hala on Baymeadows, there hasnt been for many years... shows how much the person who left the bad review before me knows... not very credible, huh... I would definitely recommend Hala Cafe! Pros: Great food, affordable price Cons: fighting the lunch crowd more

THIS PLACE S U C K S!!!!!!!!!!!! 7/31/2008

Bad, RUDE wait staff. TERRIBLE manager ""joe"". These people just get mad when you complain instead of CORRECTING the problem - like the RUDE wait staff. The baklava was dry as a bone. Pros: Crazy Joe didn't assault me? Cons: EVERYTHING more

Best Middle Eastern Food Around!! 1/26/2008

I really enjoy the food and the atmosphere at Hala Cafe, I stop by anytime im around the area. For the couple of bad reviews ive read about this place and the management, I have to agree with the last reviewer, its got to be a problem with the customer!! The staff and manager, 'Joe', couldnt be nicer or more professional, Ive never had a problem with them. But I guess you cant please everybody... Stop by and judge for yourself, its a great spot for lunch, affordable with a great selection and a friendly staff!! more

Great Food & Great people! Joe is the Best!! 1/19/2008

I personally love Hala Cafe! The food is excellent, and the wait staff is friendly. Im not sure how the manager, Joe, got such bad reviews from users on this site, he is such a nice person and has always been extremely friendly and helpful to me and my family. It doesnt get any better than him, or hala overall!! Would definitely recommend!! Pros: Great Food, friendly staff!! Cons: Always busy at lunch time, must tell you something!! more

Great Arabic food 12/23/2007

The food is great. The hummus and cheeses are fresh and the kebabs are tender. This place also has a great grocery store connected to it that sells hookas! Pros: great lunch buffet more

Not off to a good start - Phones need to be fixed 7/31/2007

I just tried calling 10 times to get a menu faxed and the line was incredibly unclear so the woman asked me to call back. Then I just kept getting hung up on as soon as they answered. They wouldn't even say hello. Then 3 other times I got a fax line in my ear. This place definitely doesn't know the meaning of customer service nor do they seem to care. Not so impressed........... Cons: Can't get through on the phone to even try their food. Just hung up on continuously. more

OK food. Terrible wait staff 11/2/2006

What's with the wait staff and manager at Hala? I'll never eat there again! They don't seem to understand the fact we are CUSTOMERS? ""Joe"" almost took a swing at me that last time I went in. He is lucky I didn't call the police. Pros: None. Cons: Everything. more

the best middle eastern food from here to dearborn 10/29/2006

I would like to thank Hala's for hiring ""American"" waitresses, i dont think American waitresses are rude, maybe its the customer. Hala's has been a part of Jacksonville's community for over thirty years so someone is doing something right. Pros: great food Cons: the crowd at lunch time. i guess its the place to be more

Official ""Worst Mid Eastern Restaurant in Jax"". Horrible service. ""Joe"" is a terrible manager. 9/14/2006

This place is now hiring the worst ""American"" waitresses I've seen in my life. Rude and basically treat you like dirt. If you complain, ""Joe"" will rudely tell you to pay your tab and kick you out! Then, he's got the nerve to tell you ya can't come back! This place is just wretched. I intend to complain about it on as many sites as I can find. The owner's name is ""assad"" and he doesn't seem to give a !@#@$ about what the customers think either. I wish I had more hands so I could give this place 10 thumbs down! Pros: None at all! Patronize the other mid eastern places in Jax. Cons: Everything. more

Middle Eastern Food is Great! Try it here! 7/25/2006

Hala's is a good find for us in Florida, now that my husband and I live here in Jacksonville. We're from the Detroit region, where middle-eastern food is plentiful and good. The first time we went to Hala's, we ordered from the menu, because we hesitate to eat from buffet tables: we're watching our weight! That visit, we noticed that the choices at the buffet table were of a reasonable number, so tonight when we visited, we ordered the buffet. Pros: Good example of middle-eastern cuisine. Cons: It's not cheap, so didn't know how to rate the "cheap eats" category. more

Very unsatisfied 4/24/2006

Just a warning to anyone thinking of dining at this eatery. I will not say the food was horrible, but the sevice and attitude of staff is. My family and I went in for diner, my father and I ordered the buffett while his wife orderd a entree. My father and I went the buffett and while waiting the 30 minutes for my fathers wifes entree she had a piece of chicken from his plate. This to our surprise prompted a bill that included two charges for my fathers wife including a enteree and a full price buffett...... for one piece of chicken! When we questioned this charge the girl POINTED in our faces and pretty much called us liars when we stated we were being treated unfairly. Well I do'nt know about you but there are far to many places to eat in Jacksonville to be treated so horribly. more

Hidden Wonder 11/13/2002

The first look at the buffet left us wondering if there was enough to satisfy us. But we left wondering haw we could eat ""just one more"" stuffed grape leaf. I'm not usually one for salads, but this salad bar left no room for the hot table. Stuffed grape leaves, humus, tabuli and much more were all excellent. The hot table offered lamb, stuffed squash and stuffed cabbage to die for. Don't forget to visit the adjacent store to pick up desert to go ( you won't have room right away). While in the store, take a peak at the variety of items available and take a chance on some things you maight not have tried. Over all, thanks to my sister for finding another unique place! Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, Buffet more
